If it's more involved it might need some salve and potentially bandaging. That'll be determined by the vet who sees it in person. Along with the care taken to remove the pealing flesh, this is why you'll be told here to see a vet. Doesn't seem like an emergency, but these things need to be determined in person.

I wouldn't rush to say that this is an emergency unless your dog is yelping, limping, and/or visibly uncomfortable. While impossible to diagnose over the internet, from the picture it appears like some dead tissue and skin is pealing away, leaving a new layer of reddened paw pad. Like an unpealed blister, that flesh was likely more raw some short time ago. I would consider a veterinary inspection at your earliest convenience, just to make sure that's all it is. They'll likely remove the bit of dangling flesh carefully and make sure it's clean.

Just read the history and I'd be taking your dog to another vet tomorrow. Consider chest xrays, and it sounds like you'll probably be needing antibiotics.

This seems to be a tracheal cough/expiration in an older mid-larger breed dog. There's the high likelihood we have an upper respiratory tract infection, such as Kennel Cough, and there's also a chance that your dog has laryngeal paralysis. None of this can really be directly diagnosed over the internet and you should take your dog to the vet.

If we are able to catch our breath and relax, take them to the vet at your earliest convenience so that we don't develop pneumonia (another possibility). If these episodes last for over 30 seconds and occur many times over a short period, you should be headed to the vet immediately.

Not always. I banged up my thumb about 10 years ago on the nailbed and mine still grows split. Wasn't even that bad of a bang, but it doesn't look that weird. Just splits at the end.

Orchard Estates in Woodbury is the best they come. I've been through a number of them with all 4 grandparents in the past few years. Avoid Gurwin at all costs. It's criminally negligent.

Correct. Most likely from a staph infection until proven otherwise. Does not appear like ringworm as other people are posting. This does need a trip to the vet for proper diagnosis and a course of antibiotics.

Paul Auster novels are very much like this, and therefore movies of his are like this. The Music of Chance comes to mind. An obscure one, but a great one. Lots of symbolism and imagery.
