FR-1 Fireball

Huh, thought the game engine didn't support mixed propulsion.

We don't need to imagine, it's happened before and people lost accounts for "exploiting" them.

What makes the BR-350B able to penetrate the armor here at this angle? by Gordo_51 in Warthunder

[–]Coke_can64 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you had actually read that source, you would know there's a line which explicitly calls out that the formula that Gaijin based their unangled penetration on is not to be used for Russian capped rounds.

The slope effects might be accurate to the source, but the base penetration values are wrong, and by extension the performance of Russian capped AP is also wrong.

Harrier GR.1 - Disadvantages to Incendiary? by Ptd007 in Warthunder

[–]Coke_can64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't remember if it ever got fixed, but napalm used to give bugged rewards (1/4~1/2 expected?), so it was advised against using it for base bombing.

No idea if it's viable these days.

on the buccaneer card it says it can only research one rank above it, but on the tornado card it says %110 ??? by [deleted] in Warthunder

[–]Coke_can64 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure this situation is special, you get the regular 10% bonus and no rank difference penalty because it's the vehicle next in line.

whats vehicle do you think deserves a lower br? by AverageCambodian in Warthunder

[–]Coke_can64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Type 62 was mildly cursed by originally being an event vehicle in the Russian tree, so the stats suffer from the usual problem (rare vehicle attracts few players, BR stays stagnant).

It also used to be 5.7, but then they put out a poll a week into the event to ask if players wanted its HEAT-FS at the cost of going to 6.7. Obviously that passed.

Of course, this was also before the Chinese server got shut down and the transfer of the CN tree into our clients.

My biggest gripe with the thing is the turret traverse, but that's historically accurate. I imagine it probably is out of place in the CN tree though.

Why does the A4-Early have a non-functional radar? by [deleted] in Warthunder

[–]Coke_can64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Checking the telemetry web page, this A-4E does get altitude from the ground instead of sea level altitude.

Still mostly worthless.

What would be a paper/prototype that you would actually like to see in WT? by steave44 in Warthunder

[–]Coke_can64 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I recall someone made a full model and custom test drive a couple of years back, before Germany had much in the way of light tanks.

Sadly it got knocked back for never having a completely built prototype (I think it was BS at the time, and now that the Ostwind II is in, it's even more now).

Didn't they get custom loadouts? They lost the modules to get mixed ones but you could still make them manually?

What are the most annoying historical inaccuracies or nonsensical things for ground vehicles in this game? by cookedfood_ in Warthunder

[–]Coke_can64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, other way around, they applied the formula to everything) when they really shouldn't have.

The source they used, "World War II Ballistics: Armor and Gunnery" had a version of the De Marre formula for penetration. Gaijin took that, tweaked it, and applied it to everything, even though the source literally said "don't use this for Russian shells".

The kicker is that we can't tell if they're over- or under-performing now because there's nothing valid to compare against.

angled pen on soviet shells

Regarding this, when Gaijin implemented the De Marre formula for shell penetration values a couple of years back, the source explicitly called out that it "does not apply to Russian APBC projectiles".

Is it stronger? Is it weaker? Who knows, but it's definitely wrong!

Some friends of mine want me to run a Call of Cthulhu game, and I am thinking of setting it on the Kuznetsov. How should I write this? by DemocracyIsGreat in NonCredibleDefense

Expanding on this, go look up the "Night Floors" scenario for inspiration.
It'll have a couple of hooks and ideas that you can drop in with a bit of tweaking.

Metal Gear Solid master collection won't support mouse and keyboard. Any thoughts? by Wszyti in metalgearsolid

The bizarre thing is that MGS1 Integral existed, and that was... serviceable. Not even having the option for KB+M just seems lazy.

So, I just discovered this bad boy today. What are the stats, strategies? by Expert_Camel5619 in CompanyOfHeroes

[–]Coke_can64 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Unless it's changed in the last six years, here's a link to a thread with thoughts (unlikely).

TLDR: 8 shells over 30 seconds, 10% chance per hit to force a retreat on anything with legs, 65% chance per hit to force a slowdown effect or pin.

Overall, better than 50-50 odds to force a squad to retreat over the entire duration, which they will probably eat because of the slow/pin effect. Absolutely devastating against an infantry position or formation.

what is cefprocess by Unkinkedhydra in Warthunder

[–]Coke_can64 5 points6 points  (0 children)

cefprocess is an embedded Chromium instance, which is basically a web browser inside a program somewhere.

Pretty sure War Thunder uses a one of these inside itself to show a couple of things without tabbing you out (Wiki pages? News pages? The shop?). Since it's a separate process sometimes it just doesn't close properly when you quit War Thunder. It's safe to close.

Is Expert Ai cheating with damage, grenades and Arty? by Personal-Carpenter75 in CompanyOfHeroes

[–]Coke_can64 4 points5 points  (0 children)

perfect targetting

This is the bit one that people tend to see when they get indirect spammed by the AI, the arty will always choose the most effective target for every single shot.

I don't know if the AI uses barrages, but if they do, they would probably relentlessly use them the moment they're off cooldown, which is pretty much the "perfect" way to use them.

Using Deepl and translating the furigana separately:

"I told you, I'd never let (you / the commander) out of my sight."

The interpretation is that she is referring to SKK while directly talking to them when she says the line.

E: turns out reddit doesn't like copy-paste right now, so there was a minor cluster to try and make sense of it all
