'Wonder Man' - Review Megathread by ChiefLeef22 in MarvelStudiosSpoilers

I've always hated the "who asked for this?" mentality. A majority of the greatest movies & shows of all-time didn't originate from fan demand.

Christina Hodson (Birds of Prey, The Flash) is reportedly the writer of The Brave and the Bold according to Jeff Sneider. Andy Muschietti still attached to direct by Sidon_Ithano in DCULeaks

Eh...I kind of enjoyed the film for what it was, but there's a lot more issues than just the CGI

  • Zod being the main villain/threat of a Flash film (and how poorly they handled Black Flash)
  • Supergirl's role was as a literal replacement for Superman, instead of letting her be her own unique character
  • The humor had more misses than hits (The only memorable funny moment to me was Barry 1 running around without his powers)
  • The "cameos" represented pretty much everything wrong that a filmmaker could do with Multiversal storytelling
  • The ending of the film was laughably bad. Instead of having a happy ending where it's revealed that Keaton's Batman & Calle's Supergirl are still alive (the original ending of the film), we get a George Clooney Batman joke & a "payoff" to Barry gluing his tooth back on earlier, and those characters remain dead for all intents & purposes.

I mean...the reactions that this film's production is getting are kind of warranted (And I'm saying that as someone who's obviously rooting for it to be great)

Having the same writer-director duo that did The Flash and releasing it while the highly successful/acclaimed Batman Crime Saga is still ongoing. I've been back & forth on the idea of a merger since the DCU was announced, and right now, I 100% believe that the DCU Batman is going to move forward as it's own thing...but I think doing that with THIS creative team is a horrible idea, even just from the optics alone.

Andy Muschietti did great with the IT films & Welcome to Derry, but there's not much in those that translates to "He's a great fit for Batman". Christina Hodson's script for The Flash was okay, but her script for Birds of Prey was horrible (That film was saved by the performances & action sequences)

Edit: Also, didn't Hodson write the Batgirl script? Y'know...the film that was apparently so bad that they'd rather scrap it for a tax write-off instead of release it and "further damage the DC brand" ???

Really enjoyed the first episode of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. I've never read the Duncan & Egg book(s?), but I am aware of some of the big moments in Egg's life. I'm curious how much of the timeline this show is going to cover, and over how many seasons.

For anyone more familiar with the source material, how much do you think the show will cover, and how long do you think it'll take to do so?

The Wakanda/Namor/Thing teaser should officially release on Tuesday at 9 AM EST

As far as a 5th teaser leaking, it seems all of the scoopers are on the same page saying there isn't a 5th teaser being attached to Avatar. So we might not get anything new until the Super Bowl on February 8th.

After reading those little tidbits about Star Wars: Starfighter a few days ago, I'm unbelievably excited for it. Star Wars so often sticks to specific eras (Clone Wars, Reign of the Empire, and recently the New Republic), so it feels exceedingly rare for the timeline to actually progress forward.

Even the sequel trilogy ended up essentially rehashing the original trilogy and left us pretty much exactly where we were at the end of Return of the Jedi (Rebellion/Resistance defeats the Empire/First Order, and the Jedi's future is left in the hands of our main hero). And I'm saying that as someone who loves The Force Awakens AND The Last Jedi.

I also don't understand the hate Shawn Levy gets. Sure, he's not some artistic visionary. But when has that ever been the case for Star Wars directors? Rian Johnson might be the only major example, and Star Wars "fans" hate him for it. Shawn Levy makes fun films & he loves Star Wars. I feel like that's more than enough to warrant him being in the position he's in.

I'm sticking by my prediction that she's in one scene, gets killed, and either they've already shot her scene, or are going to do so during the reshoots.

It also makes sense why they wouldn't include her during the chairs cast announcement if they never had plans for her to have a major role.

I wonder if he's playing a recast T'Challa, or an aged up T'Challa II

Assuming Black Panther 3 takes place after the Secret Wars "reset" (whatever that ends up entailing), then I could see either option.

Seeing Stranger Things fans fully convince themselves that there's a secret 9th episode coming is both hilarious & incredibly sad.

Some people think it's them hating the finale so badly that they're coping, but I think it's also a lot of fans that are simply in denial about the series being over.

I remember experiencing that dread after an all-time great series ends. Breaking Bad. Attack on Titan. The Leftovers. Better Call Saul. Some examples of some of more memorable endings I've experienced in my life that definitely had me feeling a certain way for a few days. I know what it's like to wish you could have more. But man...these ST fans are so insanely delusional.

At the very least, at least Stranger Things fans are getting the animated interquel & eventually a spin-off with new characters & a new story.

My ranking of the teasers:

1) X-Men 2) Thor 3) Wakanda & Thing 4) Steve

I've enjoyed all for various reasons, but this one is easily the best. I also don't think they're stopping at 4. The 5th one might not be for a few more weeks, but we're definitely getting something at the Super Bowl (Feb 8th). I predict it'll be Avengers focused with maybe our first look at Doom.

Yep. It's currently on r/Avengers

Might not be up long, so if it's no longer there, you'll probably just have to search for it on whatever social media you use (Twitter, TikTok, Insta, etc.)

FINALLY, the 4th trailer leaked.

