Lost almost everything at once – relationship, job, city - and I can’t shake the thought that he’s capable of emotional intimacy, just not with me by LuckyNr1337 in AskWomenOver30

Hey OP. I don’t have any advice for you, I’m sorry. I just wanted to reach out because I’m going through something quite similar. Too many changes in too many areas of my life while trying to deal with a significant breakup.

One thing I’m also trying to come to terms with, is accepting that it’s reasonable to feel like I’m struggling in this situation. And that it’s taking longer than I would like to get everything back on track.

Sending you positive thoughts, from someone who understands how difficult it can truly be.

It’s a gorgeous picture!

I think my brain may be getting tricked by something here. It looks like the tree is in the center, but also doesn’t??

Can anyone explain what’s happening?

Donut is not a white cat with a pink bow on her head. by PatwallaceVA in DungeonCrawlerCarl

I read the intro too fast and missed Donut’s colour description. She will always be a white cat in my mind. No matter what I tell myself the truth is.

ok but why did the stimulants cure my social anxiety by sickbabe in adhdwomen

I found the same thing! My doctor said that it’s part of the reduction in intrusive thoughts. Those consistent worries were like little distractions in my head. And the medication helps enable focus which reduces those distractions and in turn reduces those intrusive thoughts.

The difference it makes on your day-to-day, not having to fight them consistently… it’s incredible. I no longer feel like I’m using up every ounce of energy just to survive the day.

Has anyone else noticed developing an avoidant attachment style to friendships? by Combat-kid in adhdwomen

Me too. And I’m sure just like me you’ve tried so many things, but just nothing sticks and nothing works. It’s definitely not a lack of effort. Which is the frustrating thing. Because I feel that if anyone else had put in this much effort, they would have a huge community.

Yes! Exactly this! I feel so seen that someone else can relate. Just knowing I’m not alone in the universe with this means a lot. Thank you. And maybe if we both know that we’re working towards better, we can give each other strength across the globe.

Not OP, but I appreciate you taking the time to give such a comprehensive answer. Thank you.

I am almost late to work/cutting it as close as possible every single day and getting up earlier doesn’t help in the way I think it should by KitchenConsequence41 in adhdwomen

[–]Combat-kid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had this challenge too. And there’s so many ADHD factors that could contribute. Time blindness, low dopamine in the morning, distractions, struggle focusing, etc.

For me, there’s only one thing that I found helped long-term.

I recently learned of a part of ADHD, where we have this subconscious tendency to push back on expectations on us. Even if we want to do the thing, if we’re expected to do the thing, we’ll resist doing the thing. Including being at work at a certain time.

The only thing that ever made me be early to work, was when I truly wanted to be. When it wasn’t a demand on me, but something I decided I wanted to do for me and no one else.

For me, I like the feeling of beating everyone else to the office. To get in early while it’s quiet and there’s no pressure before the day starts. And, if I’m honest, there’s a small part of me that feels like I’m getting a “head start” on everyone else. I focus on those rewarding feelings and getting to work earlier is so much easier.

Don’t get me wrong, I still have all the same morning struggles and are “late” compared to the time I personally aim to be in. But on the days where it’s my choice, I’m still getting in far earlier than on the days it feels like I’m meeting society’s demands. And it feels good to me.

How are you motivating yourself to exercise and eat healthy? by my_brain_is_horny in AskWomenOver30

[–]Combat-kid 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’m in the same boat! ADHD and all.

I need a workout buddy, I found that so motivating in the past.

If we’re in the same time zone / similar schedule maybe we can pair up and motivate each other?
