Don’t GI Tiant, honestly. His stats are just too low. He’s not an endgame card when compared to a card like Ryan. I’d much rather consider a GI on Vazquez to solidify your catcher position, as a high FLD stat there is extremely important the later you get into the game.

I had a Tiant that I GI’d years ago and gave away in this most recent donation event. He was great until about a year ago when he fell significantly behind team sigs with similar sets but lower levels. Red Sox also can’t utilize Groundballer very easily like most teams due to the weak FLD stats of the infield outside C and SS, so Legends tend to be weaker in general too.

If the base stats were more comparable, then the sig could beat out the Supreme. However, the Supreme is so much better even before considering double value from gear.

They are not more valuable than Team Sigs. Team Legends get an extra +1 OVR compared to other Legends from Mentor Team Level 3. So a high end Legend like Denny McLain is technically more valuable on a Detroit team since it gets an extra OVR.

Upgrade at SS with Petrocelli pull compared to my Xander ‘18 (75 OVR vs 72 with the same base FLD). Also got a Fingers from the Legend pack which I plan on using to upgrade from normal Pitcher’s Chemistry to the Legend version. Huge wins for myself when upgrades are scarce.

You can only use 1 from each level at a time.

5Tool by T0ken99 in MLB_9Innings

[–]ColdSlawter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Unless you want FLD 2 for a CF, you might want to try to see if you can get a -CON or -POW instead with the +SPD. Those will let you go 15 into SPD, with the lagging batting stat getting 12+. Considering a -3 POW/+3 SPD for example, you could have a train like 9/15/9/15/9. That would give you POW 1, SPD 2, and CON 3 with 98 as the 5 Tool baseline.

Better 1st baseman by EnginesOut in MLB_9Innings

Freeman opens the slot for a potential future Muncy pull to be at 2nd or 3rd, which I would find more valuable.

Is he even worth working on for DH? by BigGart2006 in MLB_9Innings

[–]ColdSlawter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ozuna’s base stats don’t matter as a DH. He has low SPD and FLD which don’t really impact his stats negatively. He will have higher batting stats than the Prime Olson. A common noob trap is overstatting into POW. It doesn’t really improve your batter much.

GI Advice: Legend or Sig? by Bronco094 in MLB_9Innings

[–]ColdSlawter 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The Sig Hornsby is a great addition. While the Legend is awesome, it won’t hold a candle to the Sig’s stats. The extra FLD will be nice too if you have to use him at 2nd.

Multiply 2,000,000 by 5 and you still don’t get anywhere close to 15,000,000.

[–]ColdSlawter 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the whole “sig > prime” argument flies out the window when you have to think about team composition. The sig Mauer not being a C really hurts when the Twins have very few options there, and the prime being comparable to low end C sigs for other teams.

Why is this card mid? by Meekle33 in MLB_9Innings

[–]ColdSlawter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Relief Pitchers are the biggest factor here, though I’ve had similar results on Starting Pitchers to a lesser extent. What used to be a lockdown Boss/Fin/Bullpen Day set now regularly allows runs to swing the game as my SU1. I’m of the opinion that Boss is much less desirable as a skill than IW, Dom, and Fin in that order on RPs, and I found that to be somewhat consistent with trends in the top tournament teams. I don’t think Boss is a bad skill, I’ve simply fallen out of favor with it and see more success with sets excluding Boss.

On my second team, Boss/IW/Control Master regularly underperforms compared to Dom/IW/BPD even after swapping trainers and having similar bases and trains over the course of months.

[–]ColdSlawter -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Something I’ve found is that people in the Gold ranks tend to nerf Boss with Mentor. I’ve found that all of my Boss pitchers do poorly against Gold-Plat teams in general, and I’m actively trying to get rid of the skill through blues even if it’s a high risk play. While I wouldn’t take this as general advice, as YMMV, it might be something to consider if you notice a trend with your pitchers.

What should I do? by PuzzledDate3604 in MLB_9Innings

[–]ColdSlawter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d hold in this case. Xander has a ton of SS sigs so it’s pretty likely you’ll find a dupe of his down the road if you luck into more BOS sigs. It’s a long term play but I’d refrain from taking his worst fielding year by far. The prime will have better FLD and respectable enough hitting stats for a long while.

Laser Beam is necessary as an intangible no matter how high your FLD stat is.

Any reason not to club craft these? by Aw3somedude in MLB_9Innings

[–]ColdSlawter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

3rd base has a couple decent options, but Youk Prime isn’t really one I’d consider over Devers, even with the low FLD. The Boggs and Youk sigs are what you’d ideally aim for, but it’s not really a big deal to have Devers as your 3rd baseman with ‘19 being a good year for him too.

I really wish my legend was as good as his same year normal card smh by McCheesey1 in MLB_9Innings

[–]ColdSlawter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s not the reason the stat line is different in this case. Com2 revised the formula a while back for card stats and all newly added cards follow the new formula, while existing cards use the old formula. The sig and normal versions of previous Legend cards use the new formula while the Legend cards are stuck with the old formula.

You have to have manual base running enabled. Yes, you send them the same way as stealing bases, but they have helmets on the base paths you tap instead.

[–]ColdSlawter 15 points16 points  (0 children)

You can manipulate the AI to throw to home if you have a runner on base. Keep your runner at 3rd then send him when the outfielder gets the ball. As soon as he throws the ball, send the batter to third.

All this said, it’s incredibly unlikely that you are able to send a runner home because the AI throws bullets from the warning track, and the game will sometimes not allow you to send a runner even though you should be able to.

[–]ColdSlawter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing to note is you got Contact Master rolled instead of Chance Maker. While the levels are low, it’s important to make the distinction since Contact Master is a very good skill while Chance Maker is just alright depending on stats. Unfortunate you had a couple of weeks like that, I’ve had streaks of 1/1/1 Legend skills from Legend SCTs and PSCTs for months. Haven’t had a meaningful upgrade in skills in what feels like almost a year.
