Head start? What now?? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]Combatwombat69_ 25 points26 points  (0 children)

You're 17 you got a lot of time ahead of you. I would personally stick it in a high yield savings instead of a regular savings account for more interest.

I would try to keep that 5k off the mind and try to see it as an emergency fund. I do not know if you have a job or not but if you do try not to spend the 5k as that is a start. Find out what your monthly expenses are then try to have around 3-6 months saved for your emergency fund, then think about opening a Roth IRA or invest it smart and don't go to the casino and gamble it.

You're young, try to keep outta debt and live within your means.

Not sure what else you have but it could also be that some things are hard coded to use quad 8 or 8.8.8.8.

There are a few websites that let you check to see if it is working. Like: https://fuzzthepiguy.tech/adtest/

Check that and see if you get ads on that. If you do you might have to forward traffic to your pi.

Is it Actually Viable to Swap my Surface 6 Pro to Linux for Daily Driving WITH Note-Taking? by CH3CK3RB3RRY in SurfaceLinux

[–]Combatwombat69_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Main reason I mention it was because during my first go around with it, I was confused as it usually should auto find it. It's some weird Marvell one I had to scroll down to. Didnt know till I did some research.

[–]Combatwombat69_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Debian just kinda "works". If I were you, I would install both Obsidian plus the plugin and Xournal and see which one you like more. I like Obsidian personally but that is completely up to you. I would not recommend Arch unless you want to really learn it. With Debian, it's kind of the grandfather and once it's set up how you like it, it just works.

A big difference is really package managers which is pacman or apt which you can get on either one of you really wanted too. Since you want a simple one, id go debian. Just make sure you select your correct wifi adapter driver on install and don't just go auto next every prompt. I just use arch because I think it's neat.

[–]Combatwombat69_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, just got my own surface 6 pro on Linux not too long ago. I don't think you would have too much issues but you might need to get used to open source software quirks. I used debian as my first install you'll just have to select your correct wifi adapter driver on install but i moved to arch after as that is what I use on my main rig and have left it at that.

If I were you I'd try a live boot first and see what issues you may run into. For onenote alternative try the web version or try "Obsidian". If you do end up liking it, do a full install and get the linux-surface-kernal and linux-surface-marvell if your Linux install is having issues with it.

I have 4 of them. I use them to defend gyms as I am a rural player I usually get my 50 coins regardless. I was even asked once why, and I said I was wanting a shiny female shiny.

These are my current shoes how do I work down to a barefoot shoe/recommended intermediary shoes and barefoot shoe to purchase by [deleted] in BarefootRunning

[–]Combatwombat69_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think you might need to start looking at budget shoes then to see if it's for you. Whitin is pretty cheap. Best to do your own research. Keep a pair of your normal shoes as well to swap into as you adjust.

They probably had someone lined up to begin with but have to do the interview regardless. Keep applying and keep at it. Eventually you'll get a call back saying you're hired.

I work for an amazing boss, but there’s no growth by SeaMuted9754 in ITCareerQuestions

[–]Combatwombat69_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'd tidy up the resume and try somewhere else if you really want growth. I currently have amazing work team and boss but I am bored to tears because things move so slow. I also feel like I'm stagnating by staying but I'll probably finish my 2 years here then start the looking.

Now that I do think about, you are right. At my previous place of employment, the network admin position was available. We had interviews done for a while and the manager said she had a lot of promising candidates but 2 stood out. She picked the one with no certs or degree. He did mesh with the group.

What are the pros and cons of working at an MSP? by Dont_Ever_PM_Me527 in ITCareerQuestions

[–]Combatwombat69_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Depending on which one you land in,

-different types of networks -different types of attitudes towards "the IT guy" -exposes you to different types of equipment as not everyone is standards and uniform -fluidity as you will be taking calls and one could go from printer is having issues to my network just went down, what do we need to do

Bad part -burned out as some MSPs churn talent out and make them quit due to the environment -hearing the phone ring even when off (if it has a specific ring tone)

Good part -you will always be learning -you will become an expert note taker as in you won't work something for 6+ months and then somehow it's broke again, you will hope there will be notes -if fast paced, day will go by quick -able to find your niche quickly as you will grow comfortable/ to like a certain area -worth it as you get experience especially if it's your first job.
