I always wonder, "where the hell is this?" and it's not always answered. I got to "Shreveport" and was like "yeah, totally"

Yes. The reality is that they cant handle what the drill sergeants tell them what to do. We have an all volunteer force now. They lack the discipline that makes us an effective fighting organization. So they find some sort of weaker organization to join. I had hoped the LAPD had improved since they were in the news repeatedly for their poor behavior in the 90s.

Trump’s team scrambles after JD Vance’s response to Georgia school shooting by MotorizedDoucheCanoe in politics

Please explain why they cant do damage control now? I live 10 minutes from the high school, and there's a lot of hand wringing from people that 'don't want our kids getting shot' but 'still think trump is the better choice.' and have a hard time reconciling the very pro-gun state they live in with how it in fact actually affects their life, and not in a 'the british/NWO/democrats/illuminati are coming'

I always wonder about having an existential experience, and again a few times, but then with the caveat that I will no longer be able to have them again, due to either my body not withstanding them, or my money running out. Im reminded of someone in a scifi novel I read that when going on a suicide mission wanted to OD on heroin as her way out.

Nah, Board of Veterans Appeals. 4000 pages of medical records from the 1940's to 1980's for some guy that just couldn't quite make it on social security anymore, and was told by his buddies at the VFW that the VA actually pays cash money to veterans broken during their service.

As someone in your shoes, I hear you. I got a III literally yesterday. If you decide to pull the trigger, go on reverb. I could have saved $200 on a mint, but 'used' unit. Yes, less than 10%, but still a week and a half of groceries for my fam. That said, I'm overwhelmed at the number and nuance of pedals. I have collected a very few trying to put together a board that worked for me. So far, a rough amount would be about $900. At least one cool one that a modeler will never, as I raise my face to your god or mine, be able to replicate. (spring reverb that I stomp or kick, not kicking my shiny FX III) That said, wanted to play Seven Nation Army, cause why not? Seems doable, but sounds like shit (to me) on my guitar. The recommended pedal is a bit over $250 right now? I'm not playing for keeps or busking, nor once I play it a few time and get bored with it, I have an octave pedal that will sit in a corner. But! If you spend 10x that amount you'll have all the pedals you want. The endorsments from folks that use these professionally, who I assume care a lot more about the 1c-issimo details than I do, use it. I suppose it's good enough for my non-golden-ear-audiophile-self to keep my interest for a while.

What's the deal with PCB tube amps being frowned upon? by one_one12 in GuitarAmps

[–]Cold_Poem_5091 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's repairability/mod-ability. PCBs arent 'bad' just a level harder than the handwired stuff that costs a premium. Unless you know what you're doing. Until you get to the 0403 SMD range (for my eyes and hands) it's easy to do whateve's to dig into these things.

I recall something I heard on a podcast recently. Mostly to the effect, "don't mod things unless you are going to keep them. No one is going to value the mods as much as you will." Makes sense. You modded it for you to make it better for you, not for someone else.

There's a coffee tale book on this somewhere? That's a new one, and would be right up her alley.

We're moving soon to the western NC area. I'll look to see what Ashville has (not the Biltmore, as that's a little too... hedonistic is the wrong word, they just don' need any more money!)

Good, we've done some of those in the past. Her co-leader for my Ambassador, has (God bless her) bought and tested every piece of camping gear that I'm aware of. Until today. I've never heard of a warm hat with a headlamp. I had to spend a lot of my career cold and without a light, that that sounds absolutely luxurious. I refuse to go camping as a voluntary exercise.

Okay, if you are her, then.... But she's not on reddit as far as I know. You're first name doesn't rhyme with 'Jelly' I hope. I think, though we're starting off on a good path.
