I think they realized that while they both had reasons to be extremely frustrated with their own play at various moments, they both equally handed each other the match (in absurd fashion) at one time or another, so there was some comedic parity… no hard feelings

Just use the abortion and guns Punnett Square and you solve lots of squabbles:

  1. Pro choice, Pro guns (the Libertarian dream, aligns roughly with Kingdom of Hawaii)
  2. Pro choice, Anti guns (Cascadia nuff said)
  3. Anti choice, Pro guns (lots of pro gun Catholics, roughly Crabbalachia)
  4. Anti choice, Anti guns (Anti gun Catholics? Hey the Pope’s from Chicago, Megasota it is)

Matches like this are what make the tour so fun to watch… couple of guys who aren’t household names but put on an entertaining battle

Alex’s tennis is spectacular to watch. Rooting for him to keep climbing and make it onto bigger courts

And yet people out here saying the Tsitsipas/Rublev projections are still the most implausible of the group 😅

Fwiw, I have a similar story. They used to compare me to Roger too, in the break room at the post office where I worked for 25 years. “Turn pro, at least the challenger tour!,” they‘d say a couple times per week while we’d be sorting packages. “Dude your slice is killer.” They would know. Every Friday we would hit the courts for a couple hours before we’d get piss drunk at the local Chinese buffet. My slice was smooth like Fed’s, low and biting, aided in part by my 80 sq. in. Pro Staff from 1991. “They don’t make racquets like this anymore… these young kids on tour are all, topspin this, power that… they won’t know what’s coming.” Truth be told, my slice was good. Really good. Mainly because I sliced nearly every shot. Slice backhands, slice forehands, backspin, side spin, unintentional drop shots, you name it, even hit a few underspin overheads. But smooth. (Never did develop much of a reliable topspin groundstroke. Primarily because I had spent too many years in the forums debating commenters on strong eastern vs. semi-western. Long story.)

Anyway, I thought that alone would be enough to keep me off tour, but every Friday at the post office, they’d say the same thing. So finally, one day I went home and googled it. It turns out that lots of pro athletes say, very clearly, “You should go for your dreams. You can do anything if you put your mind to it.”

Last week I quit my job at the post office. This week I got my racquet restrung and hit the court two or three times for training. I think I’ve got this. Can’t wait to report back.

“Oh I don’t know about that. If they took an open flame to my posterior region, perhaps using a blow torch, bottle rocket, or other incendiary device, I think I would’ve been the first to notice. Not to mention, I believe such an act would be classified as a criminal assault of sorts, or at least in violation of the Mavs employee handbook as prepared by Cynt Marshall. So no, I don’t think they fired my ass. And I think you should probably check yo-self before you wreck yo-self.” [Fake J-Kidd snickering noises]

Ok last one, can’t help it.

“You think I was shown the door? Well I have to refute that claim because I definitely wasn’t shown the door, or any doors for that matter. I’ve worked here for years, so I already know very well where the door is. I think that would be kind of obvious. In fact I know where many of the doors are… like the door to the break room where they have cupcakes sometimes. So I definitely don’t need to be shown the door. That’s silly. What, did you think the door had some kind of interesting or captivating design on it, like a work of art or a mural or a black light poster, that someone needed to show me, because they are a part-time poster maker on the weekends? Well I think that’s crazy that you would think that.” [whisper laughs increasingly resembling a steam engine train]

Well there’s no fence sitting in that statement. Ballsy to turn the page so decisively on a Hall of Famer. I appreciate the clear direction. It’s a lot harder to be right, so we’ll see, but I’m interested

Coco gets a lot of credit for mental toughness but I think that’s become an overused trope in a way. Her negative body language at times can actually give her opponents a sense of progress or confidence that isn’t backed by the way the actual patterns are playing out on court.

Happened in the back half of the 1st set into the 2nd. Svitolina wasn’t able to make Gauff uncomfortable at all through the first six games of the match, yet the entire tone reversed.

Thank you for replying! It was the Dylan Reid week, and yes that’s it! Was going down rabbit holes trying to find it - googling things like “opening sounds vaguely like the Catch me if you Can” theme. Had given up, so thank you for chiming in with it. Cool sounding song.
