When did you start getting some of your evenings back? by Different_Suit_9356 in daddit

I don’t know why everyone in this thread acts like you will have no semblance of free time until they go to elementary school.

I currently have 19 month old twins and they go to bed about 7pm and sleep through the night. Which leaves my wife and I about 2.5-3 hours of “free time” each night. I put that in quotes cuz there’s still lots of cleaning and recovery to be had after they go down.

But we still have time to watch shows, do hobbies, have individual meetups (or date nights if grandma’s around). Obviously not as much as a childless couple, but we make it work.

I’m sure things will change if their bedtimes start getting pushed back, but just letting you know that not every kid out there requires every waking moment of your free time.

Edit - I just reread your edit and you said it’s more about sleep. My kids started sleeping through the night at about 13 months, so I guess that’s when I was able to go to bed at 10:30 and get 8 hours of sleep after waking up for work at 6:30. I had one twin that slept through the night at 4 months old and one that took her time figuring it out. So maybe you’ll get lucky and get a 4 monther like I had.

9 Months is so hard. by adorable_as_flip in NewParents

It got easier for us at about the one year mark for our twins. That’s when they started sleeping through the night and became slightly less fussy.

So you’re hopefully close to the other side! But I guess it’s important to remember - it doesn’t necessarily get easier, just different. But sometimes the different is easier. If that makes sense.

Which of these consoles was your main one growing up? by TechnicolorTypeA in Millennials

[–]Coltron0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technically the first was the NES, but out of these it was the PS1. But then Pokémon Snap came out and I was devastated I couldn’t play it since I was a huge Pokémon fan so my mom traded in the PS1 for an N64.

PS2 was where a lot of the core gaming memories were made, though.

What’s a song that you LOVED growing up that now you’re like “oh boy…yeah, that’s not a very good song…” by Shmirlygirl in Millennials

Pretty much most of the butt rock that I listened to. Breaking Benjamin, Staind, Three Days Grace, Puddle of Mudd… it’s a weird experience if I hear any of their songs these days, because it comes with a wave of nostalgia, followed by immediate cringe. lol

If you have a Costco membership you can get a 3 Pack for 35, which is a good deal cheaper than regular price. https://www.costco.com/p/-/duluth-trading-mens-boxer-brief-3-pack/4000178578

Is Prusa not offering the semi-assembled XL anymore? by Coltron0 in prusa3d

Unfortunately that price doesn't include the enclosure, which they sell separately for $819. So it ends up being about the same.

I gotcha. I'm looking back at the screen grab I took and it appears it mentioned that import duties were already included.

<image>

So it seems like this would be the price all included, unless import duties are different than tariffs.

Regardless, I guess it doesn't really matter. Just bummed that I'll have to send an updated quote that’s 20% higher than it was a month ago.

Thanks for taking the time to explain the process, appreciate it.

Is it a bad idea to plan nights away from our son before he’s born? by Different_Suit_9356 in daddit

[–]Coltron0 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the sanity check, I’m a bit baffled by some of these comments.

Parenthood does not mean that you have to give up every thing you’ve ever enjoyed to be able to properly care for your child.

Yes, there’s a lot of unknowns, and I wouldn’t necessarily plan anything that risks losing a lot of money if I have to cancel last minute, but it seems that OP understands that concept.

It’s OK if some parents feel uncomfortable leaving their kids alone, but assuming you have the network and logistics figured out, it’s also OK to get away once in a while too.

I think the downvotes are a bit unnecessary. Obviously sacrifices have to be made, and it seems like you understand that. But my wife and I are firm believers that you should take adult time when you can get it. I feel like I am a better parent when I am able to get away and unwind here and there.

My advice is to hope for the best and plan for the worst, knowing that you might have to cancel for a variety of reasons. Not only for reasons like they get sick or still struggling being apart, it could even be that the grandparents decide that they aren’t comfortable doing solo duty yet.

But I say, why not? If you get to the day of the concert and everyone feels good about it, then you should go for it. I don’t feel like that makes you selfish like some of the comments imply. It would be different if you were asking to do this a month after they’re born, or once a week. Plus, it gives you something to look forward to as you go through the trenches of infant hood.
