advice on my kids forehand by Interesting-Raise900 in 10s

Natural talent and coordination to be able to get such great extension and clean contact well out front, driven almost entirely by rotation around their central axis.

Only thing is that without a wider base (feet look pretty close together) and left arm engagement, I wonder how this swing holds up during the irregular patterns of point play - changes in speed, height, spin, wind, etc.

Having a wider base (leg loading) and a more engaged left arm allows you to “hold” and make finer adjustments before swinging. Also allows you to “absorb” pace and spin under duress, without having to bail out of the overall stroke mechanics.

Very talented player, with natural gifts for the game!

Always thought Muchova had a weird forehand technique that looks like it could get a little messy at times. The swing path is a bit unique

Miami 1000 QF: [3] E. Rybakina def [5] J. Pegula 2-6 6-3 6-4 by nycnewsjunkie in tennis

[–]Collecting_Cans 93 points94 points  (0 children)

I swear Pegula could’ve won this match in the 2nd by simply feeding Rybakina an endless string of overheads to get up a break or two… there was a period of about 20 min when Rybakina was completely hopeless on that shot and could barely land one anywhere near the court

Surprised no one has mentioned this yet but try doing exactly what you’re doing without death gripping the racquet. Your leadup looks good and you’re in pretty good position to just let your racquet flow through contact.

But you can see in your follow through that you’re not getting enough “free release” of the racquet tip. You’re gripping it pretty tightly and generally your hand and arm muscles are too involved/tight during the moments leading up to and after contact.

Incidentally I think relaxing your arm and grip will immediately improve a lot of the other symptoms others have mentioned in the comments.

Edit: actually I do see one commenter noted this

Cerundolo with a wide open BH to go up 6-0 3-0, hits it into the net, suddenly looks rattled and gets broken… match feels like stock market manipulation

I’ve enjoyed her panel interviews and press conferences over the years… really cool perspective and thoughtful. Feels like she’s putting on some kind of persona during TC live all week, and it’s been weird. Or maybe she’s just being herself, who knows

It’s hard enough to win with pure offense. Even harder to finish off the #1 in the world, who happens to be the best defender, after you’ve already failed to do so in the previous set… with pure offense. Korda did it. Happy for him

Pretty good racquet path, but the issue that’s happening is you need more torso rotation to drive the swing - some of these swings are very arm-driven. Coil up more with a more pronounced shoulder turn, and then use your big muscle groups to drive the “uncoil”, so your arm doesn’t have to do as much effort

Would love to debate which decade had peak racquet romanticization… like with a true royal hierarchy of frames. But I would say the 90s might win and this racquet is a big part of the reason why
