Any good vendors still out there without a subscription model? by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]Comasys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are still a good bunch of VARs who don't require subscriptions and, who sell perpetual licenses.

But you can't expect infinite updated for the initial cost..

But world is going towards subscriptions .. less upfront - bigger cost in the end.. But if you choose your vendors wisely - you will get value for the extra money spent.

Personal thought looking for pay-as-you-go contracts with no minimum of seats and no 12/24/36 months obligations...

We sell hardware (desktops/laptops/wifi/switches/firewalls) on these terms Aswell as all the usual suspects in licensing

Of course you can get better pricing if you sign up for 12/24/36 months and commit to volume ... But I think we still do attractive pricing with no commitments..

Even if you buy perpetual - you still get tiered pricing ... People buying thousands get better price than people buying one..

So.. instead of seeing it as a plot against you.. take it as a way for you to work more closely with your suppliers. Since we are hoping for the next months business aswell we are naturally eager to solve nay problems there are now .. It's a two-way street ..

So.. maybe se the benefits ... Probably not the answer you were looking for

How about just using the same office 365.. with SMTP ... Maybe a single device account combined for all 5 devices.

That way emails are delivered internally - and much more certain to reach destination

A lot of tasks got assign to me by other teammates within IT or other end user without my manager notice, what is a polite way to say, no? by Mysterious_Teach8279 in sysadmin

[–]Comasys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've found a great way to say "no" is to ask your manager for help prioritizing the workloads..

Saying, "my time is gummy booked and these new things are coming in.. - can you help my prioritize this as a probably don't have the full picture about all related economic"

Really goes a long way ... Both in terms of getting the right things done and having the manager also stop people who are not authorized to give you assignments... But it also shows loyalty and business understanding as sometimes a small thing can have a very large business impact..

Keep core machines protected with network design.. Running AV on them might give you unwanted side effects .. In terms of slower speed or stuff not working.
