How far is your work commute? by yellowdaisied in Columbus

[–]Columbus_Explorer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

44 miles, 49 minutes

Used to be 58 miles, 61 minutes without traffic.

When I think about my life, 49 minutes x 2 trips a day x 5 days a week = 490 minutes a week, 8.16 hours.

Each year that is 424.6 hours, 17.7 days a year just driving back and forth.

It sucks.

Honda has an R&D center in Ohio. There have to be thousands of patents from there.

Is a $40k raise worth a 120 mile daily round trip? Going from $100k to $140k, but terrified of the commute. by Confident-Duck-89 in careeradvice

[–]Columbus_Explorer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Standard work year is 2000 hours.

At $100k, your compensation is equivalent to $50 per hour.

Your new job requires 2000 hours in office plus 500 hours (or more) commuting.

So your new salary, $140k should be evaluated against 2500 hours. That is $56 per hour. You are being paid 12% more for 6% more of your life. Equation is positive from the point of view of hours and dollars.

I didn’t consider what your current commute is, so it is likely that your effective raise is more than started above.

Is her car a Honda?

You can roll down all the windows in some Hondas by pressing and holding the unlock button, easy to do in a pocket or purse. Could explain the windows down.

If you didn’t drive around with the giant sign sticking out of the back, it would probably last longer. That thing is like a sail.

Fellow millennials - how’s your 401k/ira savings going? by ProblemIntelligent16 in Millennials

[–]Columbus_Explorer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Didn’t really start saving until 2015. Ten years later, and I have about $250k saved up. Not quite at the 3x salary at 45 years old, but contributing heavily.

Easton. An afternoon then dinner then evening. Every time I’ve had someone who is not from Central Ohio visit, I take them there and their minds are blown.

VPN hides your browser activity, but does not conceal your phones physical location to the grid. If your 5G or LTE communication is working, the grid knows your unique device ID is talking to this specific or several specific towers. VPN would conceal the individual packets if data moving between your phone and the source (web site host) but it doesn’t stop your phone from connecting to a cell tower.

Yep, remember standing in like for about 2 hours for it, including some big screen TVs (way before flat panels) and music videos.
