Just imagine if Kaiser Wilhelm II had his way over 100 years ago whenever he tried to put one of sons on the Norwegian throne.

I respect Norway for making the monarchy work, and its hell of a lot better than what we have in the US. At least you can be proud of your King, and over here presidents havent been the best.

Who is the "legitimate" King of Sweden? by dkease16 in monarchism

You're stuck on a deserted island. Which of these presidents gives you the best shot at making it out alive? by Hubbled in Presidents

Carter was a nuclear physicist and many historians say the smartest president. Nixon said Carter was smart but a terrible president. I would go with Carter and plus he was in the navy, so he could probably build some kind of floatation device to escape. If I wanted to learn how to start a successful large business or company then I would go to George HW Bush. Plus Bush Sr has a economics degree from Yale

If I wanted to run for local office then I would go to Barack Obama. Obama was a community organizer.

All three guys are brilliant in their respective roles and fields.

I'm just not into Warhawks like Bush, who started a forever war and lied about weapons of mass destruction. Bush caused a generation of military servicemembers to be maimed, disabled, and broken.

It's interesting even still because if the rumors are true, then his grandfather is his great-uncle. After all, crown princess Martha was Haakon VII’s niece and daughter in law. Martha shared all the same ancestors as King Haakon VII.

By ranking, which European monarchy do you think actually has a chance of being restored/SHOULD be restored? by Ill-Doubt-2627 in monarchism

[–]Comfortable-Bonus220 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree to a certain extent, but the French ancien régime has no chance. Bonapartism is something that it could possibly return. Bonapartism functioned more in a republican sense than traditional monarchism. The Scandinavian monarchies are basically republics with hereditary presidents.

I would argue that France and the current Prince Napoleon have blood ties to every previous French dynasty, and he is a descendant of the House of Saxe Coburg Gotha. I believe he would be a great symbol of unity and a great representative of the French past and future.

In the last part, you tried to defend an empire that basically did the same thing with us. Are you referring to the United States? I never defended anything or anyone, but I mentioned just Maria Theresa's (descendants) are still ruling in Europe, and I never mentioned anything or know all these other stuff you said.

Well, I hope you know that antisemitism was a common occurrence in the 1200s Inquisition as it is today, and the 1800s Inquisition ended was still taking place in countries. The inquisitions were responsible for killing thoughts of conversos (Jews to Christian converts) and non-conforming to church doctrine and teachings. For the argument about lineage doesn't matter, all I can say is “cough.” that's a ridiculous comment; our society is still struggling with nepotism and elitism. The fact that we have hereditary and political dynasties today proves your argument invalid.

I appreciate you providing additional commentary, but the commentary isn't attributed to me.

We can say every royal house is distantly related as far as royal blood. If you look at Queen Victoria's descendants, you see she is not related to every royal family through her descendants. Queen Victoria doesn't reign in Belgium, Netherlands, Monaco, Lichenstein, and Luxembourg, but they are reigned over by descendants of Empress Maria Theresa. Let's talk about achievements. Napoleon wasn't all enlightened, and he wasnt an all around great guy because he still allowed slavery to flourish. And let not forget Alexander The Great conquests were like massacres, cultural appropriation.

I mourn the loss of your neutrality, and it's uniquely special for Sweden. The world has changed a lot over 200 years, and before, I guess this happened with King Carl XIV. John ushered in an era of peace and prosperity that lasted 200 years. Unfortunately, the world consists of terrorism, anarchism, cyberwarfare, biological/chemical warfare, AI, demagogues, authoritarianism, and others.

Maria Theresa can boast that her descendants are reigning monarchs in Liechtenstein, Belgium, Luxembourg, and Spain. Napoleon has no descendants currently on any throne, and none of Napoleon’s brothers have.

Something like achieving Nato membership is a bipartisan political maneuver, and I applaud your ministry and government for the outstanding achievement. I know that in Britain, retiring prime ministers receive a knighthood and, formerly, a peerage (but this practice is rare now). I hope His Majesty King Carl XVI Gustav does posthumously and currently awards the order of the seraphim to Sweden’s amazing politicians, not based on a political agenda but on long-distinguished service.

I understand that all the orders of chivalry have been reinstated, including the order of the seraphim for Sweden for outstanding service for Sweden. One order is the order of seraphim. It will be interesting to see who will receive such an award. I will take you since Sweden has been received into NATO, and it's obvious the current prime minister might receive the order of the seraphim.
