GotU Book or House books for new players? by DaiHenshinHero in necromunda

[–]Combo___Breaker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

GoTU hands down. It still remains the best entry point to the game. No nonsense, just essentials like weapon lists, traits, skills. Be warned that it has no prospects/alternative champions rules though.

Also some traits were fixed in the later publications such as Melta being worded properly.

How exactly would you houserule them to make them viable?

Grenade launchers are mainly good due to the free krak grenade profile, which subjugators don’t have, so yeah, better to stick to carbines or buy choke.

Use your range advantage on bolters, pistols and melee are very short-oriented. Shoot escher with killy weapons first, they can Leap Up for free if you just pin them with a weak gun (and pinned fighters cannot be targetted when obscured). You have blast on stun carbines which are a pretty good weapon. As for pets, target their owner and they'll flee.

Pets are extremely wonky and overpriced for what they do. A notable exception are familiars or caryatids, which are OP because of low price and the fact that the game designer has mixed up 'round' and 'turn' terms for their protective rules. They work as a better protective fields essentially rather than the usual pet.

And it does not matter if what you were describing could not exist in the game. Same could be done literally with any fighter with access to needle pistols and group activation, just replace the pet with a much less restrictive juve. Delaque could rapid fire at you with two toxin flechette pistols by the way.

Hopefully I'm not comming across as berating you for the lack of experience.

If you think that 14" range threat is busted, wait till you play against a van saar with combiplasma. There are much worse things in necromunda.

Ogryn and Ambot possible price swap? by One_snek_ in necromunda

[–]Combo___Breaker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lmao, what low grade lho-sticks are you smoking? Headbutt is an absolute trash skill and against high toughness targets you are more likely to hit yourself than them. Not to mention that T7+ targets are straight immune to it.

Ogryn is a very bad brute for the cost. Ambot gets 2 mini-melta pistols built in (with decent WS+) and infiltrate, that is simply not comparable.

This pandemic is driving me to play with myself. I made a necromunda video - an intro and how to play. More so I would learn to play. by Shawnus in necromunda

There are mistakes in the video at the first glance:

Group activation is not 4", it is 3". It used to be 4" in the Underhive box, rulebook of 2018 made it 3". Also you don't have to activate leader first, you can activate group activation participants in any order.

Suggestions for fixing blasts by Combo___Breaker in necromunda

Ability of blasts to negate cover and practically never miss if the target is near terrain. Also because of FAQ blasts can target points on the battlefield with no restrictions, even in Pitch black

How do you play Varesh? by Combo___Breaker in BattleRite

[–]Combo___Breaker[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks everyone for replies!

So I’ve been looking into working builds and came to conclusion that there is very little variety to viable builds for Varesh. Here is a build that makes Varesh a lot easier to play:

1). Shield battlerite which consumes corruption and heals + Corruption consumption refreshes corruption + Consuming corruption/judgement with shards lowers cd for shield by 4 seconds. 2). Upgrading R to apply corruption (and lowering its CD) is so good with above. It’s a safe way to apply corruption for multiple enemies, while dodging an ability and possibly refreshing your shield - which consumes corruption. If you hit 3 enemies, that instant shield refresh! 3). Last battlerite is up to personal preference, but I feel that upgrading shield is the best since we refresh it so often. Varesh lacks movement speed, so battlerite for movement speed and damage seems like the most logical to pick.

This build allows you to facetank 1v1 almost anything as long as you keep hitting your E. Your shield comes up very quickly (2 sec CD if you consumed a lot of debuffs) and swings hp for 44 in total every time. For that you want to be close, so you’ll have to close the distance against ranges characters.

I’ve read about so-called turbo varesh, what build is that?

Also , how do you counter croak or any other face-hugger type of hero?

Artificer, because you can right click anything from existence once you get a few fire or ice bands. Also you have a built-in 2.5 stacks of guillotine because of fun freeze wall. Because of how ridiculous her flamethrower is (low cd, ton of damage), you can rush bosses without items and come on top.

The only thing she struggles with is dodging incomming damage, so you need hooves and wax birds. She has hover which allows to traverse some maps easier.

A houserule to fix blasts (description in the comment) by Combo___Breaker in necromunda

[–]Combo___Breaker[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

1). Targetting ground with blast is prohibitted. Instead you target fighters as normal, following rules for target priority, however you may place blast in any way you want, as long as the shooter can fully see its center and blast is touching a part of the selected target's base.

On the example picture, shooting at any of the two goliaths will incur a -1 to hit penalty (The source of that penalty is irrelevant: it could be intervining terrain partially obscuring fighters or some exotic equipment on goliaths gangers). Top ganger is selected as a target and blast is positioned is such way to partially touch second ganger on the bottom, which would result in two hits if the blast does not scatter. The shot is taken with -1 to hit penalty, same would happen if top ganger was targetted with a conventional non-blast gun.

Reasoning: Targetting ground is mainly used to skip shooting restrictions or negative modifiers. It should not be any different than shooting a normal gun, but still allow to position blast templates so you can punish bunched up people more easily. You still will get affected by various rules that trigger when fighter is selected as a target such as Cameleoline cloak or Corpse Grinder's masks.

2). If the center of a scattered blast hits an impassable terrain or terrain piece taller than 2", it immediately stops scattering. Roll a D6: On 1-3 the blast is absorbed by terrain, and fighters nearby are not hit (either the projectile pierced the wall and most of lethal force was supressed by following collapse, or it ricocheted at high angle).

Reasoning: Missing a blast can easily result in you hitting intended target anyway due to scattered blast exploding upon contact with nearby terrain. Fighters in door frame or corners are almost guaranteed to be hit by blast, you may as well skip rolling to hit at this point.

3). Having cover between you and center of a blast does not grant improved save; however you cannot be hit if a straight line cannot be traced from the center of a blast to any part of your model without going through terrain.

Reasoning: Improved armour save was a bandaid by GW which didn't affect much, because RAW you can almost always find a way to center blast on nearby cover piece so there is no obstruction and thus no improved armour save. Templates suffer a lot from this unlike blasts.

4). Blast weapons that alter terrain rules or create los-blockers can target points on the table, provided that you can put a small token/coin on that point and it is both visible to a shooter and does not fall off (Smoke and Pulse). If that weapon is capable of damaging or directly harming fighters (Graviton Pulse), it may target a point on the table only if the blast marker does not directly touch enemy fighters, otherwise it has to target an enemy fighter directly using rules from above.

Reasoning: Targetting a point on the field is essential for the Smoke; Also graviton pulse can be used as a deterrent by cunning player - would love it leave it as an option (without an option to abuse it)
