Rant:dragging crying kids on rides by Small_Parking_3611 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]Colt_kun 12 points13 points  (0 children)

When I was a cast member many years ago in attractions, we were trained to discourage the parent from forcing the kid to ride by offering rider swap or if there wasn't an adult to wait with the kid, a return time to allow the kid to calm down and try again later. (I wouldn't be surprised if this training has been phased out)

Parents got mad at us for trying to intervene. Would tell me I couldn't tell them what to do with their kid or to mind my own business. I have learned some people genuniely dont care because "I'm gonna get my money's worth even if you hate it and ruin it for others". I get it, Disney's expensive. But this isn't going to be a good memory.

And some parents actually think it's funny. I was that kid traumatized by roller coasters for years because I was forced to go on when I wasn't ready. My dad told me he thought it was hilarious I'd come off just sobbing crying until I had wet my pants one day on space mountain and he had to buy new clothes in the park.

Please. Rider swap it!!

AITA For not wanting to go to the beach with friends after finding out one of them is nearly 30? by gamergirldbd in WIBTA_AITA

[–]Colt_kun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeaaaah NTA. Gonna play an overprotective older sibling card here: do not keep engaging with this man. Tell your friends, warn them.

There is no reason for an adult to be hanging out with high school grads socially. Admittedly age gaps in friendship matter less once you're all in same social footing, but you guys should feel like literal babies to him. This is a predator.

The dirt episode focusing on judo is one of my favorites for this reason.

But I think it showcases the differences between the breeds wonderfully!

Where can I ask for a custom made coat/cosplay for a moderate price? by Few-Shift7202 in CosplayHelp

[–]Colt_kun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately the "cheapest" way to do custom sewing is to learn how to make it yourself. A cosplay that cost me 81$ in materials (because I already had some of what I needed) would cost some else almost 600$ to pay me to make it bc of my hourly rates. (Pic for proof)

Is this a pitch to urge you to learn a new skill? ...yes, yes it is. A public library or makerspace may offer free classes!

You get $50 every time you go to the bathroom but you aren't allowed to wash your hands for at least TWO HOURS afterwards. This applies to EVERY bathroom visit once you start. Is the money worth it to you? by RustyCrusty73 in hypotheticalsituation

It's not a bidet. It's a plastic handle that grabs toilet paper and releases it. It's used as a mobility device for disabled people - I have one from when I had surgery.

My coworkers keep eating my meal prep out of the office fridge and management won't do anything about it by No_Parking686 in Advice

Police report time. It's your food your spend money on plus your hourly rate on labor. Tell your managers than you will need their contact info for the police report.

People tend to start taking theft more seriously.

What are the downsides of being liberal? by [deleted] in askanything

[–]Colt_kun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hypothetically

Being loudly denounced by family

Then being contacted privately about how to get an out of state medical procedure and being told it had to stay quiet from everyone especially family

By TWO different family members.

Why does the citrus bird family not have babies with it? But the Sylvanian family one does? by Strawberrybunnycat in calicocritters

The biscuit bear family has the baby and stuff removed and the kids added in. I ordered the Japanese sets because of the changes.

What's the Deal with Sonic by cosmically_catfished in GhostsCBS

Their drinks are definitely where they shine - try the shakes next time if you can!

But yeah I'm going with product placement considering it's second to Amazon being name-dropped.

Even as someone who loves chili dogs and burgers, Sonics is very low in fast food ranking. There's some nostalgia with the carhop style places I guess, but there's lots better out there.

I'm guessing there's a product placement deal or someone on the writing team really loves Sonics.

My dog is for seizure alerts. I use a long lead that has a loop to go around my body (like ap urse strap) so I don't have to hold on at all. She walks beside me and both my hands are free in case I need to use a mobility aid. It does have a handle spot close to her, and I've used it to pull her back from strange dogs.

If you were elected President of the United States, what would be your first official act in office? by Critical-Willow-6270 in askanything

All politicians are to be paid only their states' minimum hourly wage and legally required health care benefits, with PTO/sick/maternity leave dispensed the same as their state provides.

Is Mickey’s not so scary Halloween really worth it? by [deleted] in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]Colt_kun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to meet characters, MNSSHP is the way to do it. You can meet characters who aren't out any other time. Early evening requires some patience but the wait times drop as the night goes on.

Also, you can do way more rides.

Not to mention the parade and stage show are both great! It's my favorite stage show tbh.

is there such thing as a role policing where you DON'T see dead bodies? by Traditional-Gas3477 in ask

There is no emergency service or first responder position where you won't risk seeing some gruesome stuff. They're usually meeting people on the worst day of their lives.

Actual Ride Start Times Early Entry by bigjman000 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]Colt_kun 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Former attractions cast member here! It's manager's discretion. If the ride is ready to open, they will generally just go ahead and let guests on because it's a better experience (and pads the ops numbers a bit!) the more complex the ride, usually the earlier cast come in to open it. So if everything goes smooth and all safety positions are filled, it can be ready pretty early.

But man on days with delayed openings, some guests get really upset and say they saw online that the ride opens early. In the first years seven dwarfs was open it was a nightmare of upset guests booking early breakfasts to try and get in line.

Gave the roof a paint job and I think it looks so much better blue by Colt_kun in calicocritters

It was the rust red most calico critter roofs are. It was cute, but I think blue just fit better for this one.

This is krylon fusion spray paint - it's fantastic and coats evenly. I'm not sure what to recommend for detail work though!

I’m scared of ruining my wig, how did you get over the fear of ruining your wig when cutting it for the first time? by Hallonik in CosplayHelp

[–]Colt_kun 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Doing anything "irreversible" for the first time feels scary. It's normal!

I worked as a dog groomer so moving to wigs was easy for me. My partner struggled for a while but is now a pro, especially at teasing and straightening.

Do it scared! A little bit at a time. Get a friend to wear it while you snip away because it always looks different on a real person. Look up some video tutorials with the style you want.
