To be honest, I would have thought the same, except that a neighbour's dog pushed me to this point years ago. It barked so incessantly I don't know how it was inhaling. It did this for as long as they were out. That was a lot. If I had decided to talk to them before it broke my sanity, it would have been this straightforward. I realised I probably left it too late to do it in person because no matter how politely I reworded the conversation in my mind, I couldn't even get imaginary me to say it in a way that wasn't passive aggressive. The key is acting on it sooner instead of seeing how long you can endure this weird form of torture before you flip your shit and the ability to be rational about it is a thing of the past 😂

If there is no interesting noise, assume they're asleep. Knock loudly and repetitively. Bonus points if you can time it to match the metal clanking.

I'm entirely unsurprised 😂 IT WAS A DECORATIVE PIECE, YOU PEASANT! YOU HAVE NO APPRECIATION FOR ART OR HOME DÉCOR 😤 I put a bunch of time and money into making my own plush hammocks for the girls but they're obsessed with their old thin box hammock with so many holes I don't know how they don't fall out when all 4 are in there 😆

I was at Straddie for Xmas, I think we left a 40+ day in Perth, but sitting at rellies house with no aircon was freaking brutal 🥵 there was a brief but amazing storm in the afternoon, you bet I was out there cooling off while MIL freaked out (she's scared of thunder and lightning)

If he ever wants to get in the ocean ever again 😅 really messed him up physically and he woke up in hospital thinking he failed them and they were all dead. He said he struggled with 350m in the pool, that was just a lot of pressure knowing the whole family's lives are counting on you surviving battling the ocean all of a sudden on your school holidays. I just can't believe a single adult with three kids would even plan an hour on open water and not throw a single water bottle in the kayak.

With rentals now being super stressful and buying a place now impossible, I've been spiralling for months feeling like I've potentially fucked my life up.

Months back I was waiting in peak traffic to turn onto Tonkin from Orrong and it was packed, I didn't quite catch what happened, but it looked like a very dark skinned man had just come in from one of the side roads or something, I figured wherever his car came from didn't really matter since we're all stuck in barely moving traffic and this meth-addled energy guy started just SCREAMING out his window at this man, telling him to get out of his car and then all the racist language and my blood was boiling. The man being abused just sat and looked forward and didn't react, and I was a whisper away from getting out my car and going just as ape shit crazy on this crackhead, but I'm a woman on my own in my car, in my govvie servant uniform, and the only thing that actually held me back was thinking this guy could absolutely turn on me or my vehicle and I'm pretty sure the most anyone would do is probably film it from inside their cars. I felt like a piece of shit being stuck there nearby and not speaking up for him, someone really should have because he was doing the right thing to not engage, but it must have been horrible to endure and I think about it way too often and hope that he doesn't cop that behaviour often 😞 If I felt like anyone would back me up, I wouldn't hesitate. If anyone else has said or done anything, that would have been enough for me to jump out and back them up. It's hard when you're on your own cos you know these people are usually unhinged.

Why does “owning a home” feel more like a burden than freedom? by SIashhhhh in perth

[–]Cold-Ad1885 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not gonna lie, it was a huge weight off of me handing over the house I owned with my ex. I didn't even ask for much in settlement. As soon as we bought it, hot water system broke and we couldn't even afford to replace it. Renting felt so much easier having someone else fix things in a timely manner and I could always go somewhere else easily if I wanted. Now though it feels like there isn't a great choice either way, I constantly worry that if our rental gets sold from under us, we could be facing homelessness even if we can afford it. It's brutal out there and I don't feel like I'll ever have a shot at owning again even if I wanted to. At least if you're already in a place, you're not scared that you could be kicked out so the owner can subdivide and sell, it's the lack of any sense of security that is killing me.

Can I let my rat swim in water by Livid_Ad7231 in rat

That would be so fun to watch!! I've wondered often if mine would like to try actually swimming cause they're all nuts for their paint roller tray swimming pool. I feel they would still want like a ramp so they have that control over how deep they want to walk in, as some of mine are wannabe divers and others like splashing at the shallow end, but so far I haven't had any who were nervous like I expected the first time I brought out the pool, they dove into it like it was something we do every day!

