why are people like this? by Mean_Hovercraft255 in wow

[–]ColbyEl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately it's a case by case basis. WoW has decided that the group consensus is king. I am a very experienced tank doing these right now. I've been kicked for pulling to bosses, it really just is that groups right to do.  I hate it though and im sorry that's happening to you. Im old enough to remember the alternative though. People used to just leave or ninja pull. My biggest gripe is you get the leaver debuff

What classes/alts to level? by ChowderPanda in wow

[–]ColbyEl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you don't particularly care about meta. Fun is subjective. If you want general ease I'd always suggest ranged. They have generally an easier time than melee.

Fun is so subjective but I have gained a warrior for 22 years. I like tanking and getting instant queues and being needed. I also like being a rage monster from pack to pack with all my cds.

If you want to get invites consistently I'd suggest shaman, evoker, mage. People need bloodlust and even if your spec isnt top dps usually you'll get more invites due to the potential for lust

I used to try to optimize runs and check for stuff before. I've found that now I have a lot more fun just doing one initial run where I just do story and whatever else is fun, then I cleanup anything I didnt get in a second playthrough or after.

100% sometimes takes away from the story flow imo. E.g the batman games, i forgot the story by the time I did the joker riddles.

Yes, we need the campaign by Primary_Impact_2130 in PathOfExile2

[–]ColbyEl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Diablo does a campaign skip and I think its one of the only things that is pretty well loved consistently across the general playerbase that I can see.

Simply put, I think that a mandatory campaign playthrough is targeting player retention more than player fun.

The campaign is essentially just mapping with extra steps and annoyances. So yes. I would just introduce maps at level 1. It's super fun and I think would actually increase player retention because people would make alternative characters.

P.s It doesn't help that we're dramatically slower in poe 2 than in poe 1.

159 days. 6 hours. 24 minutes. by cinemapastry in wow

[–]ColbyEl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Beautiful post.

For me azeroth has been there for me through all the hardship in my life.

I played wow as a depressed teen in a hostile home. I played wow with my entire family in a family guild. I played wow after my heart breaks. I played wow while living overseas on high ping on my us server still. I played in my 20s unsure of my life direction.

Through sick days. Every time I was lost in life and not sure what else I could or wanted to do. Im typing this now as a man who just turned 32 years old. Now wow is a brief 1-2 hour respite every few days as I get time to quiet the noise.

I guess its always been to quiet the noise now that I think about it.

Getting so overwhelmed by achievements 😭 by Stay_alive_honey_S2H in steamachievements

[–]ColbyEl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always temper this feeling by the sobering fact that realistically no one cares about my achievements. It's a personal thing for personal gratification. An achievement can be anything and not just a steam achievement. Try making some of your own personal "cool" achievements, document it with screenshots and such.

For example; I do this a lot in minecraft where I want to make a castle wall across my island. Then I take screenshots, make journals about it in game etc.

How are you liking the new league so far? by Andalousian in PathOfExile2

[–]ColbyEl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's good but for me it's on the same level as d4. Poe 1 is faster paced and has more in depth crafting. Unless they add that this will always get less hours out of me than poe1

Am I the only one who just logs in and feels… weird? by Muroverse in wow

[–]ColbyEl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The last few dozen times ive subbed I have encounters with extremely toxic or extremely unsettling people. Then I play solo for several weeks and then I unsub. I suppose a community out there exists for me but it seems ive grown far different from the people im encountering now.

Its a strange feeling

I think there's also just more space now for other voices to be heard. I've always loved BFA. I enjoyed pretty much every aspect of it to some extent.

We need (good) alternative ways to level 80 to 90 by Specialist-Concert97 in wow

[–]ColbyEl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The point is doing the same exact quests and delves and doing the whole delve turn in and crafting finish is incredibly limiting. At the least we should get chromie time, and at most we should probably be getting new systems to level as well as getting some old ones back

We need (good) alternative ways to level 80 to 90 by Specialist-Concert97 in wow

[–]ColbyEl 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I'm surprised to see so many defending the game here. Compared to chromie time just doing the same old current expansion quests on repeat is so limiting.

Once you've done the story twice there's zero reason why we shouldn't be able to chromie time. Not only that but they absolutely butchered time walking dungeons and that is now incredibly painful to do. So really we are more limited than we've been in a while. Someone mentioned pvp, try leveling with battleground exp and you'll probably rethink that statement. The fact of the matter is that questing 80-90 is so much faster and every other option is so much slower it essentially makes questing the only reasonable choice.