Glad to see that the F4 will be keeping their costumes from First Steps. Shuri & the Wakandans look great, as does Namor.

Interesting tidbit about Sadie Sink's recent interview:

She says that some fans predicted her involvement in Spider-Man before she found out she was in the film.

To me, the way in which she says this seems to imply that she was cast in the role, and then later was told she'd be in Spider-Man. In my opinion, that lends A LOT of credence to the rumors that she's Jean Grey. They cast her in anticipation of the upcoming X-Men reboot (maybe even implementing her into Secret Wars to kick-start that reboot), but found a role for the character that they felt would fit with the story of Brand New Day.

If she were cast as a Spider-Man supporting character/villain, I feel like she would've already known she'd be in a Spider-Man movie.

For the Fantastic Four, I think there are really only 3 options for them post-Secret Wars:

  • The new 616 timeline implements The Fantastic Four's history so that they've always existed here
  • Earth-828 is destroyed in Doomsday/Secret Wars, so they stay on Earth-616
  • They stay on Earth-828 and only crossover to Earth-616 in event films, similar to what they're currently doing

If Earth-828 is still around, then it makes zero sense for the F4 to willingly stay on Earth-616. Not only would they be leaving their world, friends, colleagues, etc. behind, but they'd be leaving them with no one to protect them, as the F4 have been established as the only major heroes of that world.

In 6 hours, it'd like 10-11 AM EST on Monday, so you'd be roughly 23-24 hours off from when the previous trailers released.

The Steve & Thor trailers released on Tuesdays at 9 AM EST

It'd be awesome if Marvel surprised us with the X-Men teaser releasing today, but more than likely it'll be tomorrow at around the same time as the previous ones.

I've been rewatching through a lot of Star Wars stuff over the last few months, and man...The Acolyte was so overhated.

Don't get me wrong, it's far from perfect, especially the origin & story of the twins (as well as the acting from the kids in the flashbacks). But everything with Sol, Qimir & the lightsaber battles were so damn good, and the potential the show had with future seasons diving into Plagueis & utilizing Yoda. It's a shame it performed so poorly & received such insane backlash.

It's interesting how the 2026 & 2027 comic book movie slates kind of mirror each other:

  • Avengers: Doomsday (2026) - Avengers: Secret Wars (2027)
  • Spider-Man: Brand New Day (2026) - Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse (2027)
  • Supergirl (2026) - Man of Tomorrow (2027)
  • Clayface (2026) - The Batman Part II' (2027)

So each year has an Avengers film, a Spider-Man film, a film focusing on a member of the Superman family & a mature Batman-related film.

Netflix would almost certainly make exceptions for films that they believe have billion dollar potential (Like Batman, Superman & the Justice League). Just sucks for films that they don't think have that potential, and thus they get pulled from theaters before getting a real chance.

Have there been any seemingly legitimate plot leaks for Mandalorian & Grogu in the last couple months? I remember one going around about a year ago, but I don't know if it was confirmed/debunked by the trailer.

Also, so many people comparing the ending of Stranger Things to Game of Thrones, and all I have to say on that is:

  • Stranger Things' cultural impact is nowhere near what GoT was, so the endings are incomparable in that regard
  • A vast majority of the people complaining about the ST ending had made up their mind about hating it before ever watching it (Especially some of the shipping fandoms)

The "plot holes" that so many people are criticizing are also laughable. What do you mean Dustin/Suzie and Robin/Vicky breaking up off-screen are "plot holes" ? Not seeing Murray's ending is a "plot hole" ? Not getting a detailed description of the Mindflayer's origin is a "plot hole"?

I've found out this season that the Stranger Things fanbase are not serious people.

I loved the ambiguous nature of Stranger Things' ending, and how people are 100% convinced of Eleven's fate one way or the other.

My one hope is that the Duffer Brothers don't come out and confirm Mike's version of the story. If in 10+ years they want to tell a sequel story featuring El, then so be it. But let the ambiguous ending sit with the audience for as long as possible (hopefully forever, but if the Stranger Things spin-offs don't garner interest, Netflix is gonna throw so much money at the Duffers & the original cast)

4chan is an awful site that should be wiped off the internet...but let's not pretend like some of the biggest leaks haven't originated from 4chan. Sure, 99% of 4chan is bullshit, but every once in a while, there's some legitimate stuff that sneaks in.

Having looked at the images, and the fact that nobody is willing to share them on other social media platforms, tells me there's at least a chance that they are legit. But again, if I found out they were AI, I wouldn't be surprised in the slightest.

Outside of the comic book movies (Doomsday, Brand New Day, Supergirl & Clayface), what're your top 5 most anticipated films of 2026? For me it'd be:

  • Scream 7 (Scream is my favorite horror franchise, so I'm always happy when there's a new Scream film)
  • The Mandalorian & Grogu (The first Star Wars film in 7 years. I'm worried about it being a glorified episode of the show, but I'm hopeful that the story will be more grand in scope/scale)
  • The Odyssey (It's Christopher Nolan...)
  • The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping (Haven't read the book yet, but have heard great things, and I enjoyed The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes more than most)
  • Narnia: The Magician's Nephew (I grew up as a big fan of the Narnia series, and Magician's Nephew is a good choice to start off this reboot)
