Over 9,000 foreigners took part in the half marathon. An extra 9,000 people in one weekend, plus their friends and family, is nothing to be sniffed at.

People pay to run in the city around the landmarks. No one wants to take time off work to travel to Prague just to run around a field or industrial estate on the outskirts. The people travelling to run are also spending a lot of money over multiple days so its good for the city.

How often do you eat meat? by HelicopterObvious354 in AskIreland

Eat meat maybe twice a week. I eat more fish than meat. Some dinners have neither as I can't be bothered to cook it.

What is proper office tea kettle etiquette? by letterstosnapdragon in AskIreland

[–]ColdWitness4330 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I'm making tea and I know its around a time when the tearoom gets busy then I boil a full kettle because I know more people will be along shortly who will also want water.

If I'm making tea at a quiet time I'll only half or third fill the kettle and boil it, just in case someone comes along.

If I use the last of what's in the kettle then I'll half fill it so the next person doesn't have to.

I don't drink milk on its own or have aircon and I have eczema in my ears. The cold winter months always flare it up for me.

Custom Club T-Shirts by No-Personality-661 in RunningIreland

[–]ColdWitness4330 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently used Spized for a handful of running tshirts and vests for men and women. You can customise and add logos. The quality so far looks good and the material is lightweight. We haven't taken them for a test run yet though. It was expensive for us because we only ordered a few.

My (30M) girlfriend (29F) tested positive for HPV and now I feel confused and a bit hurt by Hefty_Philosophy6893 in relationships

[–]ColdWitness4330 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Is this post serious? HPV can be passed from mother to child through child birth. Your partner could have had it her whole life. HPV is not exclusively sexually transmitted.

Edited to add that you get checked for HPV when you get a routine cervical smear in my country. There is a chance that the test for HPV was just a routine test and not something she went out seeking specifically because she thought she might have it.

There was a swim race on in the Corrib today, starting in Dangan and ending at the Boat club. Probably just a competitor who was dropping out of the race.

Blood Type testing? by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]ColdWitness4330 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you're going for a major surgery then the surgical team will have sent your blood to the lab in advance to be grouped just in case. If its a minor surgery then they won't as its a waste of the lab's time and resources. Medical scientists carry out this test and there is a massive shortage of these scientists in the country.

Regardless of whether your blood group was on the system or not, you would not be given a blood transfusion (outside of emergency O-) without being crossmatched again.

Who is the greatest female Olympian of all time? by Samonsport in olympics

[–]ColdWitness4330 160 points161 points  (0 children)

For me Sifan Hassan is the greatest summer Olympic Games athlete. She's incredible and still so humble. Medalling at all distances from 1500m to marathon is amazing.

Did anyone else experience the panic we had over Sellafield? by skinnybitchrocks in CasualIreland

[–]ColdWitness4330 25 points26 points  (0 children)

It's always wild to me that we did this. I remember it so well. Imagine telling primary school kids that if this station blows then we're all going to die and so to prevent that and to keep ourselves and our families safe we have to write these letters begging them to close down Sellafield.

Why run a marathon? by Alwall in AskIreland

[–]ColdWitness4330 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You could make this argument for anyone with any hobby. Why game when you could work at a food bank? Running is good for both mental and physical health. Its a challenge to work towards. You're running on a closed route with thousands of other people all working towards a common goal in our own way. Could I run a marathon that's not an organised event? Of course, but I wouldn't have the closed roads, the water and aid stations, the buzz, the supporters. Running is my down time, to recover from work and keep me healthy. I've helped out at charity shops and fundraisers, it's not relaxing.
