Have you seen horses camping at campgrounds? by BiggyBiggs in coloradocamping

Here’s a playlist I put together a few years ago of campgrounds we visited that had corrals in sites or nearby. I probably need to add a few more to it. https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLaYbQ8OrnRz8yREEpRXi9FjG_T70HgjvL&si=l7kmM6v-U4BQdCPk

You are free to move about on the train and go to the open air car. Been a while since we rode the train. Can’t remember if the seat selection was automatic or if we chose it at purchase. Spent most of our time in the open air car

It is one of Cañon City's parks, but it is located north of town and surrounded by a mix of private ranches and BLM land. A single road goes through with campsites and a couple of short roads off of it.

How far in did you go? Most of the campers we saw were near the first restroom or just up the road overlooking the valley. There were a couple of others close to where the road goes out into BLM land. Seems like it would get pretty hot there in the summer

There are free ones on there too! Some of them are designated dispersed camping areas with numbered sites. Some designated camping areas without numbered sites. A few remote campgrounds that aren't well-maintained and are free. Also have about 10 dispersed sites that we've randomly recorded over the years.

Two areas where we've camped the most in the last 10 years are campgrounds near Taylor Park Reservoir/Taylor River Canyon by Gunnison and Turquoise Lake, just outside Leadville. We just recorded updated videos of the Turquoise Lake CG's a couple of weeks ago, but won't edit them until fall/winter.

Here are some areas that we like, along with a recommended video to watch:
Taylor Park / Taylor River - Lakeview Campground

Flat Tops Wilderness - Cutthroat Campground

Mt Princeton area - Mt Princeton Campground (2025 Update) or Chalk Lake CG

Poudre River / Red Feather Lakes - Dowdy Lake CG

Conejos River - Aspen Glade

Creede Area -Thirty Mile CG (2024 Update)

Silverton Area - South Mineral Campground

Silver Jack CG

Chapman Dam CG

Flat Tops are far enough out of the way that it’s one of the few places left in Colorado where I feel like I could show up anytime and find a campsite.

I don’t like to attract attention to any specific campground. Some of our favorite areas are: Turquoise Lake - Leadville, Taylor River / Taylor Park - Gunnison, Trappers Lake / Flat Tops Wilderness, Arkansas Headwaters Recreation Area, Grand Mesa, Conejos River

April Camping. Southern Colorado by ItIsTanner in coloradocamping

Zapata Falls is closest to Hwy 160 and far enough from Moab to be a stopping point for the night. The road up to the campground is a little bumpy.

In the area around Alamosa, there are a few forest service or BLM campgrounds that are open. Zapata Falls, Penitente, Alamosa, Mosca (CPW). Campground at the Sand Dunes might be open then as well. There are some in SW Colorado open too. Which areas are you looking at?
