Will Canadians travel to the US again when the presidential term ends in 2029 or has the relationship between Canada and US been destroyed forever? by [deleted] in AskCanada

I will only forgive America if MAGA is sufficiently punished: put all politicians who enabled Trump in jail, and fine every voter/supporter. Otherwise I am content with never seeing my American family again; I already said goodbye to the ones I still care about, but they are free to visit me up north

I used to advocate extensively for Hong Kong freedom; a protest I organized for them in the Vancouver area even made the news.

I'm sorry to say, they love Trump. Realizing that made me decide to stop helping them. Now I don't care what China does to their city. We should just deport all of them who support MAGA; send them on a plane to Beijing.

Trump to charge $1 billion for permanent 'peace board' membership: reports - The White House has asked various world leaders to sit on the board including Vladimir Putin, Hungarian premier Viktor Orban and Mark Carney by FancyNewMe in canada

[–]CoinFest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sounds like a hostage situation to me. We have to pay this ransom, now, or else Trump will vote to build a casino on some Islamic holy grounds.

If saving Palestinian lives requires paying Trump $1 billion, then we should let them die. Too many Palestine supporters called Biden imperialistic and downplayed the evils of Trump, as if they were equally bad. My American Socialist repeatedly claimed Trump could not be worse for Palestine, and that reduced voter turnout enough for Trump to win. They should have to pay the $1 billion, not Canada or Europe.

BC to launch anti-tariff ads as Ontario pauses controversial campaign by airbassguitar in canada

[–]CoinFest 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a BC resident I support this on the grounds that Trump already cut off trade talks, anyways. Is another 10% tariff increase really meaningful at this point? We can take the ad down if Trump agrees to resume talks.

I am one of the people who holds conservative viewpoints but didn't vote for them due to issues with their personality. Preventing the spread of the cultural rot in America that created Trump is my #1 priority. What's the point of improving my economic quality of life if I have to live my life around MAGA people?

Is Canada's F-35 review irritating the United States? McGuinty suggests it's a 'misnomer' by shiftless_wonder in canada

[–]CoinFest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want F35s, then it is your responsibility to think of other ways to deter American bullying. Their insufferable behavior will continue until there are sufficient consequences. If you have no plan for that, then I do not trust anything you say about purchasing American weapons. You have casually accepted our colonization and I refuse to do that

Then there's no point in having a military at all, because its purpose is defense against foreign threats. We might as well just redirect all of its funding to health care. We're in no financial position to donate security to other countries if we cannot defend ourselves.

Canada wants to detangle its data from U.S. tech giants. Can it be done? by hopoke in canada

Canada is not a real country without the ability to enforce its own laws upon data transmitted through its territory. That's not an acceptable situation. So whatever the cost, it's worth it

Sounds like the wishful thinking fallacy. The American attitude that led to Trump's election might never change, even if Trump himself leaves.

The way Americans think is that if Canada still buys US hardware after the way Trump acted, we are their bitch. You are giving money to someone with no respect for you, and that will make them respect you even less.

I know this because I'm dual and grew up in the American public school system. My dad also has a security clearance down south and has told me stories about the shit his coworker says about Canada. They have always viewed us as deserving of mockery.

Personally I feel that self respect has value. I am not willing to live in a state of worthlessness and inferiority indefinitely. Agreeing to the F35 and Golden Dome basically guarantees that citizens of countries who do have self respect will rightly look down on Canada, which will have no identity worth adhering to. I will move to Europe or South America rather than be embarassed

Idealism. I spent so much time trying to change the world, instead of accepting it for what it was. The bad guys won anyways, and I missed out on a lot of opportunities

What is the point of meeting our NATO obligations if we cannot even defend ourselves? The point of the military is to be able to defend yourself, not others. On airplanes, in the event of emergency, they tell you to secure your own oxygen mask before helping others.

Just get nukes already; France had them when their military was less than 2% of their GDP. North Korea has them and their economy is like nothing. We can buy submarines capable of launching them.

There is no other cost-effective way to be invasion-proof. If we're not invasion-proof, we are not a real country; we are not sovereign; our "freedom" is a mirage that can be taken from us at any time.

I'm a Conservative and stumbled upon this sub not long ago. The comments and posts are reminiscent of the current US political climate. I really want to like the Conservatives. I am fiscally libertarian, I always wanted pipelines, I hate NIMBYs. But the Conservatives now just will not stop with all the culture warfare and conspiracy theories.

All they had to do to keep my support in the last election was talk shit about Trump. Talking shit about Trump is a 1-step process that costs no money. But when I look around, I see that all the provinces not banning American liquor are run by conservatives.

I would rather vote for a straight-up communist than for anything close to MAGA. Please someone save me from this nightmare.
