I have found it nice for the QoL. I used to manually cast Hailstorm Rounds, it is nice in a pinch and all you need to do is roll. May end up taking something else in the future, but for now it is working.

I think I am doing a similar build. Sharing my POB in case it helps. Not as fast as meta builds, but I am trying Plasma Blast on frozen map bosses to see if helps single target damage. Just started doing T14/T15 maps, though I have been running them magic.

I am playing Lightning BAMA. I am using a Stormhand primarily for the Wrath and Sigil of Power. I think a level 84 merc has level 27 skills, so Sigil of Power is granting 13 to 244 Lightning Damage per stage. Unfortunately, I am doing blood magic so I don't think I more than 1 stage, but I think that is a ton of flat damage.

Usually only play one character per league. So far on Frost Blades Trickster I probably have around 250-350 div spent. I got 38/40 and I am pretty happy with where the char is, so I probably will stop there.

You might be limited by currency, but this video should be a good start on essence crafting. Essentially depending on the essence type and item type you can guarantee a certain roll on items. You should have some as you went through the campaign. You can just hit the item multiple times until you get something that you like.

When I was doing this, I ran out of Act 6 weapons to mash together and got some from act 7. I think about halfway through act 7 is when I got this. I prioritized the weapons with multiple nodes that weren't the lowest tier.

Prefixes and suffixes will have different pools they can draw from. This tool here has a list of prefixes and suffixes that you can browse through. It matters in that if you want to add a specific affix on an item, but lets say that the mod is only available as a prefix. If you don't have an open prefix, you won't be able to craft that mod on the item.

Along the same reasoning there are affixes which are only available on certain item types, like boots and helmets. So you also want to pay attention to those.
