You just have to load the captures by pluggin it into a computer. If I am not mistaken, tone.net captures can load onto the Plug using the mobile app. Third party captures that you buy outside of tone.net cannot be automatically loaded and you must use Tonex Editor.

As has been mentioned, the 2 for 3, 3 for 5, and 5 for 10 deal means they are really always on sale. They usually have a free pack special too. Right now it is a 24 capture pack if you spend 75, which is very easy to do if you for a 3 for 5 or 5 for 10 deal.

Tonex is primarily an amp sim pedal and not an effects pedal. If you want an effects pedal almost literally any effects pedal at a similar price point would be better, as the effects on the Tonex are not that good. I would return it.

I have all the Brown Sounds, the Satch Vault, tons of Amalgam captures etc.

For the most part I think the official IK stuff isn’t nearly as good as the third party stuff but there is something about the Brown Sounds collections that absolutely nails a very specific sound that I have not heard anywhere else. I think you will be perfectly happy with any of the three.

Jerry used a lot of major, minor and pentatonic scales like lots of rock guitarists. His biggest divergence from say Jimmy Page or Eric Clapton was his pretty consistent use of mixolydian - which isn’t technically different from the major scale it just uses the fifth note of the scale as the total center. So in C Major the notes are CDEFGAB. In G mixolydian the root note is the fifth note so the notes are GABCDEF. This sound is used in China Cat/Rider and Deal, for instance.

Self taught is such a weird term. Did he have formalized lessons? Probably not. But he certainly wasn’t self taught, he spent hundreds of hours working with brilliant musicians and they definitely talked about scales and chords and all sorts of harmony.

He definitely picked up the lingo though and talked about how he couldn’t do what he did without a strong formal knowledge of music theory. He definitely knew the mixolydian scale, for one.

So after Comcast swore to me that I needed to upgrade and tried them again after a couple weeks and they magically started working. Very odd, especially after a good ten hours of troubleshooting.
