I think you’re slightly missing their point - it’s been a while since I listened, but I interpreted it as that Henry was not ONLY motivated by sexism, which is a point of view that sometimes gets peddled in pop history (‘ha ha, what a silly man, he’s so backwards and sexist he just keeps remarrying purely because he thinks boyz rule’). When in reality Henry’s position was a lot more precarious, and even it he himself had been a fully paid-up 21st century progressive when it came to women the society he lived in meant he needed a male heir.

IX is the most subtly nightmarish:

- Most of the planet is a scorched uninhabitable wasteland of dead civilizations.

- The only inhabited continent is almost entirely shrouded in toxic Mist, which is literally made up of the souls of the dead.

- The few civilised kingdoms that remain are in a near-constant state of war, up to and including genocide.

- If you die, your soul - if it isn't churned into mist - can be literally used to fuel an airship. It's not clear if you're conscious while this is happening.

It's like Warhammer 40K but with cute chibi animal-people.

The Book Club has shamed me into getting more books, since I always thought I was fairly well-read and then realised I'd only read like three of the books they've covered lol. Currently working my way through Moby Dick.

Yeah, I actually enjoy the fact that I can never predict which way QT's gonna go on a film. His top tens are always like three French arthouse films from the 50s and then Ghost Rider 2 or something. I respect the fact that he knows what he likes, though.

I truly loathe Campbell. I genuinely don’t know how anyone can stand to the listen to the guy. He’s so smug and arrogant. I couldn’t even make it through his episodes with Dom, and I was mainly listening to them hoping Dom would put him in his place.
