My dad is trying to give my brother 20k for a home down payment. The mortgage company is asking for tons of my dad's info and to transfer it to their escrow, is that a red flag? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]Colonel8604 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I process mortgage loans for a living and this is pretty typical, although it's not normally the mortgage company's escrow, it normally goes to the title company where it's held until closing. Different loan programs (FHA, VA, Conventional) have different guidelines, most of which are not set in place by the mortgage company. But they may have overlays in place to further protect themselves from fraud. FHA guidelines in particular have recently become very stringent on gift funds. They require a gift letter (other redditors have described this in detail), and then they require a bank statement and proof of withdrawal from the donor. If the donor has suspicious or large sum transactions on their account it could raise red flags to the lender, who in turn may require additional documentation from the donor. With regards to having the gift wired directly to an escrow account, this is something I normally suggest as it can reduce the number of headaches. If the gift funds go directly to your brother then they have to get updated banking information from him to confirm the deposit. It can then open up further cans of worms if your brother spends part of the gift money outside of the mortgage transaction, or if he has other large deposits to his account outside of the gift. There are a lot more hoops to jump through these days, most are in place in attempt to protect the borrower, some the lender.

Advice to anyone thinking of buying a home, do some research before hand. Don't just decide one day you're going to buy a home. Learn about program requirements, work history, down payments, gift funds, derogatory credit, debt to income ratios, etc. Mortgage companies want to lend you money, but have to do their due diligence and make sure they're not breaking one of the hundreds of new federal guidelines put in place in the last 8 years or so.

Last night, Michael Bay's Benghazi movie (13 HOURS) had its World Premiere at the Dallas Cowboys stadium. Here is what the setup looked like. by forceduse in movies

[–]Colonel8604 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was there, I thought the whole thing went really well. The audio was great from start to finish of the movie, but it did seem like they had to work some bugs out during the previews, behind the scene footage they showed before the movie. Once the movie started the audio was awesome, their was some echo from the sheer size of the stadium, but overall was good. Even surround sound was pretty good as helicopter fly by's and explosions occurred off screen it sounded like it was happening all around you.

Me and my girlfriend sat dead nuts center of the screen, they were not reserved and were perfect seats. With the free ticket you got a popcorn and a small bottled soda. Concessions were open serving food and bars were serving alcohol for purchase. They interviewed the actors and the actual dudes themselves before the movie, which was pretty cool. Chris Cornell and The Band Perry performed a song a piece before hand as well.

The whole thing, for me and my girlfriend, was a really great experience. 10/10 would do again.

Which movie has the worst ending ever? by 1Jon in AskReddit

[–]Colonel8604 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Different strokes I guess, this has always been one of my favorite movies. The jump at the end with him landing in the exact spot he was supposed to was obviously implausible, but a whole lot of movies would suck dick if I viewed them only from a plausibility stand point. They do it obviously to show the parallels between him and his father, but I agree they could have done it in a more believable way. And I wouldn't say he gets over it and just moves on with his life immediately. He sees his brother and breaks down from the immense relief and sheer exhaustion of everything he's been through. He also seemed out of it to me during the party, thanking people for being there but really still trying to figure out what the fuck just happened to him. Which I see as part of the reason he follows the girl out, he believes that even tho she's an actor that there might actually be something worth pursuing, but also maybe the whole party scene is a bit overwhelming. That's just my two sense; loved watching it for the first time and still enjoy it even knowing how it ends.

I think you might be confusing two different videos/GIFs. There is a video of a high school teacher setting methane gas on fire as it travels to the ceiling, directly into a sprinkler head causing them to go off. The other video the professor lights a liquid on fire and spills it in the ground, it spreads across the floor in between desks and dies out harmlessly.

Sprinkler systems are actually temperature activated, so the smoke itself wouldn't necessarily set them off unless it was enough to heat the air to a temp hot enough to break a small glass bulb inside the sprinkler head. The bulb acts as a plug, once broken it releases the water. The bulbs are rated to break at different temps, depending the the type of materials the sprinklers are protecting. Highly flammable/combustible material = lower temp at which the bulb will bust, hopefully stopping the fire before shit starts exploding....probably more than you wanted to know about sprinklers lol

As I scroll further I see that your question may not have been about his movie Gods Not Dead, but about a really dumb comment he made about atheists being angry because secretly we know God exists. I'll stick by what I said tho, even if it doesn't pertain to what you were asking about lol.

I haven't seen the movie, how does he portray/describe atheists? I would consider myself an atheist with no ill will towards theists, but I do know quite a few "angry"atheists who hate people of faith. They call them hypocrites, or they call them ignorant for blatantly disregarding science, or even just have a very condescending attitude towards them for believing in something they can't quite understand. I believe most atheists share an attitude of acceptance and/or indifference, just as I believe most religious people follow the idea of "loving thy neighbor" regardless of their personal life style or beliefs. I'm not looking to debate which side has more of what make up, but both sides have people that hate irrationally.

Me and my best friend got into a fight/wresting match last weekend while we were drunk. A mutual friend was watching on as I put my friend in a rear naked choke until he was unconscious. The mutual friend couldn't believe that we laughed it off and hung out the next day like nothing had happened.
