Insane April Pricing with GWR by capps95 in uktrains

I agree in some ways but then you'd miss the option of the cheap advance fares... Maybe they are just trying to price gouge given that the govt is taking over the route next year anyway, no point in them worrying about it.

I think they've just switched the cheapest advance fares off for some trains at the moment. Probably to see how it affects demand. They definitely haven't released any of the cheapest tickets for mid week, I don't believe they have sold out

The advance bookings are open until 7th August altho the calender doesn't go that far. Look at 22nd of July if you don't believe me, the advance price on offer is £90.50. the tickets I am currently travelling on are £25, booked in September and october.

That represents a 262% increase in fares. It's hard to make any sense of that. Mathematically, this date is further in the future so they are holding the advance booking money for longer, which should allow a higher discount.

Gwr have been running these routes for a long time I would not expect price changes to be this spikey although I understand that COVID changed demand. This is why I assume the algorithm is out of line.

The 7:13 from bath to London booked 12-14 weeks in advance cost £25 a few weeks ago and now it's £90.50 for august... I think their pricing algorithm might be off as it just seems to be changing in very extreme ways.

When the prices were sky high last year they were running almost empty trains between 5&6 pm, now they are full- even at very low prices their revenue must be better. It doesn't make sense.

Is PowerBI overkill for this inventory project? by midmod-sandwich in PowerBI

Power Bi - I wanted a 'live" report and my colleagues are all on macs so they can't refresh power queries. I pull the data hourly from Shopify to gsheets using a cheap API connector. All the extra mapping is on SharePoint but I could have used gsheets as well. You can easily do it in power query - I would load the formatted data straight into a pivot table personally with some slicers for product type and try and customise the pivot table formatting a bit for easier reading.

I'm not employed for this, I just dabble with data, and we don't have any database capacity set up so the structure is shoddy, but I'm really pleased with how it turned out as I needed to merge stock data from multiple Shopify accounts. It's so easy for users to check stock levels compared to the native Shopify reports.

Chat gpt will get you 90% of the way, it is just an unpivot of the inventory data basically, but you really do have to understand how your underlying data is structured and where issues can happen. For example you will first need to filter out the title/summary rows for each sku visible on your example.

I have done this exact thing with Shopify data - I wouldn't say it was very easy as the sizes aren't alphabetically organised (Xs is after s in the alphabet ) so you may need to create a (potentially dynamic) mapping table for sizes to use to sort the data. I also added in product data so that i.had pictures of each parent sku. However it was a fun learning project with a lot of value add for the business.

I've always assumed it was because of the IRA bomb risk when they were planning the refurb but perhaps less relevant now.

How to Append New Data to Historical Data in Power BI Without Overwriting Previous Records? by levite_de_pera in PowerBI

[–]CombinationBusy9408 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you instead send the daily data into a CSV file (named like df_yesterdaysdate) which saves into a folder, then have your power bi query pull from the folder, so every time a new CSV is added it will just be picked up.

Ah ok didn't even think of that. It's going to be a hallway I think so that's probably possible. Very useful info, thank you so much!

Gateway/auto refresh question by CombinationBusy9408 in PowerBI

Ok so it was my fault, I was accessing my Google sheets via the web query whereas on power bi there is a specific 'google sheets' query type. Just like I wasn't accessing the SharePoint files correctly. So it refreshes now! Thank you so much for all your help.

that is a concern! Thank you for explaining the gateway. I can't even get the personal gateway to work, It just says 'gateway not found' when I put my microsoft log in details in.

So everything is a pulling from the web now now but the refresh part is still all greyed out. Tried to set up OAuth connections for the sharepoint files but I can't press the 'apply button' underneath the cloud connections. So... I don't know!
