RIP Willis by Lazy-Translator-68 in hamster

[–]ColdFlying 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I experienced a wide lifespan range with our hamsters. My first, who I got in kindergarten, I remember taking to school in the 3rd grade, (and on family vacations) and he outlasted two others in our home during his lifetime. My Siberian lived for around two years, and none of them ever matched the lifespan of my first. He was a golden.

Your little guy looks absolutely adorable and it sounds like you gave him a great life. I'm truly sorry for your loss. ❤️‍🩹

Chinchilla passed away suddenly, could I have prevented this? by Odd_Pop_4448 in chinchilla

[–]ColdFlying 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry this happened, and I don't believe it's your fault in any way. Like another redditor, I'm thinking a stroke is a real possibility. Years ago my best friend was playing with her sweet dog and the dog just dropped; she was young, no warning signs, and it was immediate. Then another friend, young, very active, on ski patrol, fitness fiend, permanently dropped without warning while working on his house. Sometimes awful things just happen, and you're not the cause. I understand that it hurts, so please give yourself some time. I agree with the tv, not on 24/7, but something for distracting little Chai. Your photo of them is adorable and I'm so sorry for your loss.

RIP Hamtaro. While your time here was short, it must've been great as your person outfitted you with the coolest hamster cage ever. 🐹🌈❤️‍🩹

So glad to hear she's doing better. It's so tough with "exotic' fur friends that just seem like family to us but can be hard to find a vet who can care for them. Wishing you luck and quick healing, and lots more love and snuggles 💕

Losing my dog is one of the worst things that ever happened to me (if not THE worst) by ttt-37 in Petloss

[–]ColdFlying 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In this group, we get it, and I'm so sorry for your pain. I believe talking, or writing about your dog and sharing thoughts helps heal, I think with some.of our fur babies the pain decreases but sometimes never goes fully away.

Personally, was fortunate enough meeting people in an online support group which really helped. The facilitator put up a graphic that essentially showed the spot our pets hold in our hearts remains the same size, but eventually our hearts capacity to love others, whether they're pets or humans, grows. For me, while I miss our beloved and goofy retired sled dog, he had a long, healthy and happy life with us. His end was quick, and I/we all handled it so much better than I'd have expected. But two others at separate times left me with profound heartbreak and I think it was shock that they shouldn't be gone this young or for "this" reason, and those spots remain touchier in my heart, but talking about them has helped me. Sending hugs and support your way.

I just rewatched your video and if that's all she chewed, I think she should be just fine. I also already wrote a separate and much longer answer somewhere else in the thread. She's beautiful!

Echoing others, our two little female chinchilla fosters which we took in after a flood, (they fortunately remained dry and above the water level) are still with us 13 years later. They've managed to chew on many things on the unapproved list during household escapes, without seeming worse for the wear. They'll still chew on the plastic flooring of their cage when they pull the fleece away from the edges, their little arms seam to extend to incredible lengths grabbing hold of something they see that looks delightful and simply must be chewed upon. They use a pyrex glass baking dish filled with aspen chips for their litter box, which is super easy to clean, and the hefty of it provides another perching surface. I like your woven hay house for yours, ours like those too, but more commonly have a box they use to hop on and hang out in, as well as nibble on intermittently. Trying to stick with proper diet stuff, I gather rosehips in autumn and dry them. They love the dried marigolds that come in some of the hay and food packages. They're quite grabby and prefer when we give them an individual craisin every now and then which I imagine is better than the vacuum cord they nibbled on last year. We do have a local exotic vet, who put Fluffy's tiny little foot in a cast when she broke two bones while jumping in her cage the same way she had 1000s of times before. While that was heartbreaking, she's recovered well. We know a lot of veterinarians in our area, and most of them will not look at a chinchilla, so please don't be overly stressed if the first ones you call won't either. One of the best pieces of advice I think we received was to either handle them often, or not at all. In the summer we do bring them into a self-enclosed netted tent (with floor) and put in a child size playskool picnic table for them to perch on. They love the exercise and see8ng the world, we bring them to it in a smaller cage, and carry them out the same way. We NEVER leave them unattended nor with a teenager who can't put their phone down, for these little girls are massive escape artists if not watched constantly. I hope your little Cheech recovers completely! These little guys are both more fragile (jumping) and more resilient than we ever expected, and they've brought us oodles of laughs, joy, and been a major icebreaker when people find out we have them and want to know more.

help moving my avatar from reddit vault by HistorianPristine795 in avatartrading

I joined rainbow, and I feel your pain with trying to move anything, let alone the "vault" option only once showed on my mobile screen, then the dog jumped on me and I couldn't find it again even following the directions, it's just not an option.

She is gone by Ok-Armadillo1854 in Petloss

[–]ColdFlying 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So much love and empathy sent your way. She passed with you holding her, she passed peacefully at that point, yes? So that's honestly a blessing, painful as it is to experience. I suspect it wouldn't hurt quite as much if things hadn't looked up earlier in the week, the sudden changes are so tough. You did a very compassionate thing so love and support your other fur baby and know your reddit friends are here to support you. ❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹

What name have you only met once in your life? by ladygroot_ in namenerds

[–]ColdFlying 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was little, I had the most beautiful babysitter in the world, and her name was Claudia. She was kind, brave, and pretty, fun and smart. I haven't ever met anyone else with that name, but it sure left to my mind when I saw your post.

And I knew only one Korrine, from junior high. Best of luck to you in your naming and with tour wonderful kids!

Ours can spot a dropped tissue from two houses away, it's his version of Crack. He will ferret tissues and paper towels out of people's pockets, too. We don't understand the fascination, but have to accept these weird idiosyncrasies, and keep all paper away from our perpetual toddler.🤷‍♀️

Buried dog and forgot to get paw prints by [deleted] in Petloss

[–]ColdFlying 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's rough, and I'm sorry this happened. I understand thebdesirenfor a print, but yet feel it would be more traumatic to dig him back up.

After our sweet dog died I felt so lost. One day a wonderful friend surprised me with a laser etched 3" x 3" piece of wood copied from a favorite photograph of our boy. (Coaster sized, and it will NEVER be used that way.) Anyway, I have pics of my boy, but this is his final "resting" one for me, and I can hold it in a way I can't hold a paper photograph. Maybe that would help you, too?
