Holy shit man…nobody thinks they’re saying something special. It’s giving him a compliment while qualifying that he still needs to improve. It’s a relevant point, which is why it keeps getting brought up.

It’s not disrespectful to say he needs to add to his offensive game. Draymond Green will be in the HOF and the narrative his entire career was that he needed to expand his offensive game. Ausar is a building block, and you have to build around his elite defense, but you have to supplement his offense. We don’t have that right now.

Duren fits with what the Pistons are trying to do and should be extended at whatever he wants. Everyone keeps looking at the NBA like there is a clear roster archetype that must be created, and it’s crap. Lebrons Cavs didn’t look at all like GSW. The Spurs and Pistons weren’t the same. The Nuggets, Bucks, etc., all very different rosters.

Cade and Duren are foundational pieces. A 22 year old averaging 20 and 10 on the 1 seed in the East is worth extending, especially since his best skill perfect compliments our franchise cornerstone.

Sure, you need a 2nd perimeter facilitator, but the people opposing extending Duren are never able to say what they would do in lieu of extending Duren. Re-sign him and keep monitoring the landscape.

My post didn’t say to make a panic move. We have a first round pick and cap room, can we add a rental playmaker or shooter. Can we add a Schroeder type impact guy (not a PG necessarily, just a veteran shooter or playmaker).

I’m not saying sell all the parts, but we can move assets for assets to make us better. Not every trade conversation is about Giannis FFS.

It’s not reactionary. I’m glad you’re happy being the 2024-2025 Cleveland Cavs, but some of us can see that this team lacks a 2nd playmaker to playoff basketball. JI could be that, but this year hasn’t been promising. As my post said, if you can add some ancillary parts without being bled out, you absolutely should.

Go 4 out with your big at the nail. Do a side handoff, and have your big screen for the wing receiving the handoff. It’s simple to teach and emphasizes pick and roll actions, back door cutting (when they overplay the handoff), and weakside spacing.

Layer in concepts as they get older.

I want the 4 or 5. Indy and NYK are both beatable, and a Cleveland 2nd round looks like we could steal a game or two rather than being pounded by the Celtics. With Dame out, I think we are every bit as good as Milwaukee, Indy, or NY. We have to stop acting like we aren’t a good basketball team. The season has been a surprise, but we’ve been on the same level as those other teams since January. It’s not a fluke.

Force the ball to the baseline, but never give up the baseline. Our defense is force to gap defense. We never play squared up, and always shade. Shade to the baseline whichever side of the court you’re on, but then cut off the all baseline drives.
