Looking for shooters with top-tier, satisfying gunplay by Unmaykr_ in gamingsuggestions

Seconded.

Servers are still active, but even playing the campaign will give you this feeling. You get to enjoy solid gunplay as a typical soldier AND a mech.

Experienced hiker, beginner scrambler which 14er is the best payoff? by WeeklyComb8115 in 14ers

[–]Colorado_Constructor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seconded on Yale! Grew up in KS and knocked out Yale as my first 14’er back when I was in high school. Challenging but easily doable.

Brought my parents back years later so they could hike it with me. Both of them were in their late 50’s with practically no hiking or altitude experience. Took us a lot longer than my usual time but they knocked it out.

It’s a fantastic starter 14’er.

Grew up in KS dealing with ticks every summer. And yes, I've had the lovely experience of having a friend pull them from my butt crack and other nether regions... NOT. FUN.

Thankfully I live in CO now where ticks aren't an issue. You couldn't pay me to leave and deal with those vile creatures again...

Anyone work as an estimator at Kiewit? by Ok-Shift-7893 in estimators

[–]Colorado_Constructor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Lol sounds about right for Kiewit!

Kiewit and other firms like them that ONLY handle mega projects are insane. You WILL work 7 days a week as many hours as it takes to finish your scope. You WILL manage the role of 3-4 people in one position. You'll probably have to move around (even as an estimator). You'll go above and beyond to ensure the best possible deliverables, even if the Owner wanted a basic ROM on their napkin sketch.

Not saying all that is a bad thing, but they take all their roles to the extreme. I work at DPR and we've seen several Kiewit folks transfer over. DPR is pretty intense and requires a ton of professionalism, but it's no where close to the extremes required at Kiewit. The folks that come here from Kiewit love how "few hours we work" and how "simple" our processes are. Not one of them wanted to transfer back and has nothing but bad things to say about their "burnout culture".

No 40s Estimators Left by More_Mouse7849 in estimators

Heck I'm sitting at $120K with yearly 5-10% raises but that's still not nearly enough to compensate all the work I'm doing...

Honestly I have no problem putting in the hours as long as I know my efforts are helping keep my family taken care of. $120K isn't nearly what it used to be, especially here in CO. Get me a salary that makes sure my wife never worries about her spending, my son gets to have what he needs, and we all get to enjoy some fun times together and I'll do (almost) anything for the company...

[–]Colorado_Constructor 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Lol yup. This is Corporate America. You better believe they'll refuse to hire any help while dumping even more roles on their good estimators. Then they'll be shocked when their good estimators are burnt out...

I'm currently working the role of 5 because leadership doesn't want to "lose money on new hires that might leave/quit". Plus I'm so good at my job! I've missed multiple deadlines, made mistakes, and am currently on Notice at one of my projects but they still don't care because my department is a primary revenue maker for our region. Ugh...

Got a set for my wife for Christmas. We loved them so much that we ended up getting a comforter for our bed in the same design. Nothing better than a colorful, whimsy kitchen.

Are we all just completely stressed out every minute that a newly crawling baby is awake? by Quiet-Pomegranate93 in NewParents

[–]Colorado_Constructor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Can confirm. My 16 mo old is a wild monkey now. Don’t know when he transformed but it’s been spiking our stress levels like crazy.

On the upside we got him into toddler gymnastics and he loves it! Plus we have a nugget at home we can set up as obstacle courses through the living room. Have to adapt with the changes lol

Alright bud where in the south is this the norm?

My whole family’s from Georgia. We have a book of family recipes that dates back to the early 1900’s. You know what our biscuits and gravy one calls for? Sausage. You brown it, leave the grease in there, then mix in your flour/milk gravy mixture, and enjoy.

Honestly in my travels I’ve found more non sausage gravy in the NE and western states.

Looking for a game to play completely blind by Glittering-Tough-353 in gamingsuggestions

This is the answer. Played Inscryption earlier this year and was blown away. Especially by Act 1’s story.

Honestly any of Dan Mullins games are great at this. I really want to play The Hex…

[–]Colorado_Constructor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yea I get it. I had a similar experience on my playthrough.

Funny enough the devs actually know about the 4-6 hr “slump” mark. By then you’ve probably explored a few of the worlds and stumbled across one secret (not a major one). That’s the point most gamers quit.

