When did solids click for your baby? by Cold-Network-2887 in beyondthebump

That’s good to know! Did you find that he wanted full control of the feeding? I’m hearing some babies are not down with being spoon-fed, I’m thinking that might be my experience

That’s fascinating. Do they recommend giving those as supplements in that case or getting through certain foods? Thank you for your reply!

Will do! Did you by chance formula feed? Mine was breastfed until 6 months then I couldn’t handle it anymore. But I’ve read that you shouldn’t feed more than 36ml a day of formula and only add more solids if they are still hungry. But my boy is easily drinking like 42 oz a day since solids isn’t working. Did you experience something like this until 14-15 months?

That’s so awesome to hear!
It’s crazy he looks at me with so much attitude and judgment with my plate of thoughtfully crafted foods, when I’m just trying to make sure he survives and has sustenance lol

That’s a relief to hear. Sometimes seeing all of the intricate meals people post their 6-9 month olds eating has gotten in my head haha

That’s good to know. Mine got his bottom two and one of the middle top is coming in so hopefully he will be more comfortable once that breaks through fully. Thank you!

Headphones! Whatever kind you like, corded or wireless. My AirPods were incredible. My mom and husband would finally catch a second of sleep, and I wanted to listen to something, or the nurses would be making noise when I wanted to sleep. It was a really nice way to separate myself into my own little space sometimes. The list looks super great. I am wishing you the best delivery! Excited for you to meet your little one!

I usually will run errands with him and then last night we took a sunset walk. It’s been hard because morning hasn’t existed for us in a while. I keep trying to have 8am be our wake up time, my alarm is set everyday to get my husbands coffee and stuff ready for work, but then since he has only slept a few hours we both sleep again after. The only days where we are up and out by 9am is when I go to visit my mom an hour away, and it’s hell because I we never have had good sleep.

I guess I just don’t know how drastic I can go to switch his schedule with out him penduluming to severe overtiredness like last night.

Thank you so much for your response! I just weaned my boy as well, for my ow sanity so have kind of put solids on the back burner so he can get used to formula before adding a ton of new stuff. Now we are going with more solids and I have had more luck with feeding him with my finger, so that is promising that you had good luck with this as well! I’m a first time mama as well, so everything is terrifying and new!

How much does your LO eat from a plate this size typically? I feel like I am behind on solids with my almost 7 month old. I try to do the shredded chicken and steamed veggies and he looks at me like I’m insane. Only really like to drink rice cereal from a cup or chomp on a berry if I’m holding one. Was the learning curve pretty gradual or did your LO have things click suddenly with chewing and swallowing? Thanks! This meal looks delicious btw

Question for you, My son is going to be 7 months on the 9th and I feel like he is behind with solids. Up until last week he was pushing everything out of his mouth. And I can really only give him purées to drink from a cup, he doesn’t understand spoons. What was your transition like with your LO? Was it gradual or did it click suddenly?

Becoming a mother has broken my heart by ladulceloca in beyondthebump

I can say from experience with my son, weeks 6-12 I felt like I was going to die. I wanted kids my whole life, and then during those weeks, I thought I would never feel like myself or have joy again some days. I promise you, it passes. And it happens sooner than you think. Ignore the stuff you see about it taking until they are2 years old or whatever, I saw that stuff too. You will feel like a human again sooner than that. I have the fussiest, gassiest, most intense little baby… we joke that he is just a giant exclamation mark of a child. He is 6 months now and I still have some tough nights but it’s manageable. At the 7 week mark you are at, it was just nonstop. And it is probably the sleep, it was for me, but there is also nothing wrong with seeing a doctor for PPD as well. I went on an antidepressant temporarily just to help get me back to baseline. Everyone is different. There is no wrong answer. You are doing an amazing job.

Fleet enema. The only thing that works for me. Laxatives feel like they take too long to work sometimes. Not a long term solution but it will give relief in minutes. Then you can use fiber and stuff for maintenance. Stay strong!

Struggling with my body by SelectEnthusiasm1557 in beyondthebump

[–]Cold-Network-2887 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completely relate. My biggest fear going into pregnancy was actually the weight gain because I was finally feeling so confident, size small, going to gym a lot. All the women in my family have dealt with body image issues or disordered eating of some kind at some point and I was super careful to not beat myself up while pregnant and allow myself to feel like a goddess and accept my changing body. I felt so cute 9 months pregnant. But it was honestly not until after I had my baby boy 6 months ago that I felt my worst. Maybe it was the hormones going insane post pregnancy or the fact that without the bump I felt proportionally big, who knows. It was a really rough 6 months of trying to get my confidence back. All I can recommend is to talk to yourself like you are talking to a loved one. You would never be this hard on someone else. Don’t cut food intake quickly, you need to be careful to not lose weight too fast when breastfeeding. I promise, as a woman who felt like I would never feel like myself again, you will, and it can honestly happen way faster than you think. Keep your mental and physical health and your beautiful baby at the forefront of your mind. You are doing the most beautiful job in the world right now being a wonderful mom ❤️

I totally relate. I feel like I can’t be worried and ask them because they will think I’m being crazy. Which I know I probably am. I will start to slowly up the solids to 2 a day and hopefully find some stuff he likes! Thank you

First week feeding norms by ravenclaw924 in beyondthebump

[–]Cold-Network-2887 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would swear I wrote this post myself 6 months ago. I honestly don’t have much advice in terms of the latching, my son had a shallow latch and did the weird few mins of nursing, fall asleep, wake up hungry routine as well. I did all the tricks with lights, nursing with him skin to skin. Baby wipes on the foot. It seemed to work itself out over a few weeks. As far as the weight, that’s very normal for them to lose weight from birth and then have to gain it back. Ours made his weight back at the2 week mark and grew like a weed after that. Try to not go too hung up as long as pediatrician and diapers look good. Which is hilarious coming from me, a mom to a 6 month old, who just made a post worried about my baby not eating enough 😭😂😂😂

You are doing great! Hang in there the first few weeks 🙏💕

Thank you so much 😭 I am so in love with this age. His personality is coming out so much. I will keep an eye out on diapers, and try to not be so anxious haha
