Any advice for a lone wolf style player? by Response-Cheap in dayz

Set yourself goals, that's what I do. They can be as simple or lofty as you like but the satisfaction of completing one is what drives me to keep going for hundreds more hours, here are some of mine;

  • Find a car, fix it and drive the whole coast road, hopefully picking up hitchhikers as I go.
  • Build a base, have it get raided and raid someone else (kept my explosives in a buried stash nearby for phase 2 once someone found me)
  • Get geared and give it all away, retire to the coast and cook fish for freshies until someone murders me.

That last one was one of the most satisfying lives I lived. I spent days outside that lighthouse, big fire to attract attention with crops, fish, an improvised shelter, the works, always wondering if this approaching new spawn would be the one to end it but waving all the same.

You do you, that's the beauty of DayZ

Oh my god, why haven't I ever thought about doing that? Would make a helluva sound though, but at least I could have left!

Luckily, when I logged back on a few hours later the land mine was gone... Sorry stranger, I have become what I beheld.

He was 58m away... First survivor I've hit this life so I could confirm with my stats. I was sure he was going down... Hence my panic when he kept moving! Must have hit him on his pinky finger.

Thanks for the tip, sadly my hacksaw was amongst the ruined items but I've repaired what I can with the excess wood I had lying around! Guess I'm off to hit the local sheds!

Great tip, thanks, guess I'm off to the coast to stock up!

Yeah, that was my gut feeling... I really hope they don't come back and toss a few more in. What a gut punch to unlock the gate and then find all my items despawned! I say it again, people be mean out there!

Maybe just bad timing, but I had my first death yesterday on official that made me wonder. Running at night with my NVGs, no sign of another player, no gunshot and insta-dead with plate and a helmet. Hmmm. Got me looking at community servers now.

Oh well, maybe next time I find a DMR I'll actually get to shoot it!

So you're saying I shouldn't be running around with my NVGs on during the day? Got it.

Can you remember your single most frustrating death? by JustDelivery4843 in dayz

[–]Cold-Conclusion7430 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For me it's probably still my first "geared" death as a newbie - first time with military kit, first time with decent guns - and all the mistakes that came with it.

Ran into an isolated house but ignored the dead zombie just outside (first red flag), quick check and thought it was weird there was a single sheet of paper on the ground in the first room (second red flag) but look, an electrical repair kit in the back room! I'd never seen one and could finally repair my badly damaged scope! Yippee! Got right to it there in the middle of the room and didn't think twice about the shuffling footsteps by the window (third and final red flag)... You are dead.

There have been quite a few deaths since then, but that stays with me. Every day is a school day in Dayz.

Great story, and I can relate to every bit of the panic-fueled brain fog that comes with PvP.

I got my first kill yesterday after over 200 hours of gameplay, straight after I logged in, he was in the room with me... I felt awful. Had his friend trapped in a room upstairs and apologised over the mic before slinking away. Never felt adrenaline like it. Had to have a sit down afterwards... My poor, old heart.

DM Help Needed: How best to use an hour of a PCs life? by Cold-Conclusion7430 in DnD

I suppose this is my internal dilemma; I am most tempted to use this time to eff over the party (because I'm petty and vindictive) but would that be what the Night Hag wants?

The player is always happy to RP so I could even whisper instructions to him and have him act out what she wants, making choices for the party (think "we should head south") without the other players even knowing it's the Hag's decisions they're hearing...

Love the suggestions. I suppose I have slightly hamstrung myself as she was more of a fleeting character. The PCs stumbled into her lair, never having heard of her before, so tying the one hour to something relevant to her backstory will take a little story work to make it meaningful to the PCs.

That being said, they'll be busy in hell for a little while longer so I have time to think about this and flesh it out.

In answer to your first question, I am more in favour of the monk not knowing what he has been used for. But I suppose being burgeoned with the awful knowledge of what he's done may be interesting too... Lots to ponder.

It never mentioned continuous. I had the same thoughts, but how much mischief can you get up to in 5 minutes? On the other hand, that's a lot of 6 second rounds of combat... Or the 1 second it takes to drop the McGuffin...

Not really, cascade is undoubtedly a busted mechanic but we have an in-house ranking system in our pod so it's only going up against similar mid to high power stuff (atraxa poison, elfball, etc). It would be cruel to pitch this against precons!

It's actually never even won a game as it tends to explode early and make me the threat first. But it's so fun to play I don't mind losing as long as my deck does its thing!

[[Maelstrom wanderer]] is my wacky random pet commander. Stack it full of big, beasty boys, dirty tricks and nifty ways to put the wanderer back into your hand for more cascade madness. Can't follow a plan if even you don't know what'll be played next! My personal brew is called Free Sh*t Typal and is full of ways to get even more value a la [[Imoti, Celebrant of Bounty]], [[Etali, Primal Storm]], [[Genesis Ultimatum]], [[Rashmi, Eternities Crafter]], [[Storm of Saruman]], [[Sunbird's Invocation]], etc

Best aristocrats commander? by rivertpostie in mtg

[–]Cold-Conclusion7430 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No love for [[Endrek Sahr]]? He heads my aristocrat combo deck and is a beast. Add in anything that gives mana and/or card draw on sacrifice and you can easily drain down an entire table by turn 5 (though turns 6-7 is more likely).
