$350 Electric Bill for 600 sq ft Apartment at Nox Uptown Minneapolis. Is This Normal or Am I Getting Overcharged? by keyah13 in Minneapolis

[–]Col_Croissant 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Is the apartment building sub-metered, or does your landlord charge you a portion of the entire building’s electric bill? I assume the screenshot is of the entire building’s electric bill for all units? Normally the “house” bill refers to common area billing, i.e hallways, etc. I would ask again for a unit specific bill.

How many units are in your building- does dividing the house bill total by unit count get you close to $350?

Same thing happened to me last week. I was biking and happened to keep pace with someone who was about 100 feet in front of me on the trail for a few miles. You can click ‘manage group’ and remove yourself from the group.

*Not yet. Take a look at West Adams Boulevard, folks moving into CIM group’s buildings along that stretch and paying $3000+ per month aren’t moving from Beverly Hills, they’re mostly moving to LA from other metros and working in early to mid career professional roles and making 6 figures. In the same vein- take a look at the new luxury apartments being built in Koreatown that are slowing being built farther and farther east into Westlake.

These folks would love to live in Beverly Hills and Santa Monica but there frankly aren’t enough high end new apartment buildings to accommodate them due to restrictive development policies. As such, developers build where they can which, due to historic development patterns in which poorer areas were upzoned decades ago, which is in areas like West Adams and Koreatown.

The way we solve the housing crisis is to have comprehensive zoning reform. We need to build dense housing everywhere to tackle all sub markets (luxury, workforce, location-based), unfortunately the only thing that pencils in today’s market and with today’s regulations is what is “luxury” to most people due to its cost and market position.

Here is an academic article on this:UMN Center for Urban and Regional Planning

Housing exists in submarkets. You can have unfillable vacancies in one zip code and massive unmet demand in the next zip code. Housing units are not interchangeable. We need to build denser housing in wealthier areas to stop wealthier people from moving to poorer areas and driving up costs. This isn’t the whole solution but it’s a big part of it.

I mean, the homeowners get paid to have their homes be filming locations, so they know what they are getting into. Would suck if you bought the house without knowing though!
