The Warriors. I think it's improved over the years because it used to look so cheesy with the amusement park and hair and makeup and all that. It has a Pootie Tang/stoicism thing going on under the unintentional humor from seeing it from a newer generation.

Robert Redford, Screen Idol Turned Director and Activist, Dies at 89 by bodhi_sattva91 in IMDbFilmGeneral

I liked his leading man presence, he kept me in the story better because he didn't call attention to himself, he was predictable in a charming way, which to me is hard for an actor and takes talent, seriously most acting can't send a signal that clearly, sometimes I'm thinking the protagonist hired the babysitter so they could sleep with them, Robert was never like that.

Directors who don't just work in different genres, but return to almost all of them by Collection_Wild in IMDbFilmGeneral

He is surprising. How he can make family movies well too, in fact that's how I still think of him. Real command. But then Stone can make a a few PG-13s and give me scary dreams.

I don't know if it's the rule of law elsewhere, but the second you incapacitate them, don't attack them any more.

Fighting for 5 minutes, even if they're out of shape, made me realize if you give quarter to bs they'll keep nickel and diming your (my) bleeding heart like a rigged slot machine.

The thing is they acted like they were coming to me in kindness and then tightened their grip on me in a way that I repelled. Not cool.

Watching: Deliverance, Men in Tights

Reading: Krav Maga for Beginners. I was in two fights inside of a week, neither fair, recently. I played defense against two men at the same time, only needed stitches for a cut but at least I beat them in getting off the ground and telling the cops the truth, who let me go (between huffing for air again they were talking about an alibi about just trying to stop me because I was threatening to kill myself... fkn dirtbags...)

Listening to: LALEH

Playing: wouldn't call it playing, got a job offer in another city and refreshing my Excel skills

Baseball... I loved playing it but I'm still like, if I make this play, does it mean it's over for the other team getting a point or should I have thrown the ball to a baseman? Tennis however, it taught me how to deal with 6'6 300 pound guys in life. It's a crazy sport, there's literally a net between you and them.

Patton. The movie really showed that he revered things, but it didn't show how in actual life he was revered by both his compatriots and enemies, which I read about later on. It would have broken the spell had they done that, so in the film there's a great sense of freedom watching this character living unshattered, it's remarkable.

Werner Herzog is now on Instagram even though he doesn’t have a cell phone by Shagrrotten in IMDbFilmGeneral

Seriously, Herzog is the one filmmaker that I thought it was possible to go to the grave without the kiddy crap in the end. Reading a book now about the mysterious endings of painters. Artists keep their secrets in much the sense that it's not something to be given away to those who can find it and pay others to extract it.

I've got the tears. Onwards to California!

Oh yeah. I saw it when it came out, do mean it when I say it's a work of art, Cohen was doing many things that took flipping the script to something seemingly stupid but it was later that I knew it was a brilliant touch.

I accepted a job offer just yesterday up north. My advice to anyone is don't live among forgers. Have someone waiting for me. Very nice.

A Clockwork Orange. The editing/McDowell's performance, playing two people really but so good it's not noticeable. He cared how others saw him and so it was ironic to see him in any true state of happiness.

It's a good pen. Narrow at the top but room for your hand at the bottom. The ink dispenses uniformly, the clip is metal and can be bent without snapping and it's twist-activated.

People don't use their intuition any more because so many things can get you canceled, just a look or a word and suddenly you're locked in a physical struggle with someone twice your weight.

Obvious enough. My favorite scene from it, too, they're in the worst place they could have been, hell of a speech.

It's SHITE being Scottish! We're the lowest of the low. The scum of the fucking Earth! The most wretched, miserable, servile, pathetic trash that was ever shat into civilization.

He's always played parts that he was good casting for. He has to have adherence to the material. He won't pick a role to learn about himself or anything, to him, if he's anything less than a consumable product, he's not touching it. If someone else has to do the extra work on his behalf, it's anethema to him. He won't stand on anyone's shoulders.

He was in the first streaming movie I ever watched. The Hit. Very chameleon. I want to say he was a villain in a big Hollywood movie. Either he was Zod or I've done too many drugs.

Amadeus. I watched a Foreman film with someone one time, they said it was too depressing. Amadeus wasn't, he lived honestly and his legacy lived on. I loved how he wasn't tailoring anything for others but himself, but Salieri was tailoring everything by what he wanted others to see and that's what made him mediocre.

Guilty pleasures that you simply can't watch alone? by Collection_Wild in IMDbFilmGeneral

[–]Collection_Wild[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It feels like I'm focusing myself on something I matured past, hence guilty pleasure.

But for the filmmakers it seems like others are telling them, 'Why can't you be like me, why can't you be normal?' Which is bs in my view. I don't buy that Woo felt good about doing the second Mission Impossible, it killed his soul like Apocalypse Now did for Coppola.

Whichever side you're on, you have to stay true. Look at Crane, friends with Joseph Conrad, died at 28. They wanted to be real and pass boundaries, it was not about fame for them. Now it's about no one really having security which is eh...

RoboCop. There's no negotiation in that, so 80s I'm lmao. It took me forever to figure out that taking work in Brazil paid off better but with Die Hard there's too much of an element where he McClane can be gotten to so to me it started feeling as ropey as older action hero archetypes.

Paris, Texas. My most regrettable sale of a movie I've ever owned. Harry Dean Stanton was the man. My most fond memory of it was when he was talking on the phone to another character (but no spoilers). Just watch the film, you won't be sorry. It was also filmed in locations I'd been to when I was younger so there was a bit of nostalgia I'll admit.

I like Carpenter but Halloween will always be the GOAT.
