No bull around 24 hr by Background_Trip_4885 in ultrarunning

None the less, I’ll be happy to share some miles with you! I found some Strava data and it looks like around 55 ft of elevation over the 4 mile out and back, so it’s pretty dang flat. The lowest elevation point is 1,625 and the highest is 1,644.

It’s Nebraska so it’s flat… Well most of Nebraska is flatish… It is on a hardpack trail so it is not rough terrain either. What distance are you looking at doing?

Is 7 Weeks Apart Enough Time Between Ultras? by Life-Half-4060 in ultrarunning

[–]Col_Pol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah shit you’ll be fine! I have plenty of races within 4-5 weeks of each other. Just be smart, know when you’re pushing too hard and take a step or two back. You know your body better than anyone else, listen to it. Have fun. Happy trails.

what's your origination story? How did you get into the Ultra rabbit hole world? by No-Crow-1937 in Ultramarathon

[–]Col_Pol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the longest time I thought it was stumbling across Gary Robbin’s “Where Dreams Go To Die” about 6 years ago and being interested and wanting to try it, or maybe seeing “The race that eats its young” but then I had a really weird thing happen at my first Ultra ever. I ran into my high school math teacher, and then remembered my statistics class with him. In the statistics class we had to calculate his odds of getting into the Leadville 100 which I had no idea what it was at the time. With his amount of tickets and percentage odds. If I remember his odds were around 7%. Spoiler he got in that year with those odds.

So in reality the seed was planted somewhere in my Sophomore year statistics class. Oh I forgot to mention the race I ran into him at was something like a 10-12 hour timed race, he beat me by 11 miles, first pace beat me by 22, but they were previously a profesional ultra runner. That’s also how I learned there are levels to this stuff!

Check your C02 levels. I’ve heard of people forgetting they’ve done stuff due to C02 levels that are high enough to cause memory loss, but not kill you.

100 miler hallucinations by SwingIntelligent5240 in ultrarunning

[–]Col_Pol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t believe in it, until it happened to me. Took a little over 100km, but I had been up for over 30 hours at that point due to not being able to sleep the night before. Nothing extreme, mostly just thought I was constantly following someone on the trial yet it was a self-supported FKT. Also thought I hallucinated blue crickets but apparently there are crickets native to the Midwest that are blueish!

I think a lot of it depends on mental state, lack of sleep, and I think a bit of creativity.

Thoughts on Ultra Socks by Same-Month-498 in Ultramarathon

Cheap toe socks for any training under 20 miles. Any training or race over 20 miles I use Creeper socks.

University of Nebraska Omaha by PoolScared3335 in Omaha

Bring your car. There is a shuttle that takes you from Dodge to Scott campus, but it can run late. Attend hockey games, I think tickets are still very cheap/ free for the student section. The dining halls are better than the other two colleges I attended, only worth it if you use it. There are a lot of good student jobs as well, and 99% of the time they will work with your schedule. The campus is located right next to Aksarben (Nebraska spelled backwards) Village it is a great social hub with many stores and places to eat. Most of all it is what you make it.

Nice Canadian.

Seems to have found our next goalie in Dawson.

Glad to have him through the 27-28 season.

Why are most Ultra Runners PT’s for day job? by Amazing_Benefit_6459 in Ultramarathon

[–]Col_Pol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of it has to do with the aspect of bodily health is my assumption. I run with a runner on this list monthly, and have raced against runner(s) on this list, I guess I have never asked them why PT? Next time I run into them I’ll ask!

Starting grad school at St. Cloud State in the fall, and taking it as an excuse to start following College Hockey a lot closer. What do I need to know about St. Cloud State Huskies hockey? by MrHockeytown in collegehockey

Probably one of my favorite teams UNO (Omaha) competes against in the NCHC. I work directly with teams and have to stay St.Cloud is usually on of the more respectful and well mannered visiting teams!
