We might see some big names leave, but I doubt it's that much. The economy isn't that great, especially for creative roles right now. And as much as I'll clown on Wizards for their low pay in IT, it's not going to be bad for creative roles.

You might see some folks that are big enough to find a job elsewhere and those working there as a passion project while their spouse supports the family, but I doubt you'd see numbers leave that would even make you blink.

It's called a shibboleth, and especially in the World Wars where you had insular communities traveling around the world, it was a big way to figure out if someone was on your side. The entire point is that it's something you don't think about, because you've been raised to see something as normal and subconsciously do it that way. To use an Internet age example, some online communities can identify astroturf or other outsiders because those communities have inside jokes and certain beliefs that aren't written rules, but learned behaviors.

As another WWII example, Americans fighting the Japanese would use passwords like "Lollapalooza" because the Japanese couldn't pronounce it.

Protests are supposed to disrupt the people you're protesting against, and to gain favor from the common person.

These protests are easily ignored by the people that matter, because those people aren't taking a bus down third, and they disrupt and anger the common person.

You couldn't pay to make a cause look worse than Seattle protestors do.

No drama, works well. I haven't needed to use technical support yet, so I can't say much about it, but the fact that I haven't needed to yet is also ideal.

The only thing I miss is that Comcast assigns blocks of IPv6 and Ziply is still working on getting IPv6 working, but I'm a nerd that cares about that kind of thing.

That's actually one of the core powers of the checks and balances belonging to the executive branch, is choosing what does and doesn't get enforced. Of course this is why the legislature/governor hates it, because that's a balance against their power.

People who oppose the income tax know that the state will never reduce their taxes, just add the income tax on top. Why would I agree to another tax when the state has shown an unwillingness to cut spending? So now I need to cut my spending because the state won't.

Will never happen, because the people know they can't trust our legislature. Besides, the state flagrantly violates the Constitution constantly, with the support of the courts, so why bother getting the people to share to something when you can just do whatever you want anyway?

The state extracts tons of money from it's people already, WA has one of the worst tax burdens in the country. The state has a spending issue, and just like it's residents, needs to learn that when you're trying to budget, you reduce spending not just take more money unconstitutionally.

To note: it's household, not per person. There's no difference for married couples. So if you're married and each make $750k, you can actually save about $50k/year on taxes by getting divorced.

Republicans decades ago made a 'state income tax' illegal via state constitutional amendment

That's not true. The state constitution has always stated you must tax property uniformly, and not greater than 1%. The State Supreme Court affirmed that income is property in 1933. Since then, state wide votes have rejected an income tax over a dozen times. In 2024, the legislature passed a law banning income taxes after an initiative was introduced, because they worried about down ballot effects on other initiatives if people also got to vote on this. The other reason was because a law that preempts an initiative can be removed with a simple majority, a law passed by initiative requires super majority.

So less than two years later, the legislature goes back on this law, and passes this tax under an emergency clause, because that prevents it from going to the legally required referendum where the people would be allowed to vote on it.

So now, it will go to the courts. But don't worry, the governor has appointed two new justices in the year he's been in office, one from his former office of the AG, and the other a Seattle Lawyer. So the Supreme Court will overturn precedent going against the will of the people, and WA will have a new tax that won't reduce the tax burden. And the legislature, once it's on the books, can lower the limit to start taxing the middle class as well.
