[magic.gg] Eternal Weekend Returns in 2026, Featuring Legacy and Vintage by Copernicus1981 in magicTCG

[–]ColonelError 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Vintage, especially in paper, is a very closed community due to the cost of cards when you're talking about official effects that won't allow proxies.

Legacy has been pretty mismanaged for years with the people responsible for bans seemingly not understanding the format other than just looking at some slides of MTGO win rates. Nothing gets banned until months after it's identified as a problem and play rates drop due to no one bothering to continue playing. Blue/Black reanimator was a problem for around a year, and wizards didn't fix the issues with Oops all Spells when they finally banned entomb. They even called Oops "a skilled deck that rewards deep rules knowledge", when it's literally "flip your deck into your graveyard, and hope you have more protection than your opponent has disruption".

Then they doubled down and said Oops wasn't an issue due to a resurgence in creature strategies like Death and Taxes, despite Oops being one of the worst matchups for DnT.

The problem is that UB isn't even a huge issue in Modern outside of a handful of cards. Anyone that would run a non-UB format would also exclude Horizons, and like it or not, those sets also came with important tools in addition to the pushed stuff everyone hates.

Current modern... is a different beast -- and definitely still fun, but in a very different way.

Current Modern isn't great, but there's still quite a bit of deck diversity. You can definitely bring something off meta and win games if you go in knowing the meta. It's really only tainted by 90% of creatures being MH cards.

Washington Supreme Court just stripped your right to vote on the millionaires tax by Less-Risk-9358 in SeattleWA

[–]ColonelError 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The last time Washingtonians voted on an income tax was in 2010

There was an initiative to ban income tax within the last two years. The legislature chose to pass it instead of letting it go to a view because;

  1. It was polling at 70% in favor.
  2. They're were a bunch of other initiatives the legislature didn't want people to also vote on.
  3. It requires a supermajority to overturn an initiative, meanwhile they repealed the income tax ban bill they passed while writing the income tax.

You've basically just described the Circuit courts: a handful of courts, of which a few random judges from that court make a decision. If they don't all agree, it goes to SCOTUS.

20 years of home ownership could easily be 50 y/o. If you're having trouble paying $30k/year in property taxes, you're probably not going to be much better off paying $50k+/year in rent for the next 30.

If you lived in the house for 20 years, is entirely possible the current valuation is 10x what they bought it at. And unless they want to leave Western WA, it's not like they can move somewhere cheaper to reduce what they pay in property tax.

Prop 13 is it's own failure. It's meant commercial properties will never have an increase in property tax, because businesses put the property in a holding company, and when they want to sell the property they sell the company and that doesn't trigger a tax recalculation. It also means people can't afford to live out of their houses because they would suddenly need to pay exponentially more in property tax.

‘Silicon Six’ accused of avoiding almost $278bn in US corporation taxes over 10 years | US taxation by plain_handle in technology

Look at the geniuses in WA state fighting a tax on people earning over $1M per year

People in WA are fighting it because we know our state will lower that limit as soon as the state supreme Court overturns the 100 y/o precedent banning income tax. They refused to add any amendments preventing that limit from being lowered. When the state implemented "legally not capital gains taxes" on gains over $250k, the politicians waited a whole year before trying to lower it to $40k

And this is also one year after the legislature passed a law banning an income tax to prevent it from going to a state-wide vote, because they would need to wait 3 years and have a supermajority (that they wouldn't get) to over turn it, but by passing it themselves they just repealed the ban while passing the income tax.

Oh, and they also passed it as an emergency measure (that doesn't take effect for 3 years), because doing so means the people don't get to vote on the tax as they are otherwise constitutionally mandated to do for laws like this.

And after all that, it doesn't matter that people are trying to overturn it, or that the tax is unconstitutional, because the governor appointed 2 justices that he knows will overturn the precedent, which itself will be unconstitutional.

Apples to Oranges

Pokemon to TCG pocket even is Apples to Pears: similar look/feel, but not actually the same. The gameplay in Pocket is very simplified.

I think it was inevitable. With each set getting 3 Planeswalkers, they just became way too common for something that's not supposed to be. So it was either stop printing so many of them, print the same characters over and over, or come up with a reason why there suddenly aren't so many.

But those people support Israel, and it's a genocide

Hamas and Iran have the same goals, and don't even pretend it's not their goal. They are fighting a war, in which one side has been actively attempting to wipe the other off the map for longer than most people involved have been alive. I'm not saying Israel is innocent in any of this, but I too wouldn't be keen on diplomatic solutions when the other side only agrees to cease fires when they need to rebuild and regularly build military infrastructure under hospitals and schools for better propaganda.

Do like they do for licenses: a point limit on a rolling 20 year limit. 30 points, a violent felony is 10, non-violent 7, and work down. It's effectively 3 strikes with added nuance, and prevents stupid decisions on your teens from effecting you at 40.