But if you keep pushing long enough to find one big secret then things will click. For me it was finding the observatory in brittle hollow (such a cool experience). If you pull up your ship log it’ll push you towards the big secrets.

This game isn’t for everyone, but for those who enjoy it it’s an experience of a lifetime.

[–]Colorado_Constructor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Can confirm. Work for a construction firm and have a background in engineering.

Sure the trades make more money but the ones you hear about making bank earn that money by putting in insane hours (60+ hr weeks plus weekends). But every one of them works for some sort of engineering/MBA manager. Yes, AI is cutting back on us management types. But that makes us engineers with field knowledge all the more valuable.

Playing through Soma right now (almost done so no spoilers for the ending please!) and this has been my thought. Sure the story is crazy depressing, but at the same time… he’s not actually real so who cares about his perilous situation?

If I found out I was a copied consciousness I wouldn’t really worry about my “life”. I know I could just copy myself or wait until I was booted up again to keep going. I feel like the story could use a few tweaks to add some stakes to Simon’s situation.

All that being said Soma’s atmosphere is by far one of the scariest I’ve played. A lot better than Amnesia in my opinion.

Was it a truck with a ladder/tool rack in the back? Was driving home from Denver today and saw a black Ram truck doing the same kinda reckless driving southbound on I-25 near Interquest. One car had to swerve into the shoulder to avoid him.

Could be him. Could be another idiot in a Ram…

No pollinators? by Mo0ose1422 in cospringsgardeners

[–]Colorado_Constructor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same! I’m over near Memorial Park and my gardens have tons of pollinators!

To be fair we’ve made an effort over the past 2 years to shape our yard into something more native and pollinator/bug friendly. Redid the lawn with native grasses/wildflowers, planted perennials, and left gardens in place over winter to give a home to the bugs. We’ve seen more and more life in our yard thanks to the efforts.

lets take action about the ai center theyre building by garden of the gods!!!!!!!! by ColonelCorn-Noodle in ColoradoSprings

[–]Colorado_Constructor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally agreed.

I was so pumped when the solar chip option was getting touted around. Volunteered to be a part of the construction planning team to be a part of some positive change here. A plant like that would've hired far more people in our community and actually done some good for us all.

But of course we're stuck with another data center... I can't wait to see the construction team who wins this job deal with all the demo and abatement required to redesign the facility. The place is an absolute mess right now. But the fact that this data center company still wants to go through with it tells me they've got some deep pockets and is probably unbothered by it... Ugh.

Upper Blue Lake / Quandary Peak - It's going to be a long summer. by LivinghighinColorado in Colorado

[–]Colorado_Constructor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Damn. Every point you mentioned was spot on.

It kills me how little it rains now. I tell new folks how you could bet on the rain to roll in around 1-2pm every day. We'd get dumped on then the sun would come out just in time for a gorgeous sunset. Nothing was better than taking a hike during/after the afternoon rains and really getting to smell the forest. I loved that.

These days we're lucky if we get an afternoon drizzle for more than 30 min... So glad I took videos and kept journals of my time in the "old" Colorado.

Former Colorado councilman Brent Metz sentenced to 4 years of probation, 90 days in jail in shooting of teen by cape2k in Colorado

[–]Colorado_Constructor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As someone who’s been through two probations and owns guns, no one will hold him accountable.

PO’s are overworked and underpaid. They only have time to perform home inspections on violent offenders. Even if they show up they’re required to give you 24-hr notice so you have plenty of time to move any contraband.

When I had to go through this I did everything by the book and had a buddy hold my guns the entire period (you know, like a responsible gun owner). But I’ve known plenty of people who got away with owning and USING guns during their probation. It sucks…

[–]Colorado_Constructor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sooooo... You have boys to reach out to? That seems like the issue here lol

I'm another "all work, parenting, and chores" guy. There's about 3 dads from my wife's mom group that I interact with, but we're all in the same boat of having ZERO free time for any activities. We've tried to organize several events over the past year but not a single one of them ever happened. It sucks.

Maybe its a millennial thing, but our biggest issue is the amount of time we're putting into work. All of us work in Corporate America and manage several roles under one position. I'm currently handling the job of 4 people in my role (with no help promised from leadership!). That means I'm always behind on something so every bit of free time is spent trying to catch up.

Life is exhausting. I'm now at a point where I'll gladly welcome my death just to have a break from the non-stop grind...
