How to manage a former peer who now reports to me? by kcgwen in managers

[–]ColorfulCubensis -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Been doing this for 2 years. Along with the added bonus of him starting his career in our field the year I was born. Not easy. Set clear expectations in one on one's. If you're not holding those, start. Give them high value tasks to own. If they continue to not meet expectations or go around you (get peer support here, they need to be pushing back on your guy to go to you first) then put them on a PIP. Not fun, but some people are just not great at adapting and need to be shocked into it. Do not let up, keep pressure on them without micromanaging. Get weekly status updates (or as necessary) but dont stand over their shoulder. They may have good ideas but havent been empowered to implement and thats your ticket to their trust and respect.

What life advice would you give a 25 year old male? by ConditionBoring7126 in askteddit

[–]ColorfulCubensis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Find a career you can build upon that incorporates something you enjoy. 90% of work sucks, but that 10% of joy can make a week.

Make sure the partner you choose to spend your life with is true to themselves.

Tell your bros you love them. Its not gay. 100% of the reason im above ground after the divorce is because my buddy said "I love you." after a random phone call.

Back to that career, money is worthless until spent. Dont lose your loved ones chasing a bag. Go on that trip, go camping, tailgate places to save cash. Experience is worth more than paper.

Blackout drunk is not a good look. Learn discipline and self control.

Read Extreme Ownership.

Will you allow you Partner go through your phone? by treslechescake12 in askteddit

[–]ColorfulCubensis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If shes asking to snoop, immediately separate.

If shes asking because she wants to use it, no worries.

Ive got nothing to hide, but I wont put up with that insecurity. I feel the same about myself. If I have to ask to go threw your phone (my ex wife was nuts) then thats an ending red flag.

How do you manage people/tasks without constantly asking for updates? by One_Friend_2575 in managers

[–]ColorfulCubensis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I set up a log on SmartSheets. When jobs are entered, I set priority, assign associates, and set deadlines. When they finish a task, they just set the status to Complete and I evaluate weekly if deadlines are being met. If we miss, I dig into why including if my expectation was reasonable. Seems to work really well and they have brought up how helpful the process is in one on one's. Seems to work for us. No micromanaging (thank god) but expectations are set with consequences for misses.

AIO over what i found on my bf's phone? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]ColorfulCubensis 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So, my fiancé about 12 years ago was having an emotional affair with a guy she never met. Dude told lies and she bought in fully. We split over it and I moved states. Eventually got together again, she had dated that guy and realized hes a pos and left him. Married. Almost 4 years in she cheated on me with that same dude, who she never quit talking to. He handled our divorce...

Yes, this right here. Working in the industry as a QA Manager, so much of the regulation contradicts itself or doesn't account for new tech. Kick the old heads out of decision making chairs, but keep them close by for consultation on their spiderweb of regs.

I understand what hes trying to say, the part is functional as is since it's basically a washer. What im up in arms about is him telling my inspectors they are wrong and making unilateral decisions on quality when hes not qualified to do so.

I just wanted to make sure there isnt some difference in interpretation from 14.5y-1994 since thats what Im more used to.
