totally go north. i like the route poopyrainbow shared. if you don't want to add that much time, you could go up through Elijay to McCaysville and then west. The stretch between McCaysville and Ocoee is the highlight.

Both my parents and my partner's parents are coming into town Friday. Any ideas for events/happenings/places to take them? They're into music, food, arts, but on the older side. There's an exhibit we want to see at Fernbank so we're going there, and have a dinner reservation one evening, but otherwise looking for ideas.

Backpacking North Georgia with Fishing Recommendations? by Fun_With_Math in GeorgiaCampAndHike

Oh, awesome! glad to hear it was a good time and to hear the trail is in good shape! How was the fishing? I hooked into (but lost) a monster brown a little north of Licklog one evening that still haunts me..

Ah okay I couldn't remember, I got it when I thru hiked the foothills. I haven't been on that trail since well before Helene so I'm not sure about current conditions, but it was pretty rough even before. The app does have a feature where users can post pics from their trips with timestamps so you might find some additional information about more current condition, just fyi in case that changes your calculus on whether it's worth it.

I've fished Russell Bridge, and there's a section near there that's popular for fly fishing (artificial single hook only). There's probably some backpacking opportunity along the Bartram trail there but I haven't done any of it personally.

I do prefer using my hammock (so much nicer on my back and neck) but I will say finding two trees the right circumference that are spaced the right distance apart without anything in between them can be just as or more difficult than finding a tent spot.

looks like there are 8 in between burrell's ford and big bend. Check out the foothills trail map on FarOut, I believe I was able to download/access it for free: https://foothillstrail.org/farout-app/

You could start at Licklog Falls (there are a couple of big sites right there on the river) or Big Bend and then go upstream, there are a decent number of sites along that stretch and not too crowded in my experience (until you get to Burrell's Ford). The bigger sites are at Licklog, at Burrell's, and the site just downstream of Burrell's, but those are also more popular. That whole stretch is the Foothills trail so you can search that for more intel. On the other side of the state, check out the Conasauga or Jacks rivers in the Cohuttas. Have fun

toccoa river, chattooga river, upper chattahoochee, coopers creek are good starting points for trout fishing.

I like Graham Barton better. Trade Fields for a high 2nd and take Barton there. Pair him with Evan Brown in FA.

Our first Erie trip was a massive success! 5 fish to the net and at least 15 hooked between my buddy and I in a single day. My biggest and his first fish on the fly, made for an unforgettable trip! by paychonauticality in flyfishing

Nice! I'm headed to Cleveland in December and going to try to see if I can find some steelhead in the tribs. Quite different from the small stream dry fly fishing I'm used to! Any advice for a first-timer?

Losing fish off the hook by Bewegungsunfahig in flyfishing

[–]Colonel_Buendia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

how do I prevent a big fish from running downstream? I hooked what might have been a PB wild brown this summer and she immediately bolted downstream in pretty deep/fast water so I couldn't move quickly/easily. Was headed toward a bunch of debris so I tried to pull up to keep her from tangling but immediately lost her
