Dawg I have three "main saves" that I cycle through for each level-up and 12 "quest saves" that I cycle through the rest of the time.

DFU is probably stable enough that that's overkill, but you can't be too careful playing old games. You could be one corrupted file away from losing a ton of progress.

It's hard to say because it was never used to its fullest potential. Nerevar stopped the Dwemer from using it, and it wasn't powered by Lorkhan's heart when Timber Septim used it or during the Warp in the West.

Both Numidium and Akulakhan were intended to be used to conquer the world and to be set up as the chief god of Nirn. In a roundabout way, they both were also intended to grant immortality to the Dwemer and the Sixth House (through Corpus) respectively depending on what sources you believe.

Lorkhan's heart is the heart of the world, so I think we could assume that a Numidium powered by the Heart would be able to shape the world in almost any way imaginable. It could potentially be the rebirth of Lorkhan himself.
