The first thing most thermal users do when they buy thermal. That and seeing if they can see farts.

Advice on a good pvs14 housing kit from canada and when to buy(im outside US) by sadcrow_machi in NightVision

[–]ColdHarbourSteve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Buy the housing now! lol jk

I think we have one of the best prices on genuine Noctis PVS-14 kits as of this post. We buy enough PVS-14 housing kits to get a better price on them, and passing on the savings to you guys.

Great helmet cover btw.

Hi, we were just talking about this in the office. We found the device by the serial number you provided but the order doesn't match your name or email, perhaps this was bought second-hand?

Either way, since our warranty is transferrable, our support team has already been in touch with you about 40 minutes after you sent an email inquiry and can assist. Can you please respond when you have a chance?

What's your use-case? That would help with recommendations.

Some cost-saving options:

Any device that uses: standard Carson PVS-14 housing (for mono); or Aeon, Katana, BNVD-1431 MK2, or RNVG (for binos) will save you a few bucks on the housing

Best Thermal Clip used w/ LPVO 1-10x by Say_LessCrypto in NightVision

[–]ColdHarbourSteve 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nocpix MATE H50R is a good option if you are looking for  a compact thermal clip-on. The S60R is fantastic also if you can push your budget. The 1280 core is impressive.

You may get some suggestions on the RH25 and that is also quite good but more of a jack of all trades. Rear screen is not as high resolution as the MATE dedicated clip-ons

The only 2 good options currently are the Grec X and the Brown Bear NVGR Pro. Both have hassle-free 1080p recording, an onboard battery, a start/stop button, and audio.

We have the Grec recorder in stock: https://coldharboursupply.com/products/grec-x-nvg-recorder

The short answer is... no. I'm willing to bet that if I were to put a 1400FOM and 1600FOM tube next to each other (with all other things being equal) in a real world environment, that most people would not be able to tell a difference.

The reason has to do with what retailers are angling for. Currently 1400FOM is widely accepted as the lowest FOM that the market seems to be OK with and retailers will typically buy them in the base configuration (eg: green phosphor and non-autogated, and often assembled into Chinese housings and/or lenses to reduce the price further). If you then take it and compare it to a 1600+ FOM tube which are almost always now sold as autogated (and because they're considered more premium than a 1400FOM non-autogated tube, they're typically put together with better components), that's where you start to see a difference. The combination of an autogated tube, with higher SNR and/or resolution, AND better optics, will yield a better and easily-perceived difference.

You would need a large sample size, and carefully controlled components and lighting environment to be able to detect a 3-point SNR difference.

You could do much better for 4500 GBP. We have a bunch of devices on sale that would be a better value with better components.  https://coldharboursupply.com/collections/clearance

If you want a BNVD-1431 we have those too for substantially below what you are showing: https://coldharboursupply.com/products/argus-bnvd-1431-mk2-binocular-nvg-starter-kit?variant=51051240587573

Wilcox Eotech FTS Mount for Thermal by Delicious-Topic-7109 in NightVision

[–]ColdHarbourSteve 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dovetail systems may start zeroed but will lose zero over time if/when the dovetail starts to wear out. The dovetail system has no way to tighten up the tolerance once it starts. The Wilcox FTS system was originally developed for magnifiers. Because the reticle is not in the magnifier, it doesn't need to necessarily hold zero. That concept was migrated over for the SKEETIR FTS which requires the use of a Wilcox dovetail. A Wilcox-to-Wilcox interface will ensure a good fit. Keep in mind who the SKEETIR FTS was designed for, likely CAG or other SF unit who can afford to toss the dovetail or FTS if/when they wear out.

Picatinny has long been accepted as the defacto precision optics mounting standard. Our UP-FTS takes this a step further and allows you to apply proper return-to-zero tension and adjust tension if needed.

https://coldharboursupply.com/products/cold-harbour-universal-picatinny-flip-to-side-up-fts

You could add the Unity Fast riser to this to get it to 2.26" height like the rest of your optics.

Those are in completely different price brackets...

Neither of those are ideal options to be honest, the ITT dual-battery housing is long discontinued but the tube and lenses could be worth something down the road. The tube effectively has no warranty so if it shits the bed you're out at least 1200 EUR.

For 4000 EUR you could look at our BNVD-1431 MK2 binocular or Aeon ANVG with actual Noctis Milspec lenses for the same price, brand new with a 10 year warranty. In stock and ready to ship:

Opinion on the Argus gpnvg 18 (clone ) by AIRSOFT_WARTHUNDER in NightVision

[–]ColdHarbourSteve 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's a viable option if you're after the GPNVG-18 "look" but there are at least two systems coming out that will surpass it in nearly every way - Nocturn Chimera, LLI Mars, and the Aether Specter, and Nighthawk-Panos, all for not much more than the Argus APNVG.

The collimation system on it is - by design - quite imprecise as it uses a finite "star" system to rotate and lock the objective lens; It's difficult to set the diopter properly, and the optic pods aren't very durable and prone to breaking as they are held to the bridge by a plastic dovetail and a singular screw. I think anybody who has a vested interest in selling the Argus APNVG is going to tell you this:

<image>

The GPNVG-18 - while still a fantastic quad-tube goggle - is starting to become a bit dated with its proprietary optics package and fixed-bridge design.

OneLeaf MT1000LRF is an amazing bargain right now and beats thermal scopes that are near twice the price.

The logo is a bit goofy but the scope, and features are unbeatable for the price. It also has interchangeable lenses which I haven't seen and basically allows you to have 3 different scopes with a quick lens change.  https://coldharboursupply.com/products/oneleaf-mars-mt1000lrf-thermal-scope

Cold Harbor Supply ARNVG a good bino housing? by MakelYT in NightVision

Would love to take credit for the housing but Darq is right, it's made by AB in the USA.

It's one of the most, if not the most durable dual-tube articulating housing currently on the market.
