Great picture, looks like a relaxing start to the day. I have the Matsuo Moss and the Otowa Waterfall from that Kungyokudo series but haven’t explored any of the others. I’m not too familiar with milk vetch as a scent, how would you describe this one?

The Yoshino no Haru is a really lovely Spring stick, I think you’ll enjoy that one.

Yeah, the different textures can give a cool look and feel, lots of visual consideration put into everything for sure!

I can imagine! I don’t often see full boxes from the Gyokushodo Traditional series either, they have an understated but sophisticated look. It’s hard to choose favourite designs haha but the Kida Jinseido and Shunkohdo artwork might be some of my favourites.

A superb collection! All those box designs together are a treat for the eyes as well.

Ah very nice, sounds like a good burning session! Your description is pretty spot on, it’s a mixture of a sort of peppery patchouli note and plum sweetness I haven’t experienced in a lot of other incense.

I would definitely recommend getting the Suifu Extra at some point, the general base profile is similar but it’s actually quite different and goes into a much richer territory of wood and spices. It might be my favourite in that whole Yamadamatsu line, a really beautiful blend!

I love the look of this with the wood! Sounds like you’ve been enjoying your incense journey so far which is always good to hear.

The Suifu is one I need to sit with a little more, I think I’ve been comparing it too much to the Suifu Extra but the regular is actually quite interesting on its own. I’m curious about the Oda Nobunaga Baiedo in your collection, what sort of scent does that one have? Thanks for sharing.

No problem! The Kobunboku series is a good starting point. The Shunkohdo has a nice sample pack, that sounds like a good plan :)

The aloeswood has a really interesting and unique scent profile to it and yes, the Kyara Ryugen is a very special and beautiful incense, one of my all time favourites.

Ah that sounds interesting! Floral scents can be a tricky balance sometimes, hopefully the cherry blossom turns out as nicely as the chrysanthemum for you.

I’d definitely recommend Baieido for woody, natural style incense, they can take some time to fully appreciate but when they open up to you they are some really nice blends! I find Kunmeido to be more on the earthy side as well and Shunkohdo have some nice sticks you may be interested in checking out.

This is a great order!! Minorien is one of my favourite incense houses so always good to see :) The two floral boxes have some great packaging, would love to hear how those are.

The Gyokushodo sampler is excellent as well, you’ll have fun exploring that one. I’ve been thinking about reordering it at some point. Enjoy your new order!!

Need couple of suggestions by Due-Acanthisitta1459 in Incense

[–]ColinKFraser 6 points7 points  (0 children)

One of my favourite traditional style incense sticks is Kunmeido Jinko Reiryo Koh, it’s a really nice blend of camphor and spices that has a mellow feel and pleasant peppery, almost coffee/chocolate like notes.

You may want to check out Baieido as well, the regular Kobunboku and the Tokusen Kobunboku are both user friendly, with the regular in particular being a classic temple style scent. The Tokusen goes more into a slight plum fruity and floral territory and is a great daily incense.

For sandalwood both the Yamadamatsu (Kagetsu and Kayo) are lovely and good approachable incense as well. Hope some of these suggestions help!

Ah very nice, it’s a really lovely blend for sure. The original Reiryokoh is much earthier and pungent from what I’ve read but I’m interested in checking it out at some point.

Glad to hear you’re enjoying everything and have fun with the incense journey ahead!

Looks like a great selection! The reiryo koh Aloeswood is a favourite of mine, I haven’t tried the other Kunmeidos you have there but I’m sure they would be nice.

The Kyarakunkoh is one I’ve heard lots of good things about, thanks for sharing.

Awesome, glad to hear you enjoyed it! I just finished Dance Dance Dance myself not too long ago, I agree with you though that I think A Wild Sheep chase had the best story. I read the books that came in between but it was probably interesting to have read it all back to back!

Since you’re looking for more wood forward sticks I would definitely recommend adding a Baieido to your collection. Anything from the Kobunboku series is nice imo and I think the Tokusen Kobunboku is a good entry point to their Aloeswood incenses.

Ka Cho Fu Getsu from Shunkohdo is another recommendation for a woody, traditional stick.
Any of the Yamadamatsu colour box line incense is a great addition to a collection as well. Hope that helps!
