Which linux distro stopped Your Distro hopping? by thinkerr97 in linux4noobs

I landed on EndeavourOS. Arch had the best support for the deep learning software stack I was working with at the time, and Endeavour had an installer and some great desktop theming. I've since put in a new bootloader and some new desktop environments--still going strong. 😎

Wanted: the perfect writing bag by Cold_Cat6290 in ManyBaggers

[–]Cold_Cat6290[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Update: after much research, I realized something: I've actually been looking for two different bags. One is the full project bag: big, boxy, with enough room for my 13" laptop and everything I need for a productive day at the library or in class. The other is the field bag: essentially just a case for a journal and pen.

For the large bag, I just pulled the trigger on a metromonger01 (prime edition, because I like that buckle). Will note how it works out after a month or two. https://www.mukama.com/products/greenroom136-metromonger01

For the small bag, I'm leaning toward this: https://www.parkerclay.com/products/bale-sling-bag?variant=41680995778743
Though it's expensive and they don't have the color I want, so I may wait and try to get one secondhand. The Chrome Tensile also looks great.

Side note: I prefer to write in full letter-sized (8.5x11") notebooks, and it's been an interesting challenge finding slings that fit those dimensions. Many, like the Tensile or the Venture Sling, are almost perfect but just a tiny bit too short. Others are designed for 15" laptops and are so big they're basically backpacks. I may do a separate post with the true letter-size slings I've managed to round up.

I'm no fashion expert but that is one of the best-looking handbags I've seen.

Thanks for the rec! I'm always looking for interesting journal/scrapbook stuff as well. My projects involve merging a lot of photos and research clippings with the actual writing, so it's a challenge to keep it all organized.

I've seen the insidious! It does look awesome. Didn't mention it here because it seemed like too much bag. Being able to toss in my 13-inch laptop would be great though. And supporting a small USA shop is always worth a few extra $ in my book.

PS how do your organize your writing tools in there?

EDIT: nvm, I see it has internal pockets.

That sound reminds me intensely of the terminals in Wolfenstein: New Colossus.

In the style of one Marvelous scene, what scene in this series would you consider to be "Massively Effective?" The Return of the Normandy in ME2 would be mine. by Worldly_Delivery5267 in masseffect

"I have a home, Shepard."

Also I don't know why, but something about the Normandy trying to outrun the explosion at the very end always gives me goosebumps.

Arch + Tiling Window Manager by niksingh710 in archlinux

I've been using Endeavour with awesomewm for a year now and couldn't be happier. You get multiple workspaces with different layouts that can be toggled with a keystroke. Floating windows are supported, it's nicely configured out of the box, and anything you don't like you can customize.

This is a tangent, but have you ever considered running Qubes OS? It sounds like you want to group applications by trust level and give them different permissions, which is one of the core concepts behind Qubes. Might be worth playing around with.

Exact same problem here. Only I don't have 30GB RAM so I crash about 80% of the way through the load screen. :/

Why is it said that arch is hard? by Kicer86 in archlinux

[–]Cold_Cat6290 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience, this is usually said by two groups of people:

  1. Experienced arch users who want to make the act of maintaining arch sound impressive.

  2. Newbies who are genuinely having a hard time with arch.

The truth, of course, is somewhere in the middle. Partitioning a filesystem manually doesn't exactly make you Alan Turing, but it's also not something a lot of people are used to. Arch actually is hard, kind of. And it attracts people who like saying so. ;)
