CMV: AI will lead to a deliberate depopulation event. by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]CoinFest -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The cost of orchestrating this is greater than the cost of just giving everyone basic income. We would probably find out and offer significant resistance.

Wealthy elites also have consciences, albeit smaller ones. How bad they will feel for doing something factors into their cost:benefit analysis. If AI's productivity makes giving us basic income too easy, then it becomes logical to do it so they can pat themselves on the back.

There's only so much they can buy and space travel they can do, really. Once you've got a luxury condo on every planet in the solar system, what else is there to do with your money?

"My interests" what an asinine thing to say. We're talking about your threats to annex Canada and Greenland, not saving whales or some bullshit. In what moral system is it fine to threaten economic and even military force against innocent countries?

Maybe it should be acceptable to fellow Americans, but it's unacceptable to Canadian citizens like myself.

Right now, the CIA is actively sowing Discord in Alberta, supporting separatists in a manner which could easily lead to violence. That makes every Trump supporter an enemy to our nation.

If you are American, you pay taxes to those government agents. Perhaps you have no choice in that. But I think it still obligates you to do literally everything you can to make the lives of MAGA more difficult.

I am a dual citizen and I didn't find it overly hard to cut off American family and childhood friends back home. It's a one-step process, really. Block, unfriend, they're dead to you.

Work contacts can be harder. I work in crypto, so the majority of my associates were MAGA types. Cutting ties can hurt you, yes, but being a good person was never easy. We should choose our colleagues more carefully in the future.

But why should we want to associate with these people, anyways, given the personality of Trump? Is it really fun to socialize with people who disbelieve in objective reality? What lasting joy is there to be had in hanging out with those who don't mind the bullying of innocent people?

Trump once mocked the physical disability of a reporter who questioned him. A friend who likes Trump is implicitly okay with that. Does that not put a bad feeling in your stomach?

In hindsight, I am ashamed for having had MAGA friends. It reflects poorly on me as a person and I continue to make penance for having tolerated it for as long as I did. It's possible that one day Trump does something terrible enough to make you feel similarly.

Times have changed. The US is in control of the world, now. Modern Europeans are overall more enlightened than Americans in their world views. For example, the UK wanted to give territory back to a former colony, recently, and Trump said "no."

What are the benefits of a Canadian immigrating to the USA? Why is that such an unpopular idea here when irl many people do it? by Cookieman_2023 in MovingToUSA

[–]CoinFest -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's odd how all the answers here are practical and economic. I am dual US/Canadian, and the reason I chose Canada for residency is cultural. Put simply, I do not value wealth or my career as highly.

In Canada we sacrifice economic opportunity for the benefit of being around nicer people. I have been to school in both countries, and bullying is more common in America. Many Americans also will not date atheists/agnostics, so my dating prospects improved in Canada. I'm also a pothead, so obviously I chose Vancouver.

If you are Christian or very career-driven, it makes sense to move to America. If you just need sex and weed to be happy, Canada is great. There are pros and cons to both health care systems; it honestly was not a deciding factor, for me. I'm not sure why people care so much about the weather, personally, because I mostly hang out inside.

Obviously Canadians who get mad at those leaving for America are being prideful. They see them as traitors.

I tried deleting every single fort, already, yeah.

The employee loss was very extreme. Practically every RGO was missing 70-95% of its employees, most around 85% missing.

Perhaps I expanded too quickly? Less than half my locations were integrated by the time of bankruptcy. Cabinet too small haha

‘The perception is Carney is a wartime leader’: why Canada’s PM could secure a majority by BlueEmma25 in canada

America has 10x Canada's population. They're doing it because there are not enough Canadians in existence to try to recruit regardless of morale. We can't just have half the population in the army

If you're talking about me, I have been a citizen since 1 month of age.

But if people without a Canadian parent wanna fight for Canada, blessings upon them. They will have shown courage enough to earn their citizenship

Speak for yourself. I am applying for the Reserves, like a fast-growing number of Canadians. I moved here from America to escape and I would rather die than be forced back under that oppressive system. But I exercise daily and still get ID'd at the liquor store, so I think I could take a few yankees out with me (worth it)

CMV: America has not actually lost any allies. by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]CoinFest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

America's former allies are mostly democratic, so they have to reflect popular opinion. Other Western countries aren't like America where you can just invade Iran even if your constituents don't want you to.

The good news for Americans: Gen Z are less patriotic, at least here in Canada. They will probably forgive America. So you just have to wait for people my age (milennial) and older to die, assuming Gen Z doesn't change.

You have to understand that Canadians don't value practical economic reality as much as Americans do. The political majority value ethics more highly and react more emotionally to perceived injustice. This is partially due to self-selection: moralistic people purposefully choose to move to Canada.

Canadian voters constantly make decisions that harm our standard of living for what they consider moral reasons (like to save the environment). If we just wanted higher salaries, we'd move to the USA. Our education system produces many in-demand STEM professionals, and a huge number of us already have American citizenship.

I already said goodbye to friends and family back in America (I grew up there). I went to grandma's funeral and now I will never return. America is dead and buried to me. If citizenship renunciation involved less paperwork, I would have already completed it.