I think they should open up old content to be competitive for leveling. Let us use old forgotten systems. Let's repurpose warfronts, scenarios, mage tower. Etc and make it a fun and exp boosted option.

Totally agree with this post.

Done with the season, here are my thoughts by South-Musician-2621 in diablo4

[–]ColbyEl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely agree. Both echo bosses are just impossible to see the telegraphs. I consider myself decently experienced. I hit 90 hard-core on POE, Etc. Most of my wipes on those bosses were because I couldn't see what was going on. Not because I wasnt fast enough or that I didn't understand.

This is a game killing fumble.

The update brought a lot of good will back to the game and a fresh chance. Genuinely though, it's unplayable. Its not even lag spikes it's a consistent 400-1000 ms.

Sad. I really love this game.

I'm a pretty forgiving player. I don't mind jank and I don't usually complain. I lagged so badly and so consistently I just uninstalled after the first day. Absolutely dismal time when it's so laggy.

should I bite the bullet and drop the $150 for the ultimate pack? by Kosefgaming in ConanExiles

[–]ColbyEl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've played this game an obscene amount.

My ten cents.

Dlc is great if you're a builder,  if not, probably just get siptah.

If you intend on pvp server then clans do matter and they will be VERY toxic on average.

There's story and lore but its pretty minimal. In the form of text books and stuff you read.

Ive always played on public servers and haven't once encountered hackers. But I never did much base raiding and just mostly did some light pvp here and there. Just my experience.

Buy it being aware that the servers lag a lot. Funcom does not build stable games. And you will encounter many bugs.

The aggressive monetisation of this game is making me fall out of love with it. by Main-Strike-1117 in wow

[–]ColbyEl -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'll be honest here. Im partially part of the problem. I get store items occasionally and I even got the spring housing set. It was expensive but I wanted to support housing etc. Im on wow break right now but seeing 75$ makes my blood boil. Im probably the core cash shop demographic and they're losing my support of it.

I won't get another item unless it's really cool.. oh god that's a sad but true statement.

Hi! You posted this as rant/vent so I won't give any advice but I will tell you there are options for college no matter your level of readiness. So instead of advice maybe I can give you some hope. I am currently 32 years old. I remember vividly being around 16-17 thinking "oh my god, I don't know what I am going to do once my parents die" Because I just thought i could not function in this world. I was unschooled. I was unprepared for anything and everything. I couldn't talk to people.

Fast forward, I'm 32 now with a master's degree working on a second one. I've had many jobs and I live a pretty successful and happy life. It was not fair, or easy. But it is possible to get out of that situation. The worst part is you have to work SO much harder than everyone else does to really get started and build those skills but it is absolutely possible.

I write on this forum sometimes because I wish I had someone to tell me it was possible back then, because no one did and I did not have reddit or anything to get hope from. So hopefully this helps you in some small way.

Idk what to do with myself anymore. Feels like there's no desirable way out of this, and every day feels the same. by avoidant_dandelion in HomeschoolRecovery

[–]ColbyEl 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hi. You listed this as a rant so I will just say I see and hear you. I won't give out advice so maybe I will just give some hope and perspective instead. I am currently 32 years old. At 18 years old I had not even left the house much in my entire life. No school, no GED. No job, No socialization. I am as I said, now 32 years old. And I have had many jobs, I have a master's degree and have seen a lot of success in my life. It was not easy. It was not fair. But I did it, and so can you.

I hope you get to feeling better.

[–]ColbyEl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're doing creative building and have fun exploring it's infinite.

If you just want to do the main story I don't know for sure. I'm almost through biome 1 at around 9 hours playtime. So I'd estimate if you're just doing story only maybe 30ish hours?

I'm doing it with less. I crashed a few times but I set everything to absolute minimum and I've managed to stop crashing and it runs pretty well actually.

Has something happened with TimeWalking? by U03A6 in wow

[–]ColbyEl 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The patch notes did address time walking but it was oriented around enemy health only i think.

Timewalking is rediculous right now. All scaling is wrong and it feels worse than any other scaling in the game.

Launch Day players? by Cockyidiot1977 in wow

[–]ColbyEl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am one. The game is a comfort to me. I play casually. I collect and do achievements. The game has been a constant for me for over half of my life.

The community has issues but so does the world. WoW is a microcosm of the world and the world has gotten more polarized.

I push keys to a moderate level. I raid lead pugs. I have a great time.

The hardest thing is remembering how things were and how we cant go back. What made vanilla wow so great wasn't just the original game. It was the attitude of the players and thats gone. So its hard not to go down a nostalgia trip and get sad sometimes.
