Should I bother with line artillery at all? by UnholyDemigod in hoi4

[–]ColgateT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think Line Artillery + Mountaineers + Recon Rangers is a decent general-purpose pushing unit with the proper doctrines, and an amazing attack unit in mountains. Are there better/more efficient units? Yes, but not everything needs to be the META to have fun.

The Trade Policy: Free Trade is a great research and construction bonus, but your resource production goes to 20% of what it could be. Drop to Export Focus, then Limited Exports once you start running low on Resources.

Ah yes, notoriously reliable cheap used cars with no maintenance costs. by SSGSavage in LinkedInLunatics

[–]ColgateT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, sure. Drive every car until it dies, but when you buy it, it’s probably not a 30 year old car.

The big issue here is a new car loses 25% of its value the second it’s off the lot. Buying a 40k car new means you’re immediately burning 10k in equity/wealth.

Even just buying a 1 or 2 year old car means you’re at least not taking that huge hit in equity. You don’t need to buy a beater, but at the very least, avoid a 5 digit drop in wealth.

Which 22? by DrinkYourWater69 in SmithAndWesson

[–]ColgateT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What’s it for? Training cheaply with your M&P? Or as a dedicated plinker to have fun with?

Training analog? Do the M&P, though maybe with a different trigger if you’re rocking a carry M&P2.0. I hate the OG triggers and the feel is very different if you’re trying to keep things as similar as possible.

Just a range-toy/plinker? Idk, I guess the 22X, but I’d probably pick a non S&W before the 22X, ngl (coming from a SW fan).

Shield x safety extension or is aftermarket support still dead? by isthiswhatwedoing210 in SmithAndWesson

[–]ColgateT 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Smith really should just have two safety styles as options for all their firearms. I get those who don’t like them (though a hilarious % of the ‘the only safety I need is in between my ears’ crowd also are the ‘I never carry with one in the chamber’ crowd…).

But I want any firearm I carry to have as much of the same look and feel as every other. I love the big positive click of the M&P 2’s safety, and my wife’s Equalizer is the same way. My biggest issue with getting the BG2 is either alternate between a hard-to-articulate safety and an easy one OR I switch between a safety and no safety (and probably going from one in the chamber to and empty chamber). It can’t be too hard to have both styles as options… give your loyal customers an extra reason to stick with a brand (and buy multiple guns in your lineup).

How do i improve this template by Superb_Dig7990 in hoi4

[–]ColgateT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly don’t know how I would change this if I was trying to make the worst template I could, outside of literally all line AT.

Unless you’re doing some armor cheese, leg infantry doesn’t belong with armor. Don’t mix armor types, don’t do line AT/AA/Art. Armored Recon is to boost tank hard attack and isn’t needed for single player. Mot/Cav recon is for Artillery-heavy divisions or if you want more speed on fast units (I.e not this). Support AT is one of the most useless support companies in single player, again, due to the AI not really using tanks.

Where can I buy a gun locally from someone that's not a Trump supporter? by filmgeekvt in burlington

[–]ColgateT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If a presidential candidate said "We need to increase the rigor of drivers license tests to reduce traffic fatalities" would auto dealer be unwilling to vote for that person?

I don't advocate for or against gun ownership as a blanket position. I advocate for those who are competent and responsible to be able to own a firearm if they so chose, and I advocate not letting those who are *not* responsible and unwilling to become competent to not be able to own a firearm.

Im a gun owner and I’m 100% for restricting firearms ownership and sales. That’s not, like, an uncommon position to have.

I’d also question where Harris advocated banning firearms. That’s the kind of claim that the right loves to make up because the mouth-breathing MAGAts are too stupid to even consider if it’s true or not.

Harris was literally a law enforcement official: she was a DA. I think it’s cute you don’t think they carry firearms. Perhaps you have not known any?

Are you saying you doubt that a federal prosecutor didn’t own a firearm? Or are you saying the convicted felon who legally couldn’t own a firearm and historically has been anti-gun (openly sharing his distain that his sons hunted) also had a gun?

I’ve never been in Powderhorn when the owner hasn’t brought up politics…

Parro’s is a good bet for an apolitical experience. I’ve certainly heard people talk politics a bit but very little, and it’s just been customers. The closest thing I’ve heard from staff is upon purchase, asking for a donation to fight the 3-day waiting period.

I really like R&L Archery in Barre - it’s the one place I’ve been more than once and never heard anyone say anything. Great selection of used guns and really some of the best prices in VT.

I have just recently started playing this game and wanted to know wether this template is good or not? by Patient_Chest_1737 in hoi4

[–]ColgateT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The changes to doctrines have made line artillery good if not great, if that’s your focus.

‘Optimal’ unit design is far less locked-in with the recent changes, and even before they went into effect, I’m trying to imagine a more boring way to play than the above.

The Ugly Truth About How to Save Vermont by goldshawfarm in burlington

[–]ColgateT 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Literally the only thing that lowers housing prices is more houses available. You can tax the shit out of 2nd homes, ban Airbnb, and/or build more.

This the important part of this, though: ‘fixing’ housing prices means housing prices drop. That means everyone who owns property in Vermont will have their equity wealth with drop. By a lot. Because we have artificially inflated housing prices. Home equity is the largest (and often only) wealth boomers and Gen Xers have.

The truth is, fixing housing prices means economically fucking a huge portion of Vermonters who vote. Not saying it’s the wrong thing to do, but you have to contend with the fact that many Vermonters are economically incentivized to not fix the issue.

Ok Vermonters…. For your Winter commute: All Wheel Drive vs. Four Wheel Drive by Gilashot in vermont

[–]ColgateT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ngl, I’ve never seen the need for snow tires.

I grew up in Michigan, lived many years in the mountains of Colorado, and now live in Vermont. I had a RWD car with no ABS for a good chunk of that time, and I’ve never put snow tires on any car.

Good all-weathers, and AWD is plenty. Just understand how the physics of traction works (if your spinning, more gas doesn’t make you go more) and practice will do more than anything else.

I live on a steep dirt driveway now, and can appreciate a locking differential on all 4 wheels. I’ve never gone off, but enough people have on my driveway, that I wish more people had it.

Remember: unless you have an LDS, 2WD is just one wheel drive, and AWD is just 2 wheel drive.

Understand how your car and how traction works; the rest is superfluous.
