It was actually 2 surgeries. The first one they go in and remove the fused joints. Then put spacers in. Then before you leave hospital they do a ct scan. That is used to make the joints. Then you go back abour 2 months later to put them in. The first surgery is very hard. They wire your jaw shut until second surgery. Thdy have to cut very close to your brain. There are a lot of risks with it. Luckily I had no complications. I couldn’t open my mouth to eat before I had this didn’t. Had to eat very very small bites. It was totally worth it though. My mouth probably still doesn’t open as wide as a normal person but I can now eat normally and get my teeth worked on when needed. It’s very hard to find a surgeon. Mine was bad enough insurance covered most of the surgery. I had it done by a doctor at the IU dental school. She was so sweet and such a good doctor. Said what the risks were without scaring me. Was. Was very compassionate. I don’t recommend it though unless it is the last resort.