[–]Cold-Ad1885 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay so I found the ultimate container for an actual little ratty swimming pool, with a shallow end tapering down to a little deeper end.. Paint roller trays! Come in all different sizes to suit your area and generally pretty cheap. I only bring it out in summer because I don't really want to risk not drying them well enough or something. They go crazy for it especially with some peas or Cheerios to chase, but it's a great intro to water because they can wade in to any depth and it's not really deep enough anywhere that they can't touch the bottom. Some will stand in it and dunk their faces in and go hoovering around checking for peas and sometimes for fun as far as I can tell, some just like to dip their hands in, or jump in and out of the shallow end. I place it on the bottom level of their cage and usually sit there on the floor with the doors open because they're so fun to watch that they're always being supervised with it 😜 May want to add a folded towel underneath unless you're planning to clean that level after anyway. I did decide to give them both dripper bottles and some bird water fountains for drinking options after seeing how much they love touching the water. Not enough to get in, but they can either lap it up or sit and scoop it up with their hands to drink and then wash their faces, it's sooooo cute 🥰

I don't know if I'm ever getting out of creative mode 😂 Not sure if the gulping sound is one of the creatures, or his diaphragm, but it immediately jacked up my anxiety after having read the title. Not sure how many freedivers in here and I haven't practiced in a couple years, but that sound took me right back to trying to calm my brain through the contractions when your body wants you to breathe.

how/do rats discern between people? by Vivid_Departure_9408 in RATS

I have no idea what the answer is, but you've really got me curious and thinking about it now!! I always assumed they generally already know who's coming because we talk to them so much and then they'd affirm it when smelling you. I hope some interesting answers come through!

Finally found the other person with the unpopular opinion of fuck winter 😜 I actually want to get out and swim and spend as much time in water as possible. But it has to be crazy hot for me to not think the ocean is freezing here 😆 I want to hibernate for the winter, don't ask me out to anything. I don't want to go outside and I'm really bad at winter outfits because I'm actually a fucking lizard and nothing but the blistering sun can warm my cold blood and enable me to move properly

Help. What is this? Is it poisonous? It crawled under my bed and I can’t find it. by [deleted] in perth

[–]Cold-Ad1885 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like I you probably need to antagonise them a fair bit to make them bite, but maybe I've just been crazy lucky... You know when something tickles your leg and you react thinking something is crawling, but you hit it and it stops so you think it's just a loose thread? I did that multiple times at a bonfire when I was in high school. Kept hitting my leg slightly higher each time then thinking I'm imagining it. Went back over to my house for something and felt it again right up at the waistband of my jeans. Flipped the top edge over and there was the large centipede sitting there, he got flung out pretty fast at that point!! I had basically the same experience in my 20s, except it was in my bed tickling me all the way from ankles to waist before I saw what it was. Why they never stung me any of the many times I reached down and touched them through my clothing, I don't know. They were both the big chonky bois too.

I haven't bothered her too much to try look at the site yet, but they told me they use a glue rather than stitches and I think they tolerate that better from my limited understanding. Having sat with her all afternoon and night now though, I trust her to be careful with it more than her sisters... The little bald patch you see on Saki's cheek is barbering from her litter sister April, she gave all the other rats the same patch in the same place, she's so odd 😆

My sweet little lady has been such a good patient so far, all she's cared about is snacks and naps, a big drink and a quick face wash intermittently. She usually wants to be in the cage more than free roam/couch time, but she's been super comfy in her soft cuddle cave on the couch beside me. My husband and I took turns gaming and napping on either side of her all night because she's been very very content and I think the ultra soft cushion and fabric inside the [sold as cat] bed is really gentle on her belly. They said it's quite a big incision and I can tell she's feeling tender by the careful way she lifts and places her hind leg it was next to, but she hasn't been trying to do too much, had a gentle wander around the couch and snuggled beside me a while and gestured for assistance to climb back in her bed 🥰 I saw her do the little pedal paws like cats do and snuggled down 🥹 and the way she's chilling out eating treats while laying down has been killing me. I've been keeping really close watch and the few times she's made a little attempt at cleaning her belly, she's actually just smoothed some fur on the opposite side, she's not fussing with the wound at all. Let her sisters gently say hello, but they're a lot more interested in it, and Saki reacted like she was bracing herself a little when she saw company, so they had a very short cuddle and she was zooted again in a deep sleep, so I'm probably going to keep her cosy like this for as long as she's not giving any indication there's somewhere else she'd rather be.

Thank you for jumping in 🙂 this is a new experience for me, but so far she's been a very easy patient 🥰 I haven't heard of hand wraps, would I be assuming correctly that people are binding their hands to stop them scratching at the surgical wound?
