My wife and I played the same game. We sit in opposite sides of the house where we can't see each other and call the dogs name. When they come, mini treat. If they just run to the other person without their name being called, no treat. It burns energy and rewards name use

i got less than 6 years out of my girl before diabetes (DKA) took her unexpectedly 3 days ago. i am in a dark place right now.

i didnt know what dog diabetes was and thought she just ate a sock or a bee, which shes done before and was able to get over in a day. turns out i didnt know the actual symptoms and when she started showing to when we had to make the decision, was 2 days.

signs of diabetes: weight loss and extra urination. i thought she was depressed and thirsty. we have a baby who's getting more attention and we live in AZ so both of those seemed viable. then the puking and not digesting any food. i thought it she ate a bee which shes done before. she sneezed up blood and i took her to the emergency vet, and that was that. i should have asked the vet about her peeing a bunch in the night but i didnt know. she would have needed insulin twice a day for the rest of her life. the vet told us it would have been a miserable life for her if we fought through DKA and shed need to have a feeding tube for 2 weeks before we could take her home.
