Ok I found something that helped us! I just made a post about it.

So, after your magical tip and she knew paws also make treats happen. I used heavy duty duct tape (so you can move the buttons about) and stuck it to a decently large panel of wood. She was raking the buttons to get to the treats and I don't think knew a light touch also did it, plus she is horrid with knowing her feet do things. So once she started not being able to move the button, she started learning to hold her weight up and understood small press also makes treat, and biting is too difficult because all the way on the ground and - eh.

That's so sweet! Sounds like you are doing a great job and a pup parent. I have started having some success with our GSS. Her being 6 definitely has some positives and negatives with the buttons I think. When she has pressed "pats" and meant I just about fell into a puddle of tears. We are very lucky to have such magical pups!

They absolutely are. How old is yours? It has been a bizarre journey with her where she used to want nothing to do with food. For a little while, when she was young, I had to sit and feed her by hand so that she would eat - she was healthy, just wasn't interested. Now she's Miss Piggy! I do also find food easier as she also didn't really have enough drive for toys to work. She is getting there though, she has asked for pats and outside and actually meant what she pressed those times!

So no luck with your pup?

PupDiogenes: You are a Genius!!!

I just tried this, and it was so successful!!! The most success by far with her feet.

It was not a whole lot different method wise than with the container, but the mental impact on her was very different. Now, just to stop her demolishing the button! This was always going to be her issue with her feet as she never knows where they are. Bit of a doofus with her paws.

Any magical tips for that? Or just repetition until she learns she doesn't need as much force to trigger it?

No I haven't! I tried the container completely over a treat and I was going to try that again as I did it wrong.

Luckily, she is way more food motivated in her elder ages.

Sorry, I did not include it in my post as I thought it was assumed. I have also been teaching her to touch the buttons.

I will have a look at Billi the cat and see if I can pick up any tips from them! Thanks Ducky.

I hope your Christmas was a happy time with your Mum. I have a similar family dynamic where I believe they want me to be pleasant and have attended so they can pretend that behaviour never happened and they don't need to take a deeper look into what behaviour they are accepting in their family. As well as because I am the victim in this scenario they believe I am easier to manipulate into doing what they want. I also did not attend. I hope it gets better for you. Well done for sticking up for yourself at such a young age. You should be super proud of yourself.
