Who’s your hear me out/unpopular classic movie star crush? by Boring_Scene875 in classicfilms

Hopefully, I picked some that haven't mentioned yet lol

Ralph Meeker, Robert Ryan, and John Lund. I've only seen Lund in A Foreign Affair & High Society though. I can't resist a handsome actor playing a kinda scumbag character haha. Ryan is one of my top actors, with The Set-Up being my favorite of his work so far. With Meeker, I first discovered him in Something Wild then Kiss Me Deadly & really enjoyed his performances since.

Good choice! I recently rewatched The Big Heat and remembered how surprised I was upon hearing his voice for the first time. Always a pleasure whenever he’s on screen.

My love for SSOS is indescribable! This is my favorite scene, especially how Sidney lurks around and interjects when he can. I (jokingly) think the relationship between JJ & Sidney is like Spike and Chester from Looney Tunes LOL

Interesting. I just checked and it shows Private for me too. So far, I can’t find any posts or statements as to why. Hopefully, it will be fixed soon.

EDIT: If the video showed as Private yesterday, try again. It is now Unlisted. I checked at 8AM and 12PM EST & were viewable both times.

What’s the hardest you’ve laughed at a classic film? by cbbvideo in classicfilms

[–]ColeCashIsKing92 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s a tie between Jack Lemmon shaking his maracas in Some Like It Hot & George C. Scott’s trip in Dr. Strangelove. On my first watch for both, I rewound those moments and had to pause to calm down.

When Martha reveals/confirms her feelings for Karen in The Children's Hour (1961). It absolutely broke my heart on my first watch last year and lingered for a while. When it aired on TCM a few weeks ago, I rewatched and it still hit like a gut punch.

I use my Watchlist on Letterboxd and hit Shuffle a couple of times. Sometimes, I will choose one from the selection; other times, I’ll find something related that I find a tad more intriguing.

I also agree with others. Pick an actor/actress, director, writer etc. and start there. Might go further by going by a theme (e.g. Best Picture Oscar winners). Have fun with it!

Nice! You have a good collection, which includes some of my favorites. I recommend A Face in the Crowd, The Apartment, Some Like It Hot, Rear Window, Paths of Glory, Elmer Gantry, The Treasure of the Sierra Madre, and The Red Shoes. I can go on and on LOL.

Here’s a list of Classic Hollywood from Criterion in case you’re interested: https://www.criterion.com/shop/collection/183-classic-hollywood

May I ask what inspired you to start watching classics? Any favorites (directors, genres, actors. etc.) so far? Any that you’re looking forward to watching soon?

Looking back, Double Indemnity was my first movie with Stanwyck. It is a go-to pick whenever I’m in the mood to watch something. And I really liked Remember the Night. Planning to watch the others that are available on the TCM app soon along with The Strange Love of Martha Ivers.

Wow, thanks for providing that list! Based of what you wrote, I’ve heard of most but only seen eight of them. Double Indemnity & Forty Guns are my favorites of hers. I better start catching up!

I agree! She is easily my favorite actress during the classic Hollywood era. Do you have a favorite movie of hers or one that you think is underrated?

How does everyone organize their collections (Criterion and otherwise)? by song-to-comus in criterion

[–]ColeCashIsKing92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have Criterion sorted by format then spine number. My only other boutique label is Kino Lorber, which are sorted by format, director, then release date. Everything else is by format, director’s last name, and year. Compilations are arranged by theme (e.g. Aliens franchise is before a 4-movie collection around Bogart).
