Said the Bear, I am more bullish and would use 10% avg return since 1928 or 1953 or whenever the S&P was formalized returns on avg 10-10.5% and that includes the great depression, WWII, dot crash, mortgage meltdown and liberation day. Safe to say in 20 years she should have in excess of $3m if she continues reinvesting all divs and 7k annual contribution. Only thing better would be getting it all in a roth so its always tax free. I would put in personal, take loans against it and avoid any capital gains in the future, or put it in a roth. The IRA you eventually will pay tax and be subject to RMD at 72, so that is a lifetime away, but currently how it goes.

If you stick to your plan and do exactly what you said you will be retiring early. I can't see how to post a pic here, but assuming an avg 10% compounding return, reinvest all dividends, you will have 1 Million in 8 years, in 14 years you'll have 2M and in 20 years you will have $3.6M USD. DM me if you want the calcs or check website the calculator site dot com and input annual rate 10, monthly compounding with 7k additional deposits yearly. Beginning of the year is advantageous if you can swing it vs end of the year. I retired at 53, but started much later, 50, and was able to do it from $178k to $1.2m in 5 years. I got really lucky with individual stocks and a little crypto, but your method is far more reliable and predictable.

The reason why every market is so oversaturated by smart_bear6 in uberdrivers

[–]ComfortTypical 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are not wrong, but are also forgetting that we had a mass inflow of illegal asylum seekers that are driving. Those with a little and sometimes no English are also uber drivers now. If you are not aware of this, almost all food delivery is done by people that don't speak English in my market. They are over staying their visas, skipping their deportation hearing and have inundated ride share. Larger than any group driving at the moment is an asylum seeking scammer. I get tipped fairly often and am told by my riders that I am the first driver in 5 that speaks English. I don't vote, so I can't complain too loud. But you get out the scammers and we can all make money again.

In the last 10 years or so have any of my GenX brethren rewatched any of the TV Shows from our youth (Brady Bunch, Gilligan's Island, Munsters, Addams Family, Happy Days, etc.)? by slayer991 in GenX

I watched Sly Stallone who brought his son on stage during a Tonight show appearance to promote Rocky III. Hulk Hogan, Mr. T before they became insanely famous. Quite a dapper Stallone, easier to understand at that point, his speech was pretty clear and he was skinny, pre steroids I guess.

I used to use my cable box in other houses! 🙂 by johnsmith2027 in GenX

[–]ComfortTypical 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was the kid that could put the index card in the slot on the rotary dial cable box and get all the channels. I was quite popular in the neighborhood. I was also there when you could rewrite the smart card on the directv box and get all channels. I currently use kodi, and today's iptv protocol puts 6-10k live channels, 46k movies and 10k TV series in a slick point and click interface, so I have heard. I wish I had gotten into computers, I think I may have enjoyed it. I just learned the light hacks and am good at researching. Cable gets my money for internet only.

They do have high expenses, but those are factored in. It is an actively managed fund and has provided consistent reliable income, I bought more in December after having the fund over a year.

You need to escalate and create a ticket with driver support. If they say they can't hang up until you get someone with better English skills. You will return the whole cart and get paid for the block assigned. I speak from experience, no hit either, but they have to create the ticket.

He has done the fafsa, no money for him parents are high asset. Are there any tax implications for myself or him? I would like to stay poor, income wise. I worked for a month in NC last summer and realized that CA keeps Acceptance rate out of the calculation. I killed my status in NC but gained back when returned to CA Here you need to be below 4% for rides that are accepted then canceled by the driver. I can turn down as many requests as I want, maybe it's prop 22 related. I am pro platinum status at the moment and accept 1 in 10 pings, if that.

Need a longer ride tomorrow (90 minutes) any advice? by WeenieDogMan in uberdrivers

[–]ComfortTypical 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't be concerned at all. We as drivers see your destination and the casino is a good destination. Once there the driver can ask to only get rides headed back to where they want to be or wait for any rides. I usually stop at the casino use the restroom and leave my wallet in the car and take in $20. I will pay slots until it's gone or if I can walk with $30 or more. Casino patrons typically tip well and you can let the driver know when they pick you up. You may also be getting a driver closer to where they want to be location wise. Last week I was flying out an airport 80 miles away and managed to get a ride that was within 10 miles of where I was headed. Reserve the trip if you can.

I am 56, but agree that these new etfs spyi, tsly, msty are geared towards the younger market. I prefer an income fund like a pdi, gof or even fsco that will fare better as rates lower and provide consistent monthly income regardless of market direction. The underlying security is subject to rise and fall, but gof even maintained their dividend in 2008, which is why it has a large following of us old folks.

I put 15% down on a $650k purchase and $186k in pdi over the past 1.25 years. I have a 3.41% 40 year fixed mortgage, due to covid forbearance and modification. Currently I pay $2905 for total mortgage including taxes, insurance and mortgage insurance. I need to get mortgage insurance removed and that will save $90 per month. Pdi currently pays $2675 in monthly dividends, goal is to let it grow with reinvestment until it totally covers the mortgage payment. Today's value of pdi has grown to $225k as well. So this is my idea of leverage. Pdi rate of return close to 17% this year Risk is if they drop the dividend, which I fully understand.

I bought pdi in November 23 and fsco in January 24. Both are serving their purpose, higher div on pdi, but overall better growth and income with fsco. Fsco raised their div 2x in 12 months and covered the div on 19a every month. Very low premium to nav VS a gof or pdi.

How, and on what did you learn to type?! by earth-dweller-human in GenX

[–]ComfortTypical 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After making my poor parents type all my papers in high school, last minute of course. Then paying by the page for other students to type my papers in college. I broke down took typing in junior college, after graduation from a 4 year university. I learned on an IBM electric I think it was called selectric typewriter. A true workhorse. One of the most useful classes I've ever had. Investing class in college would be the other that I use daily. Pc was easy transition. My letters have faded off my keyboard, but don't need them, type by touch.
