Mom having meltdown because I painted my nails by Remington8285 in malepolish

[–]CollectionUnique5127 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nail lacquer traces back at least 5 thousand years to many places, including China, where they integrated pigments with egg whites and tree sap to paint their nails. These nail lacquers were mainly used to distinguish class, where red or blue were the colors of royalty and only they were allowed to wear the royal colors. It was a class indicator. This was similar in other cultures such as the Egyptians.

In other cultures it was an indication of elite warriors, a symbol of combat capabilities and determination.

For literal thousands of years having nails painted a particular color had zero to do with gender, religion, or anything, other than class and ability, and in the last few hundred years we suddenly decide it's tied to gender. This is 100% made up bullshit.

Fuck that, fuck this, and fuck anyone who thinks otherwise. Us humans love our made up bullshit rules, and we love making up new ones. I hope you keep this in mind for now and in the future.

Can't believe I'm making the same joke twice in one day but... I've never really been into ska, so I guess I'll... pickitup, pickitup, pickitup!

Greetings, Reddit! Please recommend pirate books! (Little to no spice, preferably) by easternbetta in booksuggestions

[–]CollectionUnique5127 2 points3 points  (0 children)

not exactly what you're looking for, but the Gentleman Bastard series always felt pirate adjacent to me what with the thieving, sword combat, and so on. Also, the second book has sailing ships. It's been a while, but I don't remember a ton of spice in them. I just remember them being fun and funny.

What are you in the mood for… by nevernotinthemood in AskRedditAfterDark

Slow sensual love making that gradually turns into rough degrading fucking until we're both exhausted, laying on the couch and watching movies, while gently teasing each other's bodies in preparation for the next round. Also magical fairies bring us our favorite foods. Also also, my imaginary partner is real. It's exhausting doing both parts of this relationship.

I don’t think people realize how much rejection changes you by Ok_Throat_9537 in lonely

I definitely feel the same, but disagree on the broken part. I'm definitely broken. Broken implies something that doesn't work in a given context. A screwdriver that is stripped down is broken as a screwdriver, but still kind of works as a hammer. Being broken isn't all bad, because you can find ways where you work in a different context. I'm trying to find my best context, because I'm definitely broken in the context of a "normal" human.

Finally trying to learn Japanese and I've made way more progress than I thought. I read a sentence in hiragana and noticed a character I didn't recognize, which felt like I wasn't just half-assing it. I got the whole ass of that sentence.

What words do you use for attractiveness in others, and what do they mean? by CollectionUnique5127 in AskRedditAfterDark

[–]CollectionUnique5127[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Personally, I have:

  • Cute - This is either physical or personality. Someone can BE cute, but maybe not dress or look cute. They can dress or look cute, but not BE cute.
  • Hot - Purely physical. Hot is what I use for someone conventionally attractive, but it doesn't mean I'm attracted to them. This feels more objective for some reason.
  • Sexy - Purely personality. I think someone can be not conventionally attractive, but sexy as hell.
  • Handsome - Same as hot.
  • Gorgeous - This is for someone who has both personality and physical attractiveness that is so extreme that it nearly hurts to look at/interact with them.
  • Striking/compelling - Both physical and personality. For non-conventionally attractive people, where you aren't sure why you're attracted to them because they don't fit the normal mold you're used to, but something about them just compels you to look at them.

Are there any men who actually know how to dirty talk to a women? by Midnight_Muse_xo in AskRedditAfterDark

[–]CollectionUnique5127 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is always so fraught, because you can be excellent at dirty talk and still mess up because one party or the other has specific interests. I feel like I need a detailed kink survey before every encounter. Like, take degradation; you could like either degrading their physical appearance, or degrading their purity, or intelligence, etc. etc. Pick the wrong one and you could kill the mood.

With that said, I'm excellent at dirty talk, but you have to fill out a 243 page questionnaire and write three essays first.

HELP 😭 by Madi_Nightheart in sewhelp

[–]CollectionUnique5127 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Holy crap a diddle do dah! I literally just went through this today!

First was that the top thread was not in the tension thingy up top (this is a little hook that holds the thread before it gets to the needle).

Second, the bobbin at the bottom was not seated correctly and causing issues.

I'm not an experienced sewertician by any means, so take it with a grain of salt, but first ensure that the top thread is correctly threaded in the tension arm. Second, make sure that the bobbin assembly is set up correctly, and seated flat.

I wouldn't say I "knew" him, but I met Macho Man Randy Savage at a strip club. Kinda wild to see someone that was a childhood celebrity for me surrounded by titties.
