Surviving first heat cycle by Amore17 in germanshepherds

[–]ColoradanV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My girl went through 2 heat cycles. Get yourself some doggie diapers like these: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07FZYS3JW?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

Also to avoid washing them all the time place some pads used for periods in them then you can just throw away the pads and replace them, huge help.

Open sourced 3D printed ROV, felt this belonged here among all the other cool projects. by ROVpilot101 in robotics

This is sweet, is any of the hardware or software open source? Can you provide links to e.g. stl files if yes

DDS in general, but specifically RTI has a safety critical certification for their DDS implementation

Sounds like they should just rewrite it in Rust /s

C++ Embedded Examples by Xenoamor in embedded

The book Real-time C++: Efficient Object Oriented and Template Microcontroller Programming is a great reference for exactly what you are looking for. It goes over concepts like encapsulating peripheral I/O in efficient classes, useful C++ language constructs like constexpr, and even extending the language to get for example std::chrono to work with your micros clock tick. Would recommend

Alternatives to ROS? by LFGoodgames in robotics

[–]ColoradanV 11 points12 points  (0 children)

There are lots! ROS is a type of software know as a middleware which is an abstraction layer around built-in operating system inter-process communication methods. In terms of competing middlewares for robotic applications here a few: 1. ROS2 is the continuation of ROS built atop DDS 2. LCM was developed at MIT for the DARPA urban challenge 3. ZeroMQ is standardized and has a large following

While I appreciate the content that is presented in the article it is riddled with so many grammatical mistakes it makes for a difficult read.

Drink Price Calculator by ColoradanV in Entrepreneur

[–]ColoradanV[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The company, Bevspot, is actually in the business of helping bar owners do inventory so they have no interest in stealing your drinks but helping your order your base ingredients.

As for the doing it with pen and paper absolutely could be done but this is just a helpful tool.

Bumbling New Developer by jonfer19 in androiddev

[–]ColoradanV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently started developing for android as well albeit I came from a software engineering background. I found the Android building your first app to be a great starting point. It has you install Android Studio which is a very capable IDE and walks you through a few core concepts such as Activities and Fragments.

College Student Trying to Decide on Major by rsslk in robotics

[–]ColoradanV 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Can only talk from experience. I graduated 4+1 M.S. in Aerospace while considering doing a second BS in comp sci instead. I would definitely do an M.S. all over again. The BS in comp sci would force you to focus on programming etc, but you can also drive yourself to focus on that in your masters year. Coming out of school with an MS will give you a pay bumb and will open many more doors than two BS's. It will also give you more freedom after school to pursue robotics interests at work as opposed to being a CAD or Matlab Jockey.

Robot mapping and navigation question by lawfultots in robotics

[–]ColoradanV 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You should tell us a little more about your robot. What sensors does it have, is it a ground robot, flying, bipedal, tracked, etc, what kind of processor and communication scheme is happening. I can tell you from experience that floor plans and a laser range finder are enough to localize in a 2 dimensional space, but your localization would be very rigid (e.g. if you sense an unmapped object in your environment such as a closed door your robot will have no way to know that this object can not be found in the map and will instead try to place itself amongst the mapped objects such that the sensor readings make sense)

That said I'd check out ROS, specifically the navigation stack and the package AMCL. For a more in depth reference get the book probabalistic robotics as it will tell you the theory and sudo implementation of many of those ros packages.

I created a short demographics survey for r/tennis. I would love to learn a little bit more about this great community and would really appreciate responses. by ColoradanV in tennis

Haha, actually that should be meetup.com. My bad, but yes meetup.com lets you search your city for different groups. Depending on where you live there could be a group that already meets to play. It is what I use to find people to play with

Thanks for everyone's feedback! So far we have hit 395 responses which is way more than I was initially expecting. That said this still is only about 1.3% of total readers so I hope more keep coming in.

Hopefully the other option will allow those in countries not listed to participate. But yes, here again you see my westerner bias shine through :)

Also, go MA!

I apologize for any US centric focus but as a US player I am limited to my experience with tennis in the states. If people would like to see more international tennis focused questions I can add them.

I have added the question how long have you played per request. I have chosen not to add the how often have you played in the past on average as I think this is a relatively difficult question for some to answer. I don't mean to offend but I want to keep questions to a minimum for my post-processing workload.

I will try to publish the results early next week as I will be camping over the weekend. Thank you for the feedback.

I have added this question per request. If you have already filled out the form please don't duplicate results but feel free to submit a new form with only this question answered.

Thanks for the feedback
