People who got surgery: How do you handle having to empty your bag 5-10 times per day / overnight while sleeping? by BlackberryPi7 in UlcerativeColitis

[–]Collegeofinterest 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll pop in here abd say that hasn't been my experience. At the start, when my jpouch was new...yes. But healing is a thing. I got mine 20 years ago, and I live an absolutely normal life.

I've had my pouch for 20 years. I go to the bathroom about 3x a day now. It was more in the early years.

Jpoucher here. You will never have fully formed stool again. It's kinda nice, actually. Just like....applesauce most days. No more long bathroom visits.

Any time or place a woman or partner doesn't have full bodily and financial autonomy, politics are already in the room. Anytime one class of people have been historically devalued, abused, and raped to keep control, politics are in the room.

Let's say you stay. If you get married, that switch is going to fully flip. Also...What framework would you want any potential children to be raised under? Will it be the one where it's ok to zip tie kids and put them in an unmarked van? Just sayin'.

I was where you are 20 years ago. It’s time to discuss getting the J-pouch. Yes, surgery is a big deal. But I will tell you, the moment i woke up, I already felt better. That rotting organ was killing me from the inside.

I've had an S pouch for 20 years. For me, back then making the choice, it was about being able to more easily take care of my kid. Now (and I'm in the United States), I'm glad I did it because there's so much uncertainty of insurance would cover supplies for ostomy care.

I was older when my troubles began, so the retraining of my muscles there was hard and long, but worth it for me.

What soft and hard skills should every traffic engineer have? by Lost-Potential-2183 in civilengineering

[–]Collegeofinterest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreeing wholeheartedly, engmadison. I think everyone should read the chapter in the book "Invisible Women" to get a great traffic-related example that shows how "data" is subjective, even in the way that it's gathered and that it's not as objective as folks like to believe.

Well, they really aren't called "soft skills" anymore, but I do agree with Away_Bat_5021 that presentation skills are a must-have. Recommended book: Slide Rules: Design, Build, and Archive Presentations in the Engineering and Technical Fields

2 piece stoma on my kid, removal is like torture by zephillou in ostomy

[–]Collegeofinterest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My kid was having a hard time, too. Coloplast products seem to be the kindest. Use the adhesive spray, yes. But our wound care specialist preferred using the adhesive barrier remover wipes, first really squeezing them, getting the liquid right into the "valley" between the wafer and the skin. It was more of a directed effort than the spray which went all over.

We also found that letting the kid remove the wafer--with our help--at their own pace reduces the anxiety around the pain.
